Background: The dosage and safety of nutritional supplements for patients with venous ulcers are still not well established. Aim: To evaluate the effects of a high calorie, high protein, arginine-, zinc-, and vitamins A, C, and E-enriched nutritional supplement on the biochemical profile, dietary intake, anthropometry, muscle strength, and characteristics of lesions of patients with venous ulcers. Methods: A controlled before–after clinical trial with a four-week follow-up involved 27 patients with venous ulcers under outpatient treatment in Brazil. It was administered in two to three doses per day (200 mL each) of a high-calorie and high-protein supplement enriched with arginine, zinc, and vitamins A, C, and E. Patients were assessed for anthropometric parameters, dietary intake, biochemical tests, and healing conditions according to the Pressure Ulcer Scale for Healing (PUSH). Results: It was observed that an increase in energy and protein supply led to an adequate intake of immunonutrients (zinc and vitamins A, C, and E), increased body weight, increased body mass index, and stronger handgrip strength. The injury area and the score on the PUSH notably decreased after the intervention (p < 0.001). Conclusions: The administered supplement, at the tested dosage, improved the nutritional status and characteristics of lesions in patients with venous ulcers. This research was funded by the Goias Research Foundation, State Health Department of Goias, National Council for Scientific and Technological Development, Ministry of Health, Department of Science and Technology (Research Program for the Brazilian Unified Health System—PPSUS 201410267000321), and the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (487093/2013-5)

Objective: To verify the internal consistency and stability of the Charing Cross Venous Ulcer Questionnaire - Brazil (CCVUQ-Brazil). Methods: This was a methodological study conducted in two cities from different regions of Brazil (Goiania and Niteroi), from June 2016 to June 2018. The sample for internal consistency was composed of 112 individuals and for stability 74 participants were evaluated. All the individuals presented with a venous ulcer and received care in the public health network. For internal consistency analysis the Cronbach's alpha was calculated. The questionnaire was administered twice with a 30 minutes interval and for the stability analysis the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was calculated. Results: The CCVUQ-Brazil presented a Cronbach's alpha score of 0.92, and for the domains (social interaction, domestic activities, aesthetics and emotional state) it was above 0.70. The stability was excellent (ICC = 0.96) for total score of the questionnaire and for the majority of the domains. Conclusion: The CCVUQ- Brazil showed good internal consistency, considering the two locations analyzed, and excellent stability in the Goiania.Objetivo: Verificar a consistência interna e estabilidade do Charing Cross Venous Ulcer Questionnaire - Brasil (CCVUQ-Brasil). Objective: To investigate the prevalence of BE and assess factors associated with severe obese women. Methods: Cross-sectional study with adult women (20-59 years), body mass index (BMI) ≥ 35 kg/m2, who sought treatment for weight loss in Outpatient Nutrition Obesity Grave (ANOG/ HC/ UFG) from February 2008 to June 2012. The variables studied were: sociodemographic (age, marital status, years of education and family income), health conditions (co-morbidities and current medications for weight loss); history of obesity (onset of obesity, obesity in the family and previous treatment for weight loss), lifestyle (physical activity, smoking, alcohol consumption), feeding behavior (number of meals per day habit of pinching, CAP) and anthropometric data (weight, height and BMI). The outcome variable was the presence of BE, determined by applying the Binge Eating Scale. Described themselves frequencies, prevalences and prevalence ratios, considering confidence intervals of 95%. To analyze the association was used Chi-square or Fisher. For values of p <0.20 in the bivariate analysis performed multivariate analysis using Poisson Regression. Considered a significance level of 5%. Results: We analyzed 94 women with a mean age of 37.7 years and mean BMI of 47.4 kg/m². A prevalence of 53.2% in BE, with 28.7% classified as moderate BE and 24.5% as severe BE. Statistically significant associations were observed for age 40-49 years, who presented a 2 times more (p = 0.011) prevalence of BE in relation to the age group of 30 to 39 years and have a habit of snacking which showed 1.9 times higher (p = 0.003) prevalence of BE. Conclusion: Given the high prevalence of BE observed and associated factors, we emphasize the importance of diagnosis and monitoring of BE in severe obese by the multidisciplinary team in order to assist in the effectiveness of dietary treatment.

Objective Investigate binge eating (BE) prevalence in women according to the obesity degree and assess the associated factors. Methods Cross-sectional study with female adults presenting body mass index (BMI) ≥ 35 kg/m2. The analyzed variables were: sociodemographics, health status, obesity history, lifestyle, eating behavior and obesity degree. In order to analyse BE it was used the Binge Eating Scale (BES), which is considered positive when BES ≥ 18 points. Prevalence and prevalence ratios (PR) were calculated with confidence intervals (CI) of 95%. Multivariate analysis was carried out using Poisson regression. Results BE prevalence was 53.2%, and the prevalence in super superobese women (BMI ≥ 60 kg/m2) was 75%. After multivariate analysis, associations were observed between the age group 40-49 years old (PR = 2.0; 95% CI = 1.2-3.4) and the “snacking habit” (PR = 1.9; 95% CI = 1.2-2.9). Conclusion The prevalence of BE in severe obese women was high. Association with the “snacking habit” can be a BE marker that should be monitored in the severely obese individuals that fit this profile
