Quasi-Dynamic Frame Coordination For Ultra- Reliability and Low-Latency in 5G TDD Systems
The fifth generation (5G) mobile technology features the ultra-reliable and
low-latency communications (URLLC) as a major service class. URLLC applications
demand a tight radio latency with extreme link reliability. In 5G dynamic time
division duplexing (TDD) systems, URLLC requirements become further challenging
to achieve due to the severe and fast-varying cross link interference (CLI) and
the switching time of the radio frame configurations (RFCs). In this work, we
propose a quasi-dynamic inter-cell frame coordination algorithm using hybrid
frame design and a cyclic-offset-based RFC code-book. The proposed solution
adaptively updates the RFCs in time such that both the average CLI and the
user-centric radio latency are minimized. Compared to state-of-the-art dynamic
TDD studies, the proposed scheme shows a significant improvement in the URLLC
outage latency, i.e., 92% reduction gain, while boosting the cell-edge capacity
by 189% and with a greatly reduced coordination overhead space, limited to
B-bit

Pathogenesis of feline enteric coronavirus infection.
Fifty-one specific pathogen-free (SPF) cats 10 weeks to 13 years of age were infected with a cat-to-cat fecal-oral passed strain of feline enteric coronavirus (FECV). Clinical signs ranged from unapparent to a mild and self-limiting diarrhea. Twenty-nine of these cats were FECV naïve before infection and followed sequentially for fecal virus shedding and antibody responses over a period of 8-48 months. Fecal shedding, as determined by real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) from rectal swabs, appeared within a week and was significantly higher in kittens than older cats. FECV shedding remained at high levels for 2-10 months before eventually evolving into one of three excretion patterns. Eleven cats shed the virus persistently at varying levels over an observation period of 9-24 months. Eleven cats appeared to have periods of virus shedding interlaced with periods of non-shedding (intermittent or recurrent shedders), and seven cats ceased shedding after 5-19 months (average 12 months). There was no change in the patterns of virus shedding among cats that were excreting FECV at the time of a secondary challenge exposure. Four cats, which had ceased shedding, re-manifested a primary type infection when secondarily infected. Cats with higher feline coronavirus (FCoV) antibody titers were significantly more likely to shed virus, while cats with lower titers were significantly less likely to be shedding. Twenty-two kittens born to experimentally infected project queens began shedding virus spontaneously, but never before 9-10 weeks of age. Natural kittenhood infections appeared to be low grade and abortive. However, a characteristic primary type infection occurred following experimental infection with FECV at 12-15 weeks of age. Pregnancy, parturition and lactation had no influence on fecal shedding by queens. Methylprednisolone acetate treatment did not induce non-shedders to shed and shedders to increase shedding
Error correction in ensemble registers for quantum repeaters and quantum computers
We propose to use a collective excitation blockade mechanism to identify
errors that occur due to disturbances of single atoms in ensemble quantum
registers where qubits are stored in the collective population of different
internal atomic states. A simple error correction procedure and a simple
decoherence-free encoding of ensemble qubits in the hyperfine states of alkali

Finite element analysis of stress distribution and the effects of geometry in a laser-generated single-stage ceramic tile grout seal using ANSYS
Optimisation of the geometry (curvature of the vitrified enamel layer) of a laser-generated single-stage ceramic tile grout seal has carried out with a finite element (FE) model. The overall load bearing capacities and load-displacement plots of three selected geometries were determined experimentally by the indentation technique. Simultaneously, a FE model was developed utilising the commercial ANSYS package to simulate the indentation. Although the load-displacement plots generated by the FE model consistently displayed stiffer identities than the experimentally obtained results, there was reasonably close agreement between the two sets of results. Stress distribution profiles of the three FE models at failure loads were analysed and correlated so as to draw an implication on the prediction of a catastrophic failure through an analysis of FE-generated stress distribution profiles. It was observed that although increased curvatures of the vitrified enamel layer do enhance the overall load-bearing capacity of the single-stage ceramic tile grout seal and bring about a lower nominal stress, there is a higher build up in stress concentration at the apex that would inevitably reduce the load-bearing capacity of the enamel glaze. Consequently, the optimum geometry of the vitrified enamel layer was determined to be flat
Slow-light enhanced optical detection in liquid-infiltrated photonic crystals
Slow-light enhanced optical detection in liquid-infiltrated photonic crystals
is theoretically studied. Using a scattering-matrix approach and the
Wigner-Smith delay time concept, we show that optical absorbance benefits both
from slow-light phenomena as well as a high filling factor of the energy
residing in the liquid. Utilizing strongly dispersive photonic crystal
structures, we numerically demonstrate how liquid-infiltrated photonic crystals
facilitate enhanced light-matter interactions, by potentially up to an order of
magnitude. The proposed concept provides strong opportunities for improving
existing miniaturized absorbance cells for optical detection in lab-on-a-chip

Einstein-Weyl structures corresponding to diagonal K\"ahler Bianchi IX metrics
We analyse in a systematic way the four dimensionnal Einstein-Weyl spaces
equipped with a diagonal K\"ahler Bianchi IX metric. In particular, we show
that the subclass of Einstein-Weyl structures with a constant conformal scalar
curvature is the one with a conformally scalar flat - but not necessarily
scalar flat - metric ; we exhibit its 3-parameter distance and Weyl one-form.
This extends previous analysis of Pedersen, Swann and Madsen , limited to the
scalar flat, antiself-dual case. We also check that, in agreement with a
theorem of Derdzinski, the most general conformally Einstein metric in the
family of biaxial K\"ahler Bianchi IX metrics is an extremal metric of Calabi,
conformal to Carter's metric, thanks to Chave and Valent's results.Comment: 15 pages, Latex file, minor modifications, to be published in Class.

Preliminary Investigation of the Little Sioux River Valley
The purpose of this paper is to describe the aerial extent, thickness, and nature of the materials that comprise the modern alluvium and terrace sediments of the Little Sioux River valley. This paper is part of a study conducted in the spring and summer of 1962 which was concerned with the alluvial morphology and engineering properties of the deposits within the valley. Antiferromagnetic noise correlations in optical lattices
We analyze how noise correlations probed by time-of-flight (TOF) experiments
reveal antiferromagnetic (AF) correlations of fermionic atoms in
two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) optical lattices. Combining
analytical and quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) calculations using experimentally
realistic parameters, we show that AF correlations can be detected for
temperatures above and below the critical temperature for AF ordering. It is
demonstrated that spin-resolved noise correlations yield important information
about the spin ordering. Finally, we show how to extract the spin correlation
length and the related critical exponent of the AF transition from the noise.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
Optical and near-infrared observations of the GRB 970616 error box
We report on near-infrared and optical observations of the GRB 970616 error
box and of the X-ray sources discovered by ASCA and ROSAT in the region. No
optical transient was found either within the IPN band or in the X-ray error
boxes, similarly to other bursts, and we suggest that either considerable
intrinsic absorption was present (like GRB 970828) or that the optical
