Introduction: Stress is usually seen as a negative state which is bad for human system as well as for the human mentality. A person could change his/her behavior, gain some experience, and develop skills to counteract stress and increase stress resistance as a response to the experienced stress. Stress resistance is a special personal feature, which is characterized by heightened resistance toward stress factors of a different nature and ability to overcome stress situations more easily. In an academic setting it includes: low personal and situational anxiety, low neruropsychological tension level, adequate self-esteem, high working capacity, emotional stability. All of the above-mentioned guarantees successful achievement of academic goals.Aim: The aim of this study is to establish whether there is a direct relation between stress resistance of Midwife and Nurse students at the Veliko Tarnovo Affiliate on one hand and the achieved academic grade (marks) on the another.Materials and Methods: Stress resistance evaluation of 19 Midwifes and 20 Nurse students all aged between 19 and 53 studied in theVeliko Tarnovo Affiliate was compared to the average achieved academic grade.Documentary, psychometric methods and graphic analysis were used for the purpose of current research. Results: No significant differences in the measured stress resistance of Midwife and Nurse students were reported. Stress resistance assessment of both was mostly satisfactory. The relationship between stress resistance and achieved academic results is not direct, because it depends on different factors - internal (type of higher nervous activity, temper, experience, value orientation, motivation) and external (surroundings, academic environment). Some of these factors could be positively influenced by successful adaptation, training, specific behavior culture, psychological regulation and self-regulation

Introduction: Pre-exam preparation and exams are important moments of students` life. There are proven evidences that stress plays negative influence to nervous, cardio-vascular and immune system. No doubt, basic provocative stress factor is negative experience. No full text
Introduction: The midwife's profession is one of the most humane, but like any other profession, it is also related to the acquisition of material values. In conditions of competition and private practice, it is necessary to look for forms of professional protection, which leads to the emergence of professional organizations.Material and Methods: documentary, historical method and review of archival documents have been used. Results and Discussion: Already at the end of the XIX-th century, midwives joined a professional union founded by feldshers, and in 1901 they founded their own independent professional organization “Midwife”. They actively participate in all established professional organizations of medical workers: Health Society, Union of Sanitary and Veterinary Personnel, Union of Health Workers, Communist Union of Medical-Sanitary Workers, etc. They have an extremely active obstetric section and lead an active organizational life. Their goals and demands in defense of professional and material interests are realistic, in the interest of maternity care and public health. Nowadays, midwives have to be members of Bulgarian Association of Health Professionals in Nursing, which is a regulatory body, and some of them also participate in Alliance of Bulgarian Midwifes – a non-governmental midwifery organization. Conclusion: A retrospective review of professional organizations of midwives shows exceptional activity on their part, which has been maintained and expanded over the years and today recognized by a number of international organizations such as the European Midwives Association (EMA), the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) and etc

Continuing Education of The Midwife. Innovative Educational Approaches /

The purpose of the study is based on the analysis of continuing midwifery education in European countries and the opinion of respondent groups. We present a SWOT analysis of the ongoing education for midwives in Bulgaria and an innovative model for evaluating continuing education results. The comparative analysis of the systems for continuing education in Europe reveals that education in Bulgaria meets the requirements in some parts only – there are no standards and quality assessment methods. We encountered a statistically significant correlation between the acquisition of qualifications, age and educational degree. Healthcare managers are more motivated than midwives; students show a good attitude for continuing education. The synchronization of professional competence with European policies, partial autonomy and scientific progress is the main ground for developing an innovative Continuing education assessment model. It will strengthen awareness and control over the implementation of continuing education, will motivate midwives and will trigger managers and employers’ initiatives related to professional development, according to experts. The proposed accreditation will increase the quality of continuing education, will facilitate the introduction of a unified credit system and standards.
