We demonstrated the subangstrom precise correction of surface nanoscale axial photonics (SNAP) micro-resonators by the femtosecond (fs) laser postprocessing technique for the first time. The internal stress can be induced by fs laser inscriptions in the fiber, causing nanoscale effective radius variation (ERV). However, the obtained ultraprecise fabrication usually undergoes multiple tries. Here, we propose a novel postprocessing technique based on the fs laser that significantly reduces the ERV errors and improves the fabrication precision without iterative corrections. The postexposure process is achieved at the original exposure locations using lower pulse energy than that in the initial fabrication process. The results show that the ERV is nearly proportional to the pulse energy of the postexposure process. The slope of the ERV versus the pulse energy is 0.07 Ã…/nJ. The maximum of the postprocessed ERV can reach 8.0 Ã…. The repeatability was experimentally verified by accomplishing the correction on three SNAP microresonators with the precision of 0.75 Ã…. The developed fabrication technique with fs laser enables SNAP microresonators with new breakthrough applications for optomechanics and filters

Reducing electronic transport dimension to topological hinge states by increasing geometry size of Dirac semimetal Josephson junctions

The notion of topological phases has been extended to higher-order and has been generalized to different dimensions. As a paradigm, Cd3As2 is predicted to be a higher-order topological semimetal, possessing three-dimensional (3D) bulk Dirac fermions, two-dimensional (2D) Fermi arcs, and one-dimensional (1D) hinge states. These topological states have different characteristic length scales in electronic transport, allowing to distinguish their properties when changing sample size. Here, we report an anomalous dimensional reduction of supercurrent transport by increasing the size of Dirac semimetal Cd3As2-based Josephson junctions. An evolution of the supercurrent quantum interferences from a standard Fraunhofer pattern to a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID)-like one is observed when the junction channel length is increased. The SQUID-like interference pattern indicates the supercurrent flowing through the 1D hinges. The identification of 1D hinge states should be valuable for deeper understanding the higher-order topological phase in a 3D Dirac semimetal

Assessment of the feasibility and coverage of a modified universal hearing screening protocol for use with newborn babies of migrant workers in Beijing

BACKGROUND: Although migrant workers account for the majority of newborns in Beijing, their children are less likely to undergo appropriate universal newborn hearing screening/rescreening (UNHS) than newborns of local non-migrant residents. We hypothesised that this was at least in part due to the inadequacy of the UNHS protocol currently employed for newborn babies, and therefore aimed to modify the protocol to specifically reflect the needs of the migrant population. METHODS: A total of 10,983 healthy babies born to migrant mothers between January 2007 and December 2009 at a Beijing public hospital were investigated for hearing abnormalities according to a modified UNHS protocol. This incorporated two additional/optional otoacoustic emissions (OAE) tests at 24–48 hours and 2 months after birth. Infants not passing a screening test were referred to the next test, until any hearing loss was confirmed by the auditory brainstem response (ABR) test. RESULTS: A total of 98.91% (10983/11104) of all newborn children underwent the initial OAE test, of which 27.22% (2990/10983) failed the test. 1712 of the failed babies underwent the second inpatient OAE test, with739 failing again; thus significantly decreasing the overall positive rate for abnormal hearing from 27.22% to 18.36% ([2990–973 /10983)]; p = 0). Overall, 1147(56.87%) babies underwent the outpatient OAE test again after1-month, of whom 228 failed and were referred for the second outpatient OAE test (i.e. 2.08% (228/10983) referral rate at 1month of age). 141 of these infants underwent the referral test, of whom 103 (73.05%) tested positive again and were referred for a final ABR test for hearing loss (i.e. final referral rate of 1.73% ([228-38/10983] at 2 months of age). Only 54 infants attended the ABR test and 35 (0.32% of the original cohort tested) were diagnosed with abnormal hearing. CONCLUSIONS: Our study shows that it is feasible and practical to achieve high coverage rates for screening hearing loss and decrease the referral rates in newborn babies of migrant workers, using a modification of the currently employed UNHS protocol

