Light Higgsinos for Electroweak Naturalness in Mirage-mediated High-scale Supersymmetry

Mirage mediation realized in the KKLT flux compactification can naturally suppress the up-type Higgs soft mass at low energy scales, and consequently it can reduce the degree of electroweak fine-tuning up to a loop factor. Interestingly, this feature holds even in high-scale supersymmetry as long as the gauge coupling unification is achieved for light Higgsinos below TeV. Under the experimental constraints on the observed Higgs boson, it turns out that mirage mediation can exhibit low electroweak fine-tuning better than a few percent for stops between about 2 and 6 TeV, i.e., at the same level as in the weak scale supersymmetry, if the Higgsinos are around or below a few hundred GeV.Comment: 1+14 pages, 3 figure

A Plan for Founding a Christian Alternative School as a Type of Youth Ministry in Korea with a Rationale for Church-Sponsored Christian Schools

    Get PDF
This study aims to contribute to the change of the prime age-centered traditional pastoral ministries present in Korean churches for the future generation-centered ministries. The researcher\u27s church, too, has an inverted triangular structure under which the future generations disappear. To overcome this, this study sets up a model of new growth for the future generations. The researcher analyzes and evaluates the cause of the problem of decreasing youth in Korean churches. The researcher will do mentoring work in the special environment of alternative schools so that the youth may have sound faith and not leave the church even after they proceed to post-secondary education. Layperson teachers will be trained and cultivated so that they have expertise in cooperative ministry as well as academic subjects. The researcher proposes a new solution for a church that grows healthily by investing funds and supporting personnel in youth ministry through an alternative school, attempting to change the inverted triangular structure of the church

Mixed modulus and anomaly mediation in light of the muon g2g-2 anomaly

The new measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment of muon at the Fermilab Muon g2g-2 experiment has strengthened the significance of the discrepancy between the standard model prediction and the experimental observation from the BNL measurement. If new physics responsible for the muon g2g-2 anomaly is supersymmetric, one should consider how to obtain light electroweakinos and sleptons in a systematic way. The gauge coupling unification allows a robust prediction of the gaugino masses, indicating that the electroweakinos can be much lighter than the gluino if anomaly-mediated supersymmetry breaking is sizable. As naturally leading to mixed modulus-anomaly mediation, the KKLT scenario is of particular interest and is found capable of explaining the muon g2g-2 anomaly in the parameter region where the lightest ordinary supersymmetric particle is a bino-like neutralino or slepton.Comment: 1+29 pages, 5 figures, 1 table; references added, matches published versio

Continuous-Variable Nonclassicality Detection under Coarse-Grained Measurement

Coarse graining is a common imperfection of realistic quantum measurement, obstructing the direct observation of quantum features. Under highly coarse-grained measurement, we experimentally detect the continuous-variable nonclassicality of both Gaussian and non-Gaussian states. Remarkably, we find that this coarse-grained measurement outperforms the conventional fine-grained measurement for nonclassicality detection: it detects nonclassicality beyond the reach of the variance criterion, and furthermore, it exhibits stronger statistical significance than the high-order moments method. Our work shows the usefulness of coarse-grained measurement by providing a reliable and efficient way of nonclassicality detection for quantum technologies

On the Relationship between Self-Reported Physical Health and Social Networks : Among Korean Junior High School Students

This paper tried to examine the relationship between social network patterns and physical health statuses among junior high school students in Korea with three distinctive characteristics with compared to many previous studies. First, based on two-year panel data of Korean Youth Panel Survey, it tried to control for unobserved heterogeneity that might have been exerting effects on students' health but could not have been included in the survey. Furthermore, instead of typical random model of anel data, it employed a modified random model that examined each coefficient to decide if we could treat 'between' effect same as 'within' effect. Thanks to this modified model, we could detect getting along with friends at school had only 'between' effect without statistically significant 'within' effect. Lastly, by including self-perceived psychological problem in the regression, we examined the possibility of direct network effects on physical health. The results revealed that in each of three social dimensions (school, family, and friends) direct effects of network existed on physical health of junior high school students. Especially, cohesive and frequent interacting with friends rather than simple popularity among friends was closely related with physical health. This research is financially supported by National Cancer Institute (Grant # 5 P50 CA106743)

Effect of the Phosphorus Gettering on Si Heterojunction Solar Cells

    Get PDF
To improve the efficiency of crystalline silicon solar cells, should be collected the excess carrier as much as possible. Therefore, minimizing the recombination both at the bulk and surface regions is important. Impurities make recombination sites and they are the major reason for recombination. Phosphorus (P) gettering was introduced to reduce metal impurities in the bulk region of Si wafers and then to improve the efficiency of Si heterojunction solar cells fabricated on the wafers. Resistivity of wafers was measured by a four-point probe method. Fill factor of solar cells was measured by a solar simulator. Saturation current and ideality factor were calculated from a dark current density-voltage graph. External quantum efficiency was analyzed to assess the effect of P gettering on the performance of solar cells. Minority bulk lifetime measured by microwave photoconductance decay increases from 368.3 to 660.8 mu s. Open-circuit voltage and short-circuit current density increase from 577 to 598 mV and 27.8 to 29.8mA/cm(2), respectively. The efficiency of solar cells increases from 11.9 to 13.4%. P gettering will be feasible to improve the efficiency of Si heterojunction solar cells fabricated on P-doped Si wafers.open1

Complete response to FOLFOX4 therapy in a patient with advanced urothelial cancer: a case report

    Get PDF
No standard has been established for salvage therapy in gemcitabine refractory advanced urothelial cancer. We report the complete response to FOLFOX4 therapy of a metastatic urothelial cancer patient, for whom adjuvant gemcitabine plus cisplatin combination chemotherapy had failed. A 54-year-old male patient with urothelial cancer (transitional cell carcinoma) in the right kidney underwent three rounds of adjuvant gemcitabine-cisplatin chemotherapy after extensive radical nephrectomy. However, he had new liver, lung metastases and synchronous two separate primary colon cancer. The lung metastasis lesion was confirmed as a metastatic urothelial cancer via percutaneous transthoracic needle biopsy (PTNB). Liver and lung metastasis lesions disappeared after the 4th cycle of FOLFOX4 chemotherapy. In addition, colon cancer also disappeared after the 8th cycle of FOLFOX4 chemotherapy. The patient was still showing a complete response after 4 months. Clinical trials using the FOLFOX regimen as salvage therapy for gemcitabine-refractory advanced urothelial cancer are warranted
