In vivo study to evaluate the anti-gastric ulcer activity of the hydro alcoholic extract of the leaves of Pyracantha angustifolia on rat has been conducted. Gastric ulcer was induced by the administration of indomethacin and absolute ethanol per os and pylorus ligation. The results obtained with the use of absolute ethanol showed that the extract protects gastric mucus. The extract, at a dose of 600mg/kg, reduced the ulcer index from 56.58% in the control group to 5.16% in the treated animals (p<0.05). The indomethacin provoked lesions of 11.36±0.08 mm2 in the control group and 1.21±0.12mm2 in the experimental group which received the 600mg/kg of the extract (p<0.05). After pylorus ligation, the pH of the gastric content of the control group animals was 2.13±0.21versus 3.89±0.49 for the animals which received 600mg/kg of the extract (p<0.05). These findings show that the extract of the leaves of Pyracantha angustifolia protects the gastric wall against the ethanol aggression, accelerates the healing of indomethacinprovoked gastric lesion and decreases gastric acidity after pylorus ligation

This work aimsto study the anticonvulsant activity in vivo of the hydro alcoholic extract of Ageratum conyzoides L. (ASTERACEAE) in mice. Seizure was induced by electric stimulation of animal ears and intraperitoneal injection of picrotoxin. The extract increases the seizure threshold and reduces picrotoxin-induced convulsion duration. Animals of control group reacted to electric shock of 10.67 ± 0.74 mV, versus 14.33 ± 0.64, 22.67 ± 1.28 and 29.33 ± 0.64 mV for the animals treated with the extract at doses 200, 400 and 800 mg/kg respectively (P<0.05). Duration of clonic seizure induced by picrotoxin decreases from 36.04 ± 3.46 s in control group to 31.33 ± 0.88, 14.08 ± 1.02 and 10.07 ±1.31 s in the treated animals, while tonic seizure duration in control group is equal to 156.33 ± 24.53 s versus 73.02 ± 5.32 s and 29.67 ± 3.59 s in the animals treated with the extract at doses 400 and 800 mg/kg respectively (P<0.05). Alkaloids in the extract might be responsible for this activity by blocking Na+ or K+ channels, it also might enhance GABA or inhibit glutamate action

This study was focused on the release of TNF- α by cultured monocytes of human blood in the absence and presence of D : B Friedo - olean - 5 -en- 3α -ol (DBFO). The human monocytes were isolated from the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). The release of TNF-α by monocytes was induced by the addition of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to the culture medium. ELISA Sandwich's method was used to the dosing of TNF- α concentration. The release of TNF-α is inhibited by DBFO. In the absence of DBFO, TNF- α concentration is 3.86 ng/ml versus 3.77 ; 3.2 ; 2.79 and 0.89 ng/ml in the presence of DBFO at concentrations 1 , 3, 10 and 30 μg/ml respectively ( p <0.05)