A Semi-supervised Graph Attentive Network for Financial Fraud Detection

With the rapid growth of financial services, fraud detection has been a very important problem to guarantee a healthy environment for both users and providers. Conventional solutions for fraud detection mainly use some rule-based methods or distract some features manually to perform prediction. However, in financial services, users have rich interactions and they themselves always show multifaceted information. These data form a large multiview network, which is not fully exploited by conventional methods. Additionally, among the network, only very few of the users are labelled, which also poses a great challenge for only utilizing labeled data to achieve a satisfied performance on fraud detection. To address the problem, we expand the labeled data through their social relations to get the unlabeled data and propose a semi-supervised attentive graph neural network, namedSemiGNN to utilize the multi-view labeled and unlabeled data for fraud detection. Moreover, we propose a hierarchical attention mechanism to better correlate different neighbors and different views. Simultaneously, the attention mechanism can make the model interpretable and tell what are the important factors for the fraud and why the users are predicted as fraud. Experimentally, we conduct the prediction task on the users of Alipay, one of the largest third-party online and offline cashless payment platform serving more than 4 hundreds of million users in China. By utilizing the social relations and the user attributes, our method can achieve a better accuracy compared with the state-of-the-art methods on two tasks. Moreover, the interpretable results also give interesting intuitions regarding the tasks.Comment: icd

High speed self-testing quantum random number generation without detection loophole

Quantum mechanics provides means of generating genuine randomness that is impossible with deterministic classical processes. Remarkably, the unpredictability of randomness can be certified in a self-testing manner that is independent of implementation devices. Here, we present an experimental demonstration of self-testing quantum random number generation based on an detection-loophole free Bell test with entangled photons. In the randomness analysis, without the assumption of independent identical distribution, we consider the worst case scenario that the adversary launches the most powerful attacks against quantum adversary. After considering statistical fluctuations and applying an 80 Gb ×\times 45.6 Mb Toeplitz matrix hashing, we achieve a final random bit rate of 114 bits/s, with a failure probability less than 10−510^{-5}. Such self-testing random number generators mark a critical step towards realistic applications in cryptography and fundamental physics tests.Comment: 34 pages, 10 figure

    Simulation of CSST’s astrometric capability

    Get PDF
Introduction: The China Space Station Telescope (CSST) will enter a low Earth orbit around 2024 and operate for 10 years, with seven of those years devoted to surveying the area of the median-to-high Galactic latitude and median-to-high Ecliptic latitude of the sky. To maximize the scientific output of CSST, it is important to optimize the survey schedule. We aim to evaluate the astrometric capability of CSST for a given survey schedule and to provide independent suggestions for the optimization of the survey strategy. Methods: We first construct the astrometric model and then conduct simulated observations based on the given survey schedule. The astrometric solution is obtained by analyzing the simulated observation data. And then we evaluate the astrometric capability of CSST by analyzing the properties of the astrometric solution. Results: The accuracy of parallax and proper motion of CSST is better than 1 mas (⋅ yr−1) for the sources of 18–22 mag in g band, and about 1∼10 mas (⋅ yr−1) for the sources of 22–26 mag in g band, respectively. The results from real survey could be worse since the assumptions are optimistic and simple.Discussion: Optimizing the survey schedule can improve the astrometric accuracy of CSST. In the future, we will improve the astrometric capability of CSST by continuously iterating and optimizing the survey schedule

Abstract The study on soft-sediment deformation structures (SSDS) of Lingshan Island has been one of the hot topics of sedimentology researches in China in recent years, and SSDS developed in turbidite system in the Laiyang Group are widely known by domestic researchers. However, few studies were conducted on the SSDS in fan delta system in the Qingshan Group, Lingshan Island. This study analyzes the classification and characteristics of SSDS especially their lithofacies association and lithologic characteristics through field outcrops investigation and thin section analysis as well. A conclusion was acquired that the paleoenvironment was a fan delta system with occurrence of several volcanic eruptions, where the water became gradually shallower. The SSDS types in the Qingshan Group includes load and flame structure, ball and pillow structure, water-escape structure, hydroplastic deformation structure, plastic sandstone breccia structure, volcanic drop stone and V-shaped ground fissure mainly caused by volcanic earthquakes of three types: (1) seismic waves, (2) gravity and inertia effect of pyroclastic flows, (3) instant differential air pressure; which is different from slumping and tectonic earthquakes occurred in the Laiyang Group. In addition, with the lithofacies association analysis between pyroclastic flow and SSDS beds, a distribution model of SSDS related to volcanic earthquakes can be established: SSDS types changed gradually with their distance further away from the volcanic activity core. Brittle deformation which was common in the proximal zone disappeared gradually; liquefied and plastic SSDS continued to dominate in the medial zone; and slightly liquefied SSDS were developed in the distal zone. Meanwhile, the scale and size of SSDS is negatively correlated with the distance of SSDS depositional locations from the volcanic vent
