    Iniciação científica para quê?

    Este artigo visa apresentar e discutir a inserção e o desenvolvimento da Iniciação Científica (IC) numa escola técnica de nível médio de Santa Catarina (Instituto Federal Catarinense - Campus Rio do Sul - IFC), tendo como marco teórico Paulo Freire e, promover a discussão entre a IC com as repercussões sociais contemporâneas decorrentes da ciência e tecnologia. Inicialmente será apresentado o desenvolvimento da disciplina de IC no ensino médio do IFC seguidos da aplicação de um questionário aos docentes e estudantes de IC do ensino médio. A análise dos resultados baseou-se nas perspectivas reducionista e ampliada conforme discutidas por Auler e Delizoicov (2001), com ênfase na perspectiva ampliada. Concluímos que ocorre uma fragmentação da visão da IC sendo fundamental ter a ciência e a tecnologia a favor da sociedade

    Immature development of Spodoptera dolichos (Fabricius) (Lepidoptera: noctuidae).

    We provide detailed temporal and morphological parameters of the immature stages of Spodoptera dolichos (Fabricius) larvae fed on artificial diet under controlled conditions (25?±?1°C, 70?±?10% RH, and 14 h photophase). The viability of the egg, larval, pupal, and prepupal stages was 97.5%, 97.0%, 93.1%, and 98.9%, respectively. The average duration of the egg, larval, prepupal, and pupal stages was 5.0, 23.4, 3.2, and 21.5 days, respectively. Females took longer at the larval stage than males, with 10.5% of them having seven instars. The growth rate of female larvae that developed through six and seven instars was 1.72 and 1.54, respectively. Female pupae were significantly larger, exhibiting slower development than males

    Formyl Peptide Receptors and Annexin A1: Complementary Mechanisms to Infliximab in Murine Experimental Colitis and Crohn's Disease

    Non-responsiveness to anti-TNF-α therapies presents relevant rates in inflammatory bowel disease patients, presenting the need to find biomarkers involved in therapeutic efficacy. Herein, we demonstrate that higher levels of colonic formyl peptide receptor 1 and annexin A1 correlate with histological recovery in Crohn’s disease patients under remission. Using the dextran sulfate sodium colitis model in mice, we suggest that infliximab induces annexin A1 expression and secretion in activated intestinal leukocytes. Conversely, this mechanism might stimulate epithelial formyl peptide receptors, inducing wound healing and consequent histological remission. Our data indicate that assessing intestinal expressions of formyl peptide receptors and annexin A1 might provide precious information on the disease activity and responsiveness to infliximab in inflammatory bowel disease patients

    Alfabetização Científica e Tecnológica no Currículo da Formação de Professores de Matemática

    Este artigo discute a incipiência que existe na formação inicial de professores de Matemática, relacionada à Alfabetização Científica e Tecnológica (ACT), e a importância que a sua inserção tem no currículo dos cursos de formação inicial destes professores. Os dados empíricos do estudo exploratório, realizado com acadêmicos de um curso de formação de professores em Matemática, analisados à luz das perspectivas reducionista e ampliada (Auler e Delizoicov, 2001), que têm como pano de fundo a neutralidade ou não neutralidade da Ciência e da Tecnologia (C&T) sobre ACT, apontam a necessidade do conhecimento reflexivo que instigue os acadêmicos a problematizar as complexas relações entre Ciência, Tecnologia e Sociedade. Os resultados demonstram um distanciamento das concepções acerca da ACT na perspectiva ampliada e uma confusão de ACT com metodologia científica

    Clinical implications and histological correlation of atypical glandular cells found in cervicovaginal smears

    Introduction: Atypical glandular cells (AGC) are carriers of insufficient nuclear abnormalities for the diagnosis of adenocarcinoma, but exceed the criteria for classification as reactive glandular cells. This is an uncommon diagnosis, which may be associated with neoplastic lesions. Objective: To evaluate the clinical significance of primary cytological diagnosis of AGC through correlation with results of subsequent cyto-histologic examination. Materials and methods: 10 years retrospective study based on cervical cytologic results indicating AGC, classified as "possibly non-neoplastic" or "cannot exclude high-grade intraepithelial lesion". It was performed cyto-histopathological correlation in cases that were submitted to subsequent histopathological examination up to two years after cervical cytology analysis. Results: AGC were reported in 380 (0.06%) exams, providing 160 cases with subsequent biopsy. 85 (53.1%) of these, presented benign changes and 75 (46.9%) neoplastic lesions. From 114 "possibly non-neoplastic" cytological results, 71 (62.3%) had benign histological changes, and 43 (37.7%) neoplastic lesions, corresponding to a negative predictive value (NPV) of 62.3%. In contrast, among the 46 AGC "cannot exclude high-grade intraepithelial lesion" results, 14 (30.4%) presented benign changes and 32 (69.6%) neoplastic lesions (positive predictive value [PPV] = 69.6%). Discussion: The high rate of cancer associated with the diagnosis of AGC reassures the importance of recognizing these atypical cells in pap smears. The classification of "possibly non-neoplastic" and "cannot exclude high-grade intraepithelial lesion" may suggest the origin of cytological changes. Conclusion: Our results reinforce the importance of adequate follow-up of patients with AGC diagnosis on cervical cytology

    Reports of a penalty remission experience through solidary economy in Blumenau’s Regional Prison

    This article aims to report the experience gained in the extension project throughout 2017, where it was sought to address issues of penalty remission from educational actions in favor of the organization of associative work. Methodologically, the project contemplated Solidary Economy principles and Paulo Freire’s Popular Pedagogy, offering workshops for thirteen inmates under semi-open penalty in Blumenau’s Regional Prison. Despite the restrictions imposed by the penal institution, this project made it possible for detainees to expand their professional training process and to present a new form of work. In the academic field, the project contributed to strength the dialogue between three extension projects of the University that carry out projects involving Blumenau prison population, besides providing a seminar and developing two new academic projects, one for research and the other for extension

A pobreza apresenta m?ltiplas facetas, devendo ser vista e trabalhada sobre diferentes olhares para romper esse ciclo vicioso. Buscou-se, com esta pesquisa, investigar se a inclus?o dos cidad?os no programa social Bolsa-Fam?lia efetivamente contribui para o enfrentamento ? pobreza e uma maior autonomia dos sujeitos benefici?rios. Foram coletados dados qualitativos com 3 profissionais e 4 fam?lias benefici?rias e dados quantitativos com 103 fam?lias residentes em 7 bairros de Porto Alegre. Os resultados mostram que na percep??o dos entrevistados houve uma melhora significativa nas situa??es de vida das fam?lias. A participa??o em atividades de grupos, reuni?es, entre outras, revelou-se significativa com rela??o a percep??o de melhoria na situa??o de vida das fam?lias, salientando a import?ncia do envolvimento para o desenvolvimento da autonomia e emancipa??o. Pontos fortes e fracos do PBF s?o revelados de modo que sejam potencializados ou reestruturados para que atinja plenamente seus objetivos, combatendo a pobreza em suas diferentes formas na constru??o de uma sociedade mais igualit?ria
