The present study was undertaken to assess and compare the self-efficacy of boxers, weightlifters and wrestlers. For this present study, total two hundred forty sportsmen of different colleges of Himachal Pradesh University were randomly drawn to act as subjects. Out of these, eighty male boxers, eighty male weightlifters and eighty male wrestlers were selected to act as subjects. Only those sportsmen were selected, who participated in inter college competitions. The Hindi version of general self-efficacy developed by S. Sud, Schwarzer and Jerusalem (1998) was used to collect data regarding self-efficacy. Mean and standard deviation, analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey Post Hoc Test were used as statistical techniques. It is found that there was significant difference regarding self-efficacy between boxers, weightlifters and wrestlers. Boxers possessed higher level of self-efficacy than weight lifters

Snakebite presenting as acute coronary syndrome: An interesting diagnosis and management

    Get PDF
Snakebite is a common presentation in India, especially in the Sub-Himalayan region. The most common presentation of snakebiteis neurotoxic and hematologic complications. Acute coronary syndrome after a snakebite is rare. This case report explicitly explainsa patient presenting as acute coronary syndrome after a snakebite with dynamic electrocardiogram changes. Later on, the anti-snakevenom therapy was given to the patient and her condition improved. It should be kept in mind that, since the pathology of snakebiteinducedmyocardial infarction is different, its management will also be different

Kinetics of Amorphous-Crystalline Transformation of Some Se-Te-In Chalcogenide Glasses Using Gao and Wang Model

    Get PDF
The present study reports the assessment of activation energy for crystallization and crystallization reaction order (Avrami exponent n) for the amorphous-crystallization transformation process of Se85 βˆ’ xTe15Inx (x 2, 6 and 10) amorphous alloys using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) technique under non-isothermal conditions at four different heating rates (5, 10, 15 and 20 Β°C/min) through Gao and Wang model. The introduction of In to the Se-Te system is found to bring a change in crystallization mechanisms and dimensions of growth. Safety evaluation of seabuckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) leaves in Japanese quail

    Get PDF
Aim: The present study was designed to evaluate the safety of seabuckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides L. Elaeagnaceae) leaves added in the diet of Japanese quail. Materials and Methods: A total of ninety quail chicks were randomly divided into 2 groups and fed a standard quail chick mash added with or without 2% SBT leaf powder (Group SX), and a standard quail chick mash (Group CX, control) for 21 days. Six animals from each group were randomly sacrificed at 7, 14 and 21 day post feeding. Blood and tissue samples were collected for biochemical and histopathological studies. Results: The inclusion of SBT in quail diet did not affect the weekly body weights, clinical signs or mortality among the birds. The serum biochemical parameters like alanine transaminase, total protein, albumin, cholesterol and uric acid values in SBT treated group were found at par with those in the control group. Gross and histopathological studies of various internal organs such as liver, kidneys, heart, spleen, proventriculus, small intestine, bursa and thymus did not reveal any significant lesions in the tissue sections. However, proliferation of lymphoid tissue was a prominent finding noted in different lymphoid organs. Conclusion: In conclusion, the addition of seabuckthorn leaf powder at 2% level in the diet of Japanese quail was found to be safe and it can be used as a feed additive

Non-isothermal crystallization kinetics of chalcogenide Se79Te20Pb1 glass using differential scanning calorimetry technique

    Get PDF
In the present paper, the overall amorphous-crystallization transformation kinetics of chalcogenide Se79Te20Pb1 alloy has been reported using differential scanning calorimetry technique under non-isothermal conditions at three different heating rates (5, 10 and 15 Β°C/min). Amorphous nature of the investigated alloy is verified using X-ray diffraction. The glass transition region has been investigated using three empirical approaches and consonance of these methods has been discussed. The apparent activation energy for glass transition and crystallization region has been deduced using different methods. The Avrami exponent of the investigated alloy indicates one dimension growth of the investigated glass. The deduced values of Hruby’s parameter and fragility index indicate that amorphous alloy has been formed from good glass forming liquids

Structural analysis and theoretical investigations in Pb additive Se-Te-Ge chalcogenide nano-composites

In the present study, the impact of lead addition on the structural and physical properties of newly prepared quaternary (Se80Te20)94-xGe6Pbx (x= 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10) chalcogenide nano-composites has been studied in detail. Nano particle size of each Pb addtive chalcogenide alloy has been deduced using the highest intensity peak of the X-ray diffractograms and it has also been confirmed by field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM). The detailed study of physical parameters namely average co-ordination number (Z) and number of constraints, lone pair electrons, glass transition temperature, heat of atomization, cohesive energy and energy gap has been made. It is observed that Z and constraints have been found to increase with the addition in Pb content. However, all the other investigated parameters viz lone pair electrons, glass transition temperature, heat of atomization, cohesive energy and energy gap show a reverse variation. Glass transition temperature has been estimated theoretically using Tichy-Ticha approach and found to be in consonance with the experimental results. The cohesive energy has been calculated using chemical bond approach (CBA) model. Due to lower band gap of Pb, the overall bandgap of the composition has been found to decrease with Pb at.wt.%
