    A reevaluation of the 2MASS zero points using CALSPEC spectrophotometry complemented with Gaia Data Release 2 parallaxes

    CONTEXT. 2MASS is the reference survey in the NIR part of the spectrum given its whole-sky coverage, large dynamic range, and proven calibration uniformity. However, previous studies disagree in the value of the zero points (ZPs) for its three bands JHK at the hundredth of a magnitude level. The disagreement should become more noticeable now that Gaia provides whole-sky optical photometry calibrated below that level. AIMS. We want to establish the value of the 2MASS ZPs based on NICMOS/HST spectrophotometry of the CALSPEC standard stars and test it with the help of Gaia DR2 parallaxes. METHODS. We have computed the synthetic JHK photometry for a sample of stars using the HST CALSPEC spectroscopic standards and compared it with their 2MASS magnitudes to evaluate the ZPs. We have tested our results by analysing a sample of FGK dwarfs with excellent 2MASS photometry and accurate Gaia DR2 parallaxes.} RESULTS. The Vega ZPs for 2MASS J, H, and K are found to be -0.025±\pm0.005 mag, 0.004±\pm0.005 mag, and -0.015±\pm0.005 mag, respectively.     Developmental profiles of young children with autism spectrum disorder and global developmental delay: A study with the Griffiths III scales

    The purpose of this study was to identify developmental profiles associated with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and global developmental delay (DD) in pre-school aged Italian children. Developmental profiles were evaluated by means of a standardized tool widely used for the assessment of psychomotor development in early childhood, the Griffiths III scales, recently adapted and standardized for the Italian population. Specifically, we compared the Griffiths III profiles of children with ASD and DD (ASD + DD) with those of children with DD alone. Moreover, we inspected the psychometric function of single items by comparing children with ASD + DD and children with DD with typically developing (TD) children from the Griffiths III normative sample. In this way, we aimed to isolate the effects of each diagnostic class on psychomotor abilities and on the psychometric function of single items. The ASD + DD and DD groups were found to share the presence of lower age equivalent scores relative to their chronological age in all the developmental domains considered: Foundations of Learning, Language and Communication, Eye and Hand Coordination, Personal–Social-Emotional and Gross Motor Skills. However, the DD group displayed a homogeneous profile with similar levels of delay in all developmental domains, while children with ASD + DD exhibited relative weaknesses in the Language and Communication and Personal–Social-Emotional scales. The analysis of the psychometric function drawn for each item has confirmed different profiles in social-communicative and non-verbal items between the two diagnostic groups and in relation to TD normative sample. The Griffiths III is a valid psychometric tool for identifying atypical developmental profiles and its use may be recommended during the diagnostic process of ASD and DD, to detect specific strengths and weaknesses and guide person-centered treatment

    Some adults of Pseudimares aphrodite H. Asp?ck et U. Asp?ck, 2009 were observed and photographed while attracted by light in Southern Morocco, in August 2009 and 2011. Only the typus of this species, a male, was known previously from South Morocco too. Moreover the genus Pseudimares Kimmins, 1933 is perhaps the most enigmatic taxon among Neuroptera Myrmeleontidae.     Accurate consideration of metal losses at waveguide junctions using admittance and impedance integral equation formulations

    [EN] At higher frequencies, metal loss effects in passive waveguide components become more pronounced and hazardous. In this paper, we propose two integral equation techniques, based on the generalized admittance and impedance matrices, for the accurate consideration of losses in the metal walls of waveguide junctions. Both techniques have been evaluated in terms of accuracy and numerical efficiency, and conclusions are drawn regarding the best properties of the admittance parameter formulation.     The IACOB project VIII. Searching for empirical signatures of binarity in fast-rotating O-type stars

    The empirical distribution of projected rotational velocities (vsini) in massive O-type stars is characterized by a dominant slow velocity component and a tail of fast rotators. Binary interaction has been proposed to play a dominant role in the formation of this tail. We perform a complete and homogeneous search for empirical signatures of binarity in a sample of 54 fast-rotating stars with the aim of evaluating this hypothesis. This working sample has been extracted from a larger sample of 415 Galactic O-type stars which covers the full range of vsini values. We use new and archival multi-epoch spectra in order to detect spectroscopic binary systems. We complement this information with Gaia proper motions and TESS photometric data to aid in the identification of runaway stars and eclipsing binaries, respectively. The identified fraction of single-lined spectroscopic binary (SB1) systems and apparently single stars among the fast-rotating sample is \sim18% and \sim70%, respectively. When comparing these percentages with those corresponding to the slow-rotating sample we find that our sample of fast rotators is characterized by a slightly larger percentage of SB1 systems (\sim18% vs. \sim13%) and a considerably smaller fraction of clearly detected SB2 systems (8% vs. 33%). Overall, there seems to be a clear deficit of spectroscopic binaries (SB1+SB2) among fast-rotating O-type stars (\sim26% vs. \sim46%). On the contrary, the fraction of runaway stars is significantly higher in the fast-rotating domain (\sim33-50%) than among those stars with vsini < 200 km/s. Lastly, almost 65% of the apparently single fast-rotating stars are runaways. Our empirical results seem to be in good agreement with the idea that the tail of fast-rotating O-type stars (with vsini > 200 km/s) is mostly populated by post-interaction binary products.Comment: 33 pages, 16 figures, accepted for publication in "Astronomy and Astrophysics
