    Quality Control and Risk Management of Carbon Nanomaterials

    Our atmosphere contains a substantial number of nanoparticles in which some are unintentionally produced, whereas others are intentionally produced engineered nanoparticle. Among all ENPs, the single-walled and multi-walled carbon nanotubes, spherical fullerenes, and dendrimers are attracting attention for biomedical applications, such as biosensor design, drug delivery, tumor therapy, and tissue engineering. Because of the inert nature of pristine carbon nanotubes (CNTs), it needs to be functionalized to make it reactive with other organic and inorganic materials. The functionalization leads to the addition of functional groups, e.g., C‖O, C▬O, ▬OH, and ▬COOH, to CNTs, which make them dispersible in solvents and suitable for numerous applications. Functionalized CNTs and their composite need to be tested for biocompatibility before real-time applications. Various toxicity mechanisms have been suggested for CNTs, including interference of transmembrane electron transfer, interruption/penetration of the cell envelope, oxidation of cell elements, and formulation of secondary products such as dissolved heavy metal ions or reactive oxygen species (ROS). Numerous studies have insinuated that well-functionalized CNTs are innoxious to animal cells, while raw CNTs or CNTs without functionalization manifest toxicity to cells at even modest dosage

    Thermal aware task assignment for multicore processors using genetic algorithm

    Microprocessor power and thermal density are increasing exponentially. The reliability of the processor declined, cooling costs rose, and the processor's lifespan was shortened due to an overheated processor and poor thermal management like thermally unbalanced processors. Thus, the thermal management and balancing of multi-core processors are extremely crucial. This work mostly focuses on a compact temperature model of multicore processors. In this paper, a novel task assignment is proposed using a genetic algorithm to maintain the thermal balance of the cores, by considering the energy expended by each task that the core performs. And expecting the cores’ temperature using the hotspot simulator. The algorithm assigns tasks to the processors depending on the task parameters and current cores’ temperature in such a way that none of the tasks’ deadlines are lost for the earliest deadline first (EDF) scheduling algorithm. The mathematical model was derived, and the simulation results showed that the highest temperature difference between the cores is 8 °C for approximately 14 seconds of simulation. These results validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in managing the hotspot and reducing both temperature and energy consumption in multicore processors

    Food Supply Chain Management in Indian Agriculture: Issues, Opportunities and Further Research

    This paper is an attempt to explore the problems faced by Indian agriculture for food security in terms of inadequate infrastructure and highly inefficient supply chain in context of information technology. Due to lack of efficient infrastructure and food processing industry about 30-35 percent of all foods produced in India are wasted. This paper examines the critical issues at each sub-system of agriculture supply chain, starting from the input to the consumer, with a view to integrating them in efficient and effective manner. Investments in cold chain infrastructure, applied research in post harvest technologies, installation of food processing plants in various sectors and development of food retailing sector are mandatory for achieving gains in this sector. Paper broadly covers some of important aspects of agriculture supply chain in India- identification of issues at different levels in the supply chain; transformation in the agriculture due to various supply chain interventions; the role of ICTs in supply chain management: and this paper also covers the suggestion to improve efficiency at different levels in supply chain. There is wide research gap in this sector, having such potential and prospectus for overall growth there is not much research in this field. The paper concludes that efficient supply chain plays very important role for development and contemporary issue for agriculture therefore; government action must address the issue of infrastructure development to achieve the objective of food security for all

Due to lack of efficient infrastructure, supply chain mechanism and food processing, around 30–35 per cent of all foods produced in India are wasted. This article examines the critical issues at subsystem of agriculture supply chain, with a view to integrating them in efficient and effective manner. This article broadly covers some important aspects of agriculture supply chain in India—identification of issues at different levels in the supply chain; transformation in the agriculture due to various supply chain interventions; and the role of information technology in supply chain management. As this article is based on both primary and secondary research methodology, it has led us to finding that there is not much research in this field in India and importance of integration in agricultural development. The article concludes that efficient supply chain plays a very important role for development and is a contemporary issue for agriculture, therefore, the government and the corporates must address the issue of integration, infrastructure development and information management to achieve the objective of a feasible agricultural sector which will lead to food security for all

    Use of Geoprocessing in Identification of Areas Suitable for the Implementation of Center Pivot Irrigation in the District of Mossurrize, in Republic of Mozambique

    With population growth, there is an increase in the demand for food, making irrigation an important technology for this purpose. Therefore, planning, and technical knowledge of environmental variables are essential for the implementation of irrigation, facilitated by geoprocessing techniques, which can help in decision-making, mainly due to the ability and ease of working large areas. The objective of this study is to analyze areas with potential for the implementation of a center pivot irrigation system in the district of Mossurrize. The analysis was carried out using geoprocessing tools through QGIS 2.3.20.0 and ArcGIS software. The methodology considers the combined analysis of different information plans to generate a synthesis map. The information plan variables were reclassified with weights from 1 to 9, demonstrating the influence of each element on the considered phenomenon. Then the variable maps were submitted to weighted analysis. The tools for spatial analysis through geoprocessing proved to be efficient in the manipulation and integration of the data used to identify and quantify the areas suitable for the implantation of a center pivot irrigation system and may be a viable alternative for decision making
