Lanthanum triflate triggered synthesis of tetrahydroquinazolinone derivatives of N-allyl quinolone and their biological assessment

    Get PDF
A series of 24 derivatives of tetrahydroquinazolinone has been synthesized by one-pot cyclocondensation reaction of N-allyl quinolones, cyclic Ī²-diketones and (thio)urea/N-phenylthiourea in presence of lanthanum triflate catalyst. This methodology allowed us to achieve the products in excellent yield by stirring at room temperature. All the synthesized compounds were investigated against a representative panel of pathogenic strains using broth microdilution MIC (minimum inhibitory concentration) method for their in vitro antimicrobial activity. Amongst these sets of heterocyclic compounds 5h, 6b, 6h, 5f, 5l, 5n and 6g found to have admirable activity

Studies on Degradation of Reactive Red 135 Dye in Wastewater using Ozone

AbstractAn attempt has been made in this paper to identify effects of efficient ozonation processes for decolorization and/or degradation of organic pollutants for environmental protection. In dyes, since the chromosphere groups with conjugated double bonds, which are responsible for color, can be broken down by ozone either directly or indirectly forming smaller molecules, thereby decreasing the color of the effluents. Ozonation and its combinations are effective for wastewater treatment. In the present study 99.9% decolorization of RR 135 was accomplished by ozonation. The time required for the complete decolorization gradually increase with increase in the initial dye concentration. For RR135 after 48, 55 and 67min reaction time, complete decolorizaton was achieved at initial dye concentrations of 500, 1000 and 1500mg/L, respectively. The COD removal efficiency gradually decreased with an increase in the initial concentration. For RR135 after 60, 65 and 87min reaction time, the COD removal percentage was 66.66%, 61% and 56.64% at initial dye concentrations of 500, 1000 and 1500mg/L, respectively

Renal arteriovenous malformation presenting with massive hematuria

AbstractRenal arteriovenous malformations are abnormal communications between the intrarenal arterial and venous systems. They are a rare cause of hematuria. Color Doppler ultrasonography, multislice CT angiography, and DSA are important tools for making the diagnosis. We describe the case of a 62-year-old man with renal arteriovenous malformation who presented with gross hematuria

What makes men leak? An investigation of objective and self-report measures of urinary incontinence early after radical prostatectomy

AimsPelvic floor muscle training for patients having radical prostatectomy promotes contraction of these muscles in anticipation of activities that may provoke urine leakage. The aims of this study were: to determine the contribution of the individual activities comprising a standardised 1-hour pad test (1HPT) to overall urine leakage early after radical prostatectomy; and to investigate relationships between the 1HPT, 24-hour pad test (24HPT) and the International Consultation on Incontinence QuestionnaireShort Form (ICIQ-SF) early after radical prostatectomy. MethodsA prospective analysis of patients having radical prostatectomy and receiving pelvic floor muscle training (n=33). Participants completed the 1HPT, 24HPT and ICIQ-SF at 3 and 6 weeks postoperatively. Participants wore a separate, pre-weighed continence pad for each of the seven activities comprising the 1HPT; pads were weighed separately and together to calculate activity-related and overall urine leakage. ResultsWalking at a comfortable speed and drinking while sitting were the two activities contributing most to overall urine leakage, albeit these activities also comprised 75% of 1HPT time. All component activities contributed a minimum 75% of overall urine leakage. There were significant and strong to very strong correlations between all of the 1HPT, 24HPT, and ICIQ-SF at 3 weeks postoperatively. There were significant decreases in 24HPT (P=0.032) and ICIQ-SF (P=0.001) but no significant change in 1HPT from 3 to 6 weeks postoperatively. ConclusionsPelvic floor muscle training should include contraction of these muscles in sedentary and walking postures. The 1HPT correlates well with the 24HPT, but may not be sensitive to early postoperative improvements in urinary leakage. Neurourol. Urodynam. 35:225-229, 2016. (c) 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc

Agronomic biofortification with zinc and iron to enhance nutrient concentrations in mango

Biofortification is a global-scale agricultural approach that can improve human nutrition. Agronomic biofortification is viewed as a quick-fix and supplemental approach. Agronomic biofortification, especially foliar application, is highly effective for zinc and iron. A field experiment on agronomic biofortification of zinc and iron micronutrients in mango cv. Kesar was carried out in 2016-2017 at the Regional Horticultural Research Station, ASPEE College of Horticulture and Forestry, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari (Gujarat). The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design (CRD) with three replications containing 9 treatments. The results show that foliar application of ZnSO4 and FeSO4 (0.5% each) resulted in higher N (48.73 mg/100 g) and K (94.17 mg/100 g) in the pulp and P (0.056%) in the peel of mango. The iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn) contents in pulp and peel were highest in treatment T9 (0.50% FeSO4 + 0.50% ZnSO4), which was on par with those in treatment T8 (0.50% FeSO4 + 0.25% ZnSO4)

A comparison of machine learning classifiers for pediatric epilepsy using resting-state functional MRI latency data

    Get PDF
Epilepsy affects 1 in 150 children under the age of 10 and is the most common chronic pediatric neurological condition; poor seizure control can irreversibly disrupt normal brain development. The present study compared the ability of different machine learning algorithms trained with resting-state functional MRI (rfMRI) latency data to detect epilepsy. Preoperative rfMRI and anatomical MRI scans were obtained for 63 patients with epilepsy and 259 healthy controls. The normal distribution of latency z-scores from the epilepsy and healthy control cohorts were analyzed for overlap in 36 seed regions. In these seed regions, overlap between the study cohorts ranged from 0.44-0.58. Machine learning features were extracted from latency z-score maps using principal component analysis. Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), Support Vector Machines (SVM), and Random Forest algorithms were trained with these features. Area under the receiver operating characteristics curve (AUC), accuracy, sensitivity, specificity and F1-scores were used to evaluate model performance. The XGBoost model outperformed all other models with a test AUC of 0.79, accuracy of 74%, specificity of 73%, and a sensitivity of 77%. The Random Forest model performed comparably to XGBoost across multiple metrics, but it had a test sensitivity of 31%. The SVM model did not perform \u3e70% in any of the test metrics. The XGBoost model had the highest sensitivity and accuracy for the detection of epilepsy. Development of machine learning algorithms trained with rfMRI latency data could provide an adjunctive method for the diagnosis and evaluation of epilepsy with the goal of enabling timely and appropriate care for patients
