Riccati nonhermiticity with application to the Morse potential
A supersymmetric one-dimensional matrix procedure similar to relationships of
the same type between Dirac and Schrodinger equations in particle physics is
described at the general level. By this means we are able to introduce a
nonhermitic Hamiltonian having the imaginary part proportional to the solution
of a Riccati equation of the Witten type. The procedure is applied to the
exactly solvable Morse potential introducing in this way the corresponding
nonhermitic Morse problem. A possible application is to molecular diffraction
in evanescent waves over nanostructured surfacesComment: 8 pages, 4 figure
Classical harmonic oscillator with Dirac-like parameters and possible applications
We obtain a class of parametric oscillation modes that we call K-modes with
damping and absorption that are connected to the classical harmonic oscillator
modes through the "supersymmetric" one-dimensional matrix procedure similar to
relationships of the same type between Dirac and Schroedinger equations in
particle physics. When a single coupling parameter, denoted by K, is used, it
characterizes both the damping and the dissipative features of these modes.
Generalizations to several K parameters are also possible and lead to
analytical results. If the problem is passed to the physical optics (and/or
acoustics) context by switching from the oscillator equation to the
corresponding Helmholtz equation, one may hope to detect the K-modes as

Hydrophobic cis-platinum complexes efficiently incorporated into liposomes
The present invention involves the synthesis and use of new platinum compounds. These new platinum compounds are easy to encapsulate in liposomes at high efficiencies. They are further characterized as platinum (II) four coordinate complex having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are carboxylato monoanions bearing a hydrophobic radical function or a single carboxylato dianion bearing a hydrophobic radical function and R.sub.3 is a vicinal diaminoalkane or vicinal diaminocycloalkane. The complex is substantially soluble in methanol or chloroform and substantially insoluble in water. Said complex may be incorporated into phospholipid liposomes. Near-Field Radio Holography of Large Reflector Antennas
We summarise the mathematical foundation of the holographic method of
measuring the reflector profile of an antenna or radio telescope. In
particular, we treat the case, where the signal source is located at a finite
distance from the antenna under test, necessitating the inclusion of the
so-called Fresnel field terms in the radiation integrals. We assume a ``full
phase'' system with reference receiver to provide the reference phase. We
describe in some detail the hardware and software implementation of the system
used for the holographic measurement of the 12m ALMA prototype submillimeter
antennas. We include a description of the practicalities of a measurement and
surface setting. The results for both the VertexRSI and AEC
(Alcatel-EIE-Consortium) prototype ALMA antennas are presented.Comment: 14 pages, 14 figures, to appear in IEEE Antennas and Propagation

MECHANISTIC STUDY OF A RUTHENIUM HYDRIDE COMPLEX OF TYPE [RuH(CO)(N-N)(PR3)2]+ AS CATALYST PRECURSOR FOR THE HYDROFORMYLATION REACTION OF 1-HEXENE
Indexación: Web of Science; Scopus; Scielo.The catalytic activity of systems of type [RuH(CO)(N-N)(PR3)(2)](+) was evaluated in the hydroformylation reaction of 1-hexene. The observed activity is explained through a reaction mechanism on the basis of the quantum theory. The mechanism included total energy calculations for each of the intermediaries of the elemental steps considered in the catalytic cycle. The deactivation of the catalyst precursors takes place via dissociation of the polypyridine ligand and the subsequent formation of thermodynamically stable species, such as RuH(CO)(3)(PPh3)(2) and RuH3(CO)(PPh3)(2), which interrupt the catalytic cycle. In addition, the theoretical study allows to explain the observed regioselectivity which is defined in two steps: (a) the hydride migration reaction with an anti-Markovnikov orientation to produce the alkyl-linear-complex (3.1a), which is more stable by 19.4 kJ/mol than the Markovnikov orientation (alkyl-branched-complex) (3.1b); (b) the carbon monoxide insertion step generates the carbonyl alkyl-linear specie (4.1a) which is more stable by 9.5 kJ/mol than the alternative species (4.1b), determining the preferred formation of heptanal in the hydroformylation of 1-hexene.

Evaluation of a Local Fault Detection Algorithm for HVDC Systems
A great increase in the amount of energy generated from clean and renewable sources integrated in the electric power system is expected worldwide in the coming years. High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) systems are seen as a promising alternative to the traditional Alternating Current (AC) systems for the expansion of the electric power system. However, to achieve this vision, there are some remaining challenges regarding HVDC systems which need to be solved. One of the main challenges is related to fault detection and location in HVDC grids. This paper reviews the main protection algorithms available and presents the evaluation of a local fault detection algorithm for DC faults in a multi-terminal Voltage Source Conversion (VSC) based HVDC grid. Building C(sp(3)) Molecular Complexity on 2,2 '-Bipyridine and 1,10-Phenanthroline in Rhenium Tricarbonyl Complexes
The reactions of [Re(N-N)(CO)(3)(PMe3)]OTf (N-N=2,2 '-bipyridine, bipy; 1,10-phenanthroline, phen) compounds with tBuLi and with LiHBEt3 have been explored. Addition to the N-N chelate took place with different site-selectivity depending on both chelate and nucleophile. Thus, with tBuLi, an unprecedented addition to C5 of bipy, a regiochemistry not accessible for free bipy, was obtained, whereas coordinated phen underwent tBuLi addition to C2 and C4. Remarkably, when LiHBEt3 reacted with [Re(bipy)(CO)(3)(PMe3)]OTf, hydride addition to the 4 and 6 positions of bipy triggered an intermolecular cyclodimerization of two dearomatized pyridyl rings. In contrast, hydride addition to the phen analog resulted in partial reduction of one pyridine ring. The resulting neutral Re-I products showed a varied reactivity with HOTf and with MeOTf to yield cationic complexes. These strategies rendered access to Re-I complexes containing bipy- and phen-derived chelates with several C(sp(3)) centers
High spatial resolution and high contrast optical speckle imaging with FASTCAM at the ORM
In this paper, we present an original observational approach, which combines,
for the first time, traditional speckle imaging with image post-processing to
obtain in the optical domain diffraction-limited images with high contrast
(1e-5) within 0.5 to 2 arcseconds around a bright star. The post-processing
step is based on wavelet filtering an has analogy with edge enhancement and
high-pass filtering. Our I-band on-sky results with the 2.5-m Nordic Telescope
(NOT) and the lucky imaging instrument FASTCAM show that we are able to detect
L-type brown dwarf companions around a solar-type star with a contrast DI~12 at
2" and with no use of any coronographic capability, which greatly simplifies
the instrumental and hardware approach. This object has been detected from the
ground in J and H bands so far only with AO-assisted 8-10 m class telescopes
(Gemini, Keck), although more recently detected with small-class telescopes in
the K band. Discussing the advantage and disadvantage of the optical regime for
the detection of faint intrinsic fluxes close to bright stars, we develop some
perspectives for other fields, including the study of dense cores in globular
clusters. To the best of our knowledge this is the first time that high

Biogas applications based on the production of energy from renewable resources have emerged in the past years due to several countries setting quotas for bioenergy thus promoting anaerobic digestion for heat and electricity generation. Maize is one of the most common substrates for biogas production based on energy crops because of the high yields per hectare with ensiling as the preferred method for storage.
