In this study the digestive system content of totaly 156 Acanthobrama marmid Heckel, 1843 caught from Euphrates between January 2005 and December 2005 have been examined. In the content of digestive system of examined A. marmid Heckel, 1843, Bacillariophyta (24 genera), Chlorophyta (11 genera), Cyanophyta (10 genera) and Chrysophyta (1 genus) belong to plants and Rotifera (10 genera), Amphipoda (1 genus), Cladocera (1 genus) and Copepoda (1 genus) belong to animals have been found. The seasonal, annual, length and weight groups distribution of the organisims were examined by using the percent of total number and percent of frequency of occurence with Geometric Index of Importance (GII) method. At the end of study, the rations in total organism number were Bacillariophyta (76.27 %), Chlorophyta (9.29 %), Cyanophyta (6.26 %), Rotifera (6.11 %), Amphipoda (0.89 %), Chrysophyta (0.76 %), Copepoda (0.25 %) and Cladocera (0.17 %) respectively

Riccia fluitans, whose common name is crystalwort, is an aquatic floating plant of the liverwort genus Riccia which is popular among aquarist plants. It can be found floating in ponds, and often forms thick mats on and under the water surface. The objective of this study made to determine the antioxidant activities of Riccia fluitans using different in vitro methods. For evaluation of antioxidant and antiradical activities, ABTS•+ (2,2´-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)) radical scavenging activity, DPPH• (1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl) free radical scavenging activity, reducing power, and ferrous ions chelating activities were calculated. α-tocopherol were used as the reference antioxidant compound. In addition, the total phenolic and total flavonoid compounds in ethanol extracts were determined as gallic acid and quercetin equivalents, respectively. Consequently, this plant is a promising source of natural food antioxidants

Bu araştırmayla bölgedeki polenlerin biyolojik değeri ve besin kalitesi hakkında bilgi edinilebileceği ve bu araştırma sonuçlarının literatür bilgisine katkıda bulunabileceği düşünülmektedirIn this study, fatty acid compounds in the bee pollens collected from five different locations of Bingöl were investigated. A total of 27 samples of polen, each 4 of which taken from 5 different places, were examined. Pollen samples were extracted and extractions were analyzed by gas choromatography (GC). According to results, while significant difference in the amount of palmitic acid (C16:0) and stearic acid (C18:0) oleic acid (C18:1n-9) and γ – linolenic acid (C18:3n-6) were found, the amounts of palmitoleic acid ( C16:1n-7), linoleic acid (C18:2n-6), α – linolenic acid (C18:3n-3), saturated fatty acids (SFA), monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) were not found significant (p>0.05). As a result, it was found that the unsaturated-to-saturated fatty acids ratio (TUFA/SFA ratio) in the pollen samples examined ranged from 1.57 to 1.92 and essential fatty acids appeared to be mixture of α-linolenic acid and γ- linolenic acid, 33% and linoleic acid 10 %, respectively of the total fatty acids. It can be thought that with this study one can get information about biological value and nutritional quality of the pollen grains in the this region and this investigation will have an important effect on improvement of the knowledge of that area

In this study, the effects of the two Schiff base derivatives and their metal complexes were tested for MDA concentration, which is an indicator of lipid peroxidation, antioxidant vitamin A, vitamin E, and vitamin C levels in cell culture. A comparison was performed among the groups and it was observed that MDA, vitamin A, vitamin E, and vitamin C concentrations were statistically changed. According to the results, all compounds caused a significant oxidative stress without Zn complexes. Moreover, Mn(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), and Ni(II) complexes of Schiff bases derived from a condensation of 1,2-bis (p-aminophenoxy) ethane with naphthaldehydes and 4-methoxy benzaldehyde were examined in terms of antitumor activity against MCF-7 human breast cancer and L1210 murine leukemia cells. Furthermore, the derivatives were tested for antioxidative and prooxidative effects on MCF-7 breast cancer cells. The compounds which were tested revealed that there was an antitumor activity for MCF-7 and L 1210 cancer cells. Also, some of the compounds induced oxidative harmful
