An architecture for interoperability and ubiquity of medical information

    Get PDF
In critical situations, such as decision making in healthcare, is necessary to have access to all the patient’s information, this information must be reliable, and must be accessed in an easy and fast way. These requirements make medical information systems of extreme importance. However in today’s molds and with the advent of the Internet and mobile devices, a paradigm shift, from the current isolated systems to interoperable distributed systems, that take advantage of ubiquitous computing, is needed. The present work proposes an architecture that aims to answer the needs of interoperability between heterogeneous systems and the need of ubiquity of medical information systems

Health information systems are of extreme importance and they became an intrinsic part of the healthcare sector. However, in today’s molds and with the advent of the Internet and mobile devices, a paradigm shift, from the current isolated systems to interoperable distributed systems, that take advantage of ubiquitous computing, is needed. In critical situations, such as decision making in healthcare, it is necessary to have access to all of the patient’s information; for the information must be reliable and must be accessed in an easy and fast way. The present work proposes an architecture that aims to answer the needs of interoperability between heterogeneous health information systems and the need for ubiquity of medical information. A prototype was developed that tries to provide interoperability through a service-oriented architecture using web services. A mobile component was also developed to enable ubiquitous access to medical information. This work is based on the authors’ knowledge about the Portuguese National Health Service

The growing popularity of massively accessed web applications that store and analyze large amounts of data, being Facebook, twitter and google search some prominent examples of such applications, have posed new requirements that greatly challenge traditional RDBMS. Driven primarily by scalability issues, a new generation of databases, called NoSQL, has gained some strength. This paper presents the main characteristics of these databases. NoSQL databases are compared with traditional RDBMS and important concepts are explained.UNIAG, R&D unit funded by the FCT – Portuguese Foundation for the Development of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

A location-based and contextualized mobile services approach to providing information and services in the tourism industry

Todays’ market is ruled by several mobile devices applications for all types of proposes. Still, for many destinations, it lacks applications that work in an integrated way, combining cooperative mechanisms that allow the effective support the wide range of tourists need when they visit a destination. Many applications, currently available, to the tourism industry are limited in content and cultural offerings, and commercial applications only communicate with their partners and have no cultural content. This paper presents a framework of a mobile application implementation to support the tourist information needs when tourists are visiting the Portuguese city of Mirandela in which interest points are combined with commercial content. The presented model allows the tourist to have only one application that integrates the contents that he wishes/subscribes, both cultural and commercial, creating a parametrizable universal profile that can be accessed by any of the entities in the system. This approach will benefit both tourists and entities involved. This will also allow increasing the dissemination of regional products and/or services and thereby increase their market potential and consequently their sales.UNIAG, R&D unit funded by the FCT – Portuguese Foundation for the Development of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education. Nowadays, tourists are increasingly thirsty for information on anything that surrounds him. With the Information Communication Technologies (ICT) evolution that supports the ubiquity, it is necessary to rethink the available models of information and services to tourists. With the evolution of mobile devices, with wireless access, together with the decreasing of the network traffic costs and with the increasing number of access points of wireless access, becomes more common and attractive. Therefore, in this paper we present an analysis of the state of the art of the support applications for tourists for mobile environments, setting them according to the development technologies. In addition, it is also presented a suitable framework to support the tourist’s needs based on a ubiquitous approach

Tourism is a very emerging sector in any society, very important in econom-ic terms and in job creation, today any traveler increasingly uses technologi-cal means to fully enjoy their trip. The IoT is and increasingly will be a major contributor to smart tourism. To identify the most developed terms in the field of Tourism and Internet of Things, a quantitative analysis was developed in May 2022. This analysis was focused on four hundred and four (404) publications from the Scopus database, published between 2011 and May 4 2022. Before 2011 there were no publications in this area. A bibliometric analysis was performed using the VOSviewer software and a technique of matching terms and co-authorship by authors and countries. Were found 4 clusters for the co-occurrence of terms, 18 clusters for the co-authorship of authors and 6 clusters for the co-authorship of countries. There was a lack of uniformity in the presentation of terms with the same meaning: internet of things, internet of things (iot), iot and internet of thing (iot). This lack of uniformity is probably due to the fact that it is a recent ar-ea of investigation.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The actual economic paradigm is based on a strongly cooperative model that tries to support a more competitive and global organizations response. With cooperation comes an intrinsic need - interconnection and interoperability of information systems among business partners. This represents, in many areas, a huge organizational challenge, being the field of information, and communication security one emerging key issue and a natural enabler for cooperative behavior and to the proper establishment and support of trust among network partners. Security frameworks, that can be able to describe and act on the basis of interoperability, cooperation and proactivity, became essential to support the new needs of modern business models. This paper present a framework that aims to contribute to a sustainable organizational information security-processes support, based on the ability to describe the allowed business process interactions among cooperative partners; furthermore, the framework presents a cooperative security perspective among partners basis on the idea that, if organizations have business cooperation, they should also have active security cooperation and regulation. If organizations, that need to cooperate, do not feel secure when they interconnect their information systems, the all cooperative perspective can fall down. Trust being one basic need for cooperation, impulse the need of a new security approach for cooperative scenarios
