Beyond talent management: a relational portrait of companies adapting to global financial downturns

A thesis submitted to the University of Bedfordshire for the degree of Professional Doctor in Systemic PracticeThe thesis examines life within large Danish companies affected by the global financial downturn. It does so from phenomenological-relational perspectives, as a counterpoint to the traditional, mechanical (Cartesian) ways of viewing structures, problems and processes leading to resolutions. In particular, the thesis dwells on the differences between “aboutness” and “withness” as criteria for judging how people behave in such companies, particularly at times when a CEO suddenly announces major and rapid change. The thesis attempts to shape some of the contours of a relational landscape - with different understandings of life and living. In that respect, it looks beyond models, tools and recipes as the only ways of evolving as companies move towards future survival

Soil treatments and rootstocks for organic apple production

6 different soil treatments: Mechanical weeding to the middle of the alleyway, mechanical weeding using 3 different equipments Clemens, Humus and a dish harrow, Soil covering with wheat straw and natural vegetation were combined with 3 rootstocks: M9, J9 and M26 to find the best combination for the apple variety 'Retina'. The trees were planted in the winter 1997/1998, only sprayed at primary RIMpro warnings and drip irrigated. The tree growth, nutrient content of the leaves in august, yield and fruit quality were determined. The rootstock J9 had the highest yield and the biggest amount marketable fruit. Mechanical cleaning to the middle of the alleyways, tree row weed control using Humus or soil covering with straw gave the highest yield and marketable fruit. A one meter weeded strip in the tree row did not remove the competition of the clover grass alleyway. Natural vegetation (weed) in the tree row reduced the yield with more than 50 percent. There was a break down of the Vf resistance of 'Retina'

Sonic mediatization of the book: affordances of the audiobook

This article addresses cultural changes resulting from the growing number of audiobook users and changes in audiobook use emerging from digital technological developments of the past decade. The sonification of the written text is inscribed in the general transformation and mediatization of the printed book but offers radically different affordances than do visually perceived e-books. New portable digital audio media change the act of reading, moving it towards fields of practice in which reading has not been common before: the gym, the bicycle ride, gardening, resting in the dark, etc. From being a medium typically associated with children, the visually handicapped, or the dyslexic, the audiobook has developed into a popular phenomenon, which, we argue, has as much in common with other kinds of mediated mobile listening practices, like music and radio listening, as it has with the reading of printed books. Taking an inductive approach from the micro-level of the individual’s use, the term affordances will be used as a methodological tool within the concept of mediatization

Æblehvepsen (Hoplocampa testudinea) giver store udbyttetab i æbler.

What knowledge - which relationships? Sharing dilemmas of an action researcher

"Taking as points of departure two concrete research projects carried out in Denmark, the article discusses some of the dilemmas faced by the action researcher while she takes turns with ideas of collaboration and community, both in relation to knowledge production, and in relation to the creation of research relations. It argues that an unfolding of a first person perspective can inspire deconstruction of constraining meaning-making processes and motivate critical dialogue about conditions for social change. It also suggests that sharing the dilemmas of the researcher with other participants can additionally open alternative tracks for understanding relations in collaborative research." Lytning og lĂŚsning som kreative processer?

    Get PDF
Is it possible to understand the acts of listening and reading as creative processes and if so, which types of knowledge do these acts generate? By collocating the creativity thinkers Christopher Frayling and Niels Lehmann(and through him, Edward de Bono), the paper presents a phenomenologically inspired method that understands listening and reading as creative processes. One of the points of the paper is to investigate if and how creativity thinking is perhaps imbued with implicit dimensions like spatiality and non-linearity.
