    Shear bond strength fissure sealant based on glass ionomer after topical fluor application: a comparison between sodium fluoride and acidulated phosphate fluoride

    Background: Application of fissure sealants to young permanent teeth is one of the preventive measures for caries in the field of dentistry. Fissure sealants based on glass ionomer cement (GIC) have the advantage of releasing fluoride. Sodium fluoride and acidulated phosphate fluoride (APF) are remineralization agents because they can increase remineralization by altering hydroxyapatite to fluorapatite and this in turn makes fluorine able to increase pH. Fluoride can prevent caries by increasing remineralization of the enamel that has just been demineralized by acids produced by plaque bacteria. The aim of this study is to compare the shear bond strength fissure sealant based on glass ionomer between sodium fluoride and APF topical fluor applicationMethod: This research applied true experimental design with post test only control group design. The 21 maxillary permanent premolars were distributed into 3 groups, namely the control group (K1), the treatment group added 5% sodium fluoride (K2), and the treatment group added 1.23% APF (K3). Result: One Way ANOVA and post hoc LSD analysis test displayed no significant difference in each group. This could be due to the material used as a conditioner prior to the GIC application. The addition of fluoride ions will inhibit the demineralization process of the enamel produced by the application of conditioner. So it does not rule out that it will interfere with the attachment of the GIC material used as a fissure sealant in this research.Conclusion: There was no significant difference in shear bond strength of fissure sealant based on glass ionomer between sodium fluoride and acidulated phosphate fluoride topical application

    The novel, Guy Mannering, reflects a universal urge for law and justice. The main focus of the writer's analysis of this novel is on the restoration of a lost heir to his identity and property by the main characters, Meg Merrilies and Paulus Pleydell. The heir's rights have been seized since his childhood by a bad lawyer, Gilbert Glossin. He even tries to kill the heir in order to fulfil his ambition, that is pursuing the heir's estate. However, through the hands of Meg Merrilies and Paulus Pleydell, the lost heir finally is able to get his rights back. The thesis writer is curious to know why Meg Merrilies and Paulus Pleydell want to achieve justice for the lost heir. The discussion of this thesis begins with the description of Meg Merrilies' and Paulus Pleydell's character traits, proceeds to the motivation that lead them to decide to help the lost heir, and ends with their efforts in achieving justice which shows that they are really the champions of justice. Meg Merrilies' sacrifice in restoring the heir's true identity and Paulus Pleydell's ambition in solving the heir's problems makes the thesis writer conclude that their good character traits have the greatest influence in their achievement of justice for the lost heir as the rightful heir

    Background. Sudden deafness is an emergency in the Ear Nose Throat Department, a subset of sensorineural hearing loss within a 72-hour window period and consists of a decrease in hearing of 30 decibels affecting at least three consecutive frequencies. The therapy given is corticosteroids, systemic corticosteroids or intratympanic corticosteroids injection, or both. The prognosis of sudden deafness depends on several factors. Patient with sudden hearing loss does not always have the same result in hearing improvement. This study was aimed to determine the factors that affect the results of intratympanic corticosteroid injection therapy in patients with sudden deafness.Methods. This study is an observational study with a cross-sectional design. The data were collected using medical records on 96 ears given intratympanic corticosteroid injection therapy at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang from July 2018 to February 2021.Results. From 96 ears conducted in the study, the improvement of therapeutic results on intratympanic corticosteroid injection in patients with sudden deafness was 72.9%. The study found factors that influenced the outcome of therapy, namely age (p=0.002), the onset of therapy (p = 0.003), and the use of a combination of systemic steroids (p=0.010). From the logistic regression test, it was found that the factors that most influenced the results of intratympanic corticosteroid injection therapy were young age 18-40 years (p=0.016) with (OR) 6.654 (CI95% 1.418-31.222) and therapy onset less than two weeks (p=0.027) with (OR) 3.108 (95% CI 1.134-8.515).Conclusions. The factors associated with the improvement in the outcome of intratympanic corticosteroid injection therapy in patients with sudden hearing loss were patient age and early onset of therapy

    Papuloerythroderma of Ofuji: A first case report from Indonesia

    Papuloerythroderma (PE) is a rare skin disease which was first described by Ofuji et al. in 1984, with a typical sign that the lesions spare the large cutaneous folds, known as the deck chair sign. Due to its recent identification, this disease is still underrecognized and may lead to misdiagnosis. We reported the first case report of PE of Ofuji from Indonesia in which the diagnosis was delayed for two years. Besides the deck chair sign in the large cutaneous fold, we also found that the area between and above his eyebrows that was relatively spared in contrast to the sparing of the cutaneous folds, and it may be considered as pseudo-deck chair sign. The patient showed good response with combination therapy of phototherapy with Narrow-Band Ultraviolet B (NBUVB), oral methotrexate, and corticosteroids. The deck chair sign disappeared after six months therapy, but the patient’s skin was still xerotic
