This paper investigated the perceptions of undergraduate students regarding usability and usefulness of Digital Libraries. A case study was conducted to explore the use of Digital Library (DL) resources in ten undergraduate classes at Shaheed Benazir Butto Women University Peshawar and identified students\u27 perceptions regarding educational digital libraries. Data was collected through survey method using qualitative tools such as observation and interviews. The study examined that university provides internet facility to all students and they have ample access for using Digital libraries but majority of the students are not aware of the use of DLs. Only research students are using digital libraries and most of them use it for research purpose while other using open Web sources for visual and multimedia purpose. Furthermore students did not recognize academic libraries as a useful source for digital images and used various search browsers while searching for visual resources. Students stated that the digital library websites are difficult to navigate and insufficient in providing signs about the richness of resources that it offers. Students’ experiences regarding the use of library website badly affected their perceptions about digital services

OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this study were to compare the efficacy and safety of Tolperisone tablets 50 mg three times daily versus Tizanidine 2 mg tablets thrice daily for the treatment of acute low back pain with muscle spasm. METHODS: The comparative study was carried out in 50 patients from orthopedics Dr. Pinnamaneni Siddhartha Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Foundation, Vijayawada. Only those patients fulfilling the inclusion/exclusion criteria were enrolled into the study. Participants suffering from acute low back pain with muscle spasm were divided into two groups. The participants were followed up on Day-14 as final analysis. RESULTS: Subjects receiving Tolperisone showed a mean value of 16.43±1.16 in the Roland Morris low back pain and disability questionnaire both groups on day 1 and was reduced to 7.82±1.15 (51.94%) on day 7 and 2.56±1.53 (84.46%) on day 14. Similarly, the patients in the tizanidine group had mean value of 15.93±1.61 on day 1, which was reduced to 6.77±1.68 (57.64%) on day 7, and 2.88±1.92 (81.95%) on day 14, as comparable to the Tolperisone group. There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups, (p>0.05) for pain at rest, pain at night, restrictions of movement, changes in stiffness, changes in numbness, and changes in tenderness. There was a statistically significant difference between the two groups, (p<0.05) for pain on movement and kinesalgia. CONCLUSIONS: Tolperisone was found comparable in efficacy to Tizanidine in improving the clinical symptoms of changes in pain Self-assessment by the patient on different applied parameters

Geographic Routing in Clustered Wireless Sensor Network

A WSN is a network of gadgets that is known as nodes. It consists of sensor nodes distributed over a geographical area. The main task of a sensor node is to sense and collect data from certain domain, process them and transmit it to the sink where the application lies. Clustering provides a productive way to prolong the lifetime of WSN. In this paper, we first propose a distributed technique called energy efficient homogenous clustering technique that selects cluster heads to create a connected backbone network. EHC selects CHs on the basis of their residual energy and utility of sensor to its neighbors. Then we propose a route optimization technique in WSNs to make the best use of routing path among obstacles using Dijkstra’s shortest path algorithm. The simulation results show a reduction in average hop count, packet delay, and energy consumption of WSNs

Background: Blood donor base is the foundation of any blood transfusion system. Donor screening plays an important role in ensuring the safety of the blood supply.1 This study was undertaken with the aim to screen the blood donor’s demographic profile as male, female voluntary and replacement blood donors and to estimate seroprevalence of HIV, HBV, HCV and VDRL transmissible by blood transfusion in voluntary and replacement male and female blood donors during the last 5 year period. Methods: The present study was conducted over a period of 5 years (2001-2005) and involved 1,53,020 blood donors including both (voluntary, replacement males and females) who were thoroughly screened and selected for blood donation in blood bank at Departments of Pathology, Seth GS Medical College and KEM hospital, Mumbai. We determine among blood donors by their donor type (voluntary and replacement type) and gender wise. Results: The total number of blood donors in five years period was 1,53,020 (100%). Maximum number of voluntary  blood donors 1,00,316 (65.55%), followed by replacement blood donors 52,704 (34.33%).The overwhelming majority of donors in entire 5 years period was of male, comprising 1,36,195 (89.0%), while the female donors comprised of 16825 (10.99%).Conclusions: The maximum number of donors are voluntary males (55.69%) followed by replacement males (33.30%). Our results indicate that the number of female blood donors were less in comparison to male blood donors, so proper health education is required for female blood donors

Background: Low back pain (LBP), a high prevalent condition, is usually associated with 'muscle spasm' that is responsible for giving rise to pain. Eperisone hydrochloride is widely used for treatment associated muscle stiffness and pain. The aim of the study was to compare the efficacy and safety of eperisone tablets 50 mg three times daily versus tizanidine 2 mg tablets thrice daily for the treatment of low back pain with muscle spasm. Methods: The study was carried in 50 patients from a private hospital at Mumbai. Only patients satisfying the inclusion criteria were enrolled into the study. Subjects suffering from low back pain with spasm were divided in two groups. The patients were then followed up on Day-14.Results: Patients receiving eperisone showed a mean value of 16.48±1.15 in the Roland Morris low back pain and disability questionnaire both groups on day 1 and was reduced to 7.92±1.15 (51.94%) on day 7 and 2.56±1.53 (84.46%) on day 14. Similarly, the patients in tizanidine group had mean value of 15.96±1.62 on day 1, which was reduced to 6.76±1.66 (57.64%) on day 7, and 2.88±1.92 (81.95%) on day 14, as similar to eperisone group. There was no statistical significant difference between the two groups, (p>0.05) for pain at rest, pain at night, restriction of movement, changes in stiffness, changes in numbness and changes in tenderness. There was statistical significant difference between the two groups, (p<0.05) for pain on movement and kinesalgia. Conclusions: Eperisone was found to be comparable to Tizanidine in improving the signs and symptoms of changes in pain Self-assessment by the patient on different applied parameters

Modeling and Design of AlN Based SAW Device and Effect of Reflected Bulk Acoustic Wave Generated in the Device

    Get PDF
Investigations of the effect of generation and reflection of bulk acoustic waves (BAWs) on the performance surface acoustic wave (SAW) device using finite element method (FEM) simulation is carried out. A SAW delay line structure using Aluminum Nitride (AlN) substrate is simulated. The dimension of the device is kept in the range of the 42 22.5 m in order to analyze the effect in MEMS devices. The propagation of the bulk wave in all the direction of the substrate is studied and analyzed. Since BAW reflect from the bottom of the SAW device and interfere with the receiving IDTs. The output of the SAW device is greatly affected by the interference of the BAW with SAWs in the device. Thus in SAW devices, BAW needed to be considered before designing the device.
