Une expérience d'encadrement départemental en français

Depuis l’automne 2008, le Département de français du Cégep André-Laurendeau a mis en place des « mesures d’encadrement et de suivi des étudiants » qui permettent par différents moyens aux étudiants inscrits aux trois premiers cours de français de réussir ces cours et l’épreuve uniforme de français. Cette entrevue avec un coordonnateur et une enseignante illustre comment ces mesures départementales se concrétisent dans cet établissement, notamment par l'ajout d'une heure d'encadrement en français, l'implantation d'un double seuil de réussite, le déplacement du cours de mise à niveau (MAN) après l'échec du volet langue d'un cours et l’utlisation de codes de correction communs. Les interviewés expliquent en quoi consistent ces mesures et mettent l'accent sur la question de l'heure d'encadrement, précisant son impact sur les étudiants. Avec une expérience de trois ans au cœur de ce projet de mesures d'encadrement et de suivi des étudiants, si les personnes rencontrées évoquent les failles à combler, elles insistent particulièrement sur les conséquences positives que ce projet a apportées, telles l'amélioration des étudiants, l'évolution de leur rapport à la langue et l'atteinte des objectifs des mesures d’encadrement départemental

Orientational order of carbon nanotube guests in a nematic host suspension of colloidal viral rods

In order to investigate the coupling between the degrees of alignment of elongated particles in binary nematic dispersions, surfactant stabilized single-wall carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been added to nematic suspensions of colloidal rodlike viruses in aqueous solution.We have independently measured the orientational order parameter of both components of the guest-host system by means of polarized Raman spectroscopy and by optical birefringence, respectively. Our system allows us therefore to probe the regime where the guest particles (CNTs) are shorter and thinner than the fd virus host particles. We show that the degree of order of the CNTs is systematically smaller than that of the fd virus particles for the whole nematic range. These measurements are in good agreement with predictions of an Onsager-type second-viral theory, which explicitly includes the flexibility of the virus particles, and the polydispersity of the CNTs.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figure

Aerometric monitoring system for pollution control

Air quality monitoring and analysis is needed in order to provide decision makers with reliable information about the pollution situation so that they can take appropriate measures to mitigate or prevent negative impacts whenever there is need. World Health Organization (WHO) has recently announced that air pollution is carcinogenic to humans. The results from the reviewed studies point in the same direction: the risk of developing lung cancer hss significantly increased in people exposed to air pollution. This finding elevates the urgency to create awareness among common people about the air, both outdoors and indoors. In our project "Aerometric Monitoring System for Pollution Control”, we use a device that consists of a cluster of sensors that are used to sense atmospheric characteristics continuously. Atmospheric characteristics include Temperature, Humidity, Gas index indicating presence of poisonous gases etc. Several such devices can be deployed in places where we need to estimate air pollution. This covers public domains like bus stands, railway stations, junctions etc. and private domains like households, small scale industries and so on. The aggregated data collected by these devices are uploaded to the Internet using IoT platform by establishing a connection. The data is then displayed on the IoT platform along with various graphical representations. This enables the public to access the data anywhere, any time

Le présent rapport fournit un aperçu des résultats d’une enquête nationale réalisée au printemps et à l’été 2017 auprès de l’ensemble des établissements post-secondaires publics canadiens. L’étude a été menée par une équipe de chercheurs canadiens indépendants. Les résultats du sondage ont été présentés à Toronto le 17 octobre 2017 dans le cadre de la Conférence mondiale sur l’apprentissage en ligne

Sondage national sur la formation à distance et l’apprentissage en ligne

Disponible en anglais dans EDUQ.info sous le titre "Tracking Online and Distance Education in Canadian Universities and Colleges: 2018"Le premier sondage complet sur la formation à distance et l’apprentissage en ligne mené auprès des établissements d’enseignement postsecondaire publics du Canada, dans chaque province et chaque territoire et pour tous les types d’établissements, a été réalisé en 2017. Les résultats avaient montré que l’apprentissage en ligne se portait très bien dans les établissements postsecondaires canadiens, 85 % de l’ensemble des établissements répondants ayant offert en 2016 des cours en ligne crédités, sans compter que des cours en ligne étaient offerts dans presque tous les domaines d’études dans un établissement ou un autre. Les deux tiers des établissements répondants considéraient que l’apprentissage en ligne était très ou extrêmement important pour leur avenir à long terme. L’étude de 2018 s’appuie sur les résultats de l’année dernière, et comprend une liste élargie d’établissements, un questionnaire modifié avec des questions plus détaillées, ainsi que des définitions et des questions plus précises ayant trait aux inscriptions. Les établissements répondants représentent 92 % de la population étudiante postsecondaire du Canada

PA-GOSUB: a searchable database of model organism protein sequences with their predicted Gene Ontology molecular function and subcellular localization

PA-GOSUB (Proteome Analyst: Gene Ontology Molecular Function and Subcellular Localization) is a publicly available, web-based, searchable and downloadable database that contains the sequences, predicted GO molecular functions and predicted subcellular localizations of more than 107 000 proteins from 10 model organisms (and growing), covering the major kingdoms and phyla for which annotated proteomes exist (http://www.cs.ualberta.ca/~bioinfo/PA/GOSUB). The PA-GOSUB database effectively expands the coverage of subcellular localization and GO function annotations by a significant factor (already over five for subcellular localization, compared with Swiss-Prot v42.7), and more model organisms are being added to PA-GOSUB as their sequenced proteomes become available. PA-GOSUB can be used in three main ways. First, a researcher can browse the pre-computed PA-GOSUB annotations on a per-organism and per-protein basis using annotation-based and text-based filters. Second, a user can perform BLAST searches against the PA-GOSUB database and use the annotations from the homologs as simple predictors for the new sequences. Third, the whole of PA-GOSUB can be downloaded in either FASTA or comma-separated values (CSV) formats
