    Anti-inflammatory activity of hydroalcoholic extract of mimosa pudica whole plant in rats

    Background: Mimosa pudica is a traditionally used folk medicine to treat various disorders like infections, anxiety, depression, bleeding disorders, convulsions, rheumatoid arthritis, muscular pain, asthma, snake bite etc. We evaluated the anti-inflammatory activity of hydroalcoholic extract of Mimosa pudica whole plant (HAEMPWP) in rats.Methods: HAEMPWP was prepared using Soxhlets apparatus. Acute toxicity tests were done with HAEMPWP given orally to albino rats in increasing doses up to 3200 mg/ kg body weight. The anti-inflammatory action was evaluated by Carrageenan induced paw edema method. Thirty albino rats were grouped into five groups and each contained six rats. Group I (control group) received distilled water orally. Group II (standard) received Aspirin orally dissolved in distilled water. Groups III, IV and V received HAEMPWP in doses of 200 mg/kg, 400 mg/kg and 800mg/kg orally dissolved in distilled water. Data analysis was done by one way ANOVA and unpaired t test using SPSS 16 for windows.Results: HAEMPWP showed a significant anti-inflammatory activity as compared to control. There was no statistically significant dose dependent increase in the anti-inflammatory activity.Conclusions: HAEMPWP possesses significant anti-inflammatory activity and could be an effective treatment option for various inflammatory conditions

    A review of optimal operation of microgrids

    The term microgrid refers to small-scale power grid that can operate autonomously or in concurrence with the area’s main electrical grid. The intermittent characteristic of DGs which defies the power quality and voltage manifests the requirement for new planning and operation approaches for microgrids. Consequently, conventional optimization methods in new power systems have been critically biased all through the previous decade. One of the main technological and inexpensive tools in this regard is the optimal generation scheduling of microgrid. As a primary optimization tool in the planning and operation fields, optimal operation has an undeniable part in the power system. This paper reviews and evaluates the optimal operation approaches mostly related to microgrids. In this work, the foremost optimal generation scheduling approaches are compared in terms of their objective functions, techniques and constraints. To conclude, a few fundamental challenges occurring from the latest optimal generation scheduling techniques in microgrids are addressed

    Microstrip antenna with DGS based on CSRR array for WiMAX applications

    This paper reports a novel method for designing a miniaturized microstrip antenna with DGS based on CSRR array which operates in the frequency of 2.6GHz for low band WiMAX application. The proposed antenna is designed using ANSYS HFSS simulation software. The antenna with optimized parameters is fabricated using FR-4 substrate of thickness 1.6 mm. The simulated and measured performances of the antenna in terms of return loss, directivity and radiation patterns are presented in this work. When Complimentary Split Ring Resonators (CSRRs) array are placed on the ground plane, the resonant frequency is shifted  to a lower value and patch size is reduced .The measurements were taken and compared with the simulated results. The performance characteristics obtained from the measurements show that the proposed antenna is suited for WiMAX application at 2.6GHz

    Depth Segmentation Method for Cancer Detection in Mammography Images

    Breast cancer detection remains a subject matter of intense and also a stream that will create a path for numerous debates. Mammography has long been the mainstay of breast cancer detection and is the only screening test proven to reduce mortality. Computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) systems have the potential to assist radiologists in the early detection of cancer. Many techniques were introduced based on SVM classifier, spatial and frequency domain, active contour method, k-NN clustering method but these methods have so many disadvantages on the SNR ratio, efficiency etc. The quality of detection of cancer cells is dependent with the segmentation of the mammography image. Here a new method is proposed for segmentation. This algorithm focuses to segment the image depth wise and also coloured based segmentation is implemented. Here the feature identification and detection of malignant and benign cells are done more easily and also to increase the efficiency to detect the early stages of breast cancer through mammography images. In which the relative signal enhancement technique is also done for high dynamic range images. Markovian random function can be used in the depth segmentation. Markov Random Field (MRF) is used in mammography images. It is because this method can model intensity in homogeneities occurring in these images.     IFRS convergence: opportunities and challenges in India

    Past decade has witnessed several changes in the process of conduct of business activities across the world especially due to the wave of globalization. It has also made drastic changes in the process of financial reporting, in particular the continuing adoption of IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) worldwide. IFRS are high quality, understandable, enforceable and globally acceptable accounting standards issued by IASB (International Accounting Standard Board). Thus these are a set of international accounting standards stating how a particular type of transaction and other events should be reported in the financial statements. Thus IFRS are designed as a common global language for business affairs so that company accounts are understandable and comparable across international boundaries. IFRS is becoming the global language of business with over 40% of the world adopting this as their standard for reporting. India also decided to converge to IFRS from 1st April 2016 in a phased manner, which in turn improves the financial statement comparability and transparency that helps to attract greater cross border investments. This paper focuses on the convergence of IFRS with Indian Accounting Standards, its utility, issues and challenges faced by the stakeholders.     A prospective study on the association between serum albumin and short term clinical outcome in acute ischemic stroke

    OBJECTIVE: To study the prevalence of hypoalbuminemia in acute ischemic stroke and to determine the association between serum albumin and short term clinical outcome in acute ischemic stroke. METHODS: 60 patients with acute ischemic stroke were recruited from the medical wards of Government Kilpauk Medical College. Serum albumin was measured at admission. The severity of stroke at admission was assessed using the NIHSS scale. The short term clinical outcome was assessed at the end of one week using MRS scale. Hypoalbuminemia was defined as serum albumin less than 3.5g/dl for the purpose of study. RESULTS: 60 participants were included in the study. There were 29 females in the study group. The mean age of the study population was 62.37. 61.6% of the individuals had diabetes and 66.6% had hypertension. The prevalence of hypoalbuminemia in the studypopulation was estimated to be 40%. 78.6% of those with hypoalbuminemia recorded a severe stroke in the NIHSS scale and 76.7% of those with hypoalbuminemia had a poor short term clinical outcome in the MRS scale. Serum albumin was found to have a significant association with severity of stroke and short term clinical outcome. Those with hypoalbuminemia had a poorer outcome (MRS > 3). CONCLUSION: Prevalence of hypoalbuminemia in acute ischemic stroke was 40%. There was a significant association between serum albumin and short term clinical outcome in stroke.
