I discuss the 21st century expectation of managing one's online presence and then leverage that presence online through the creation of a personal website designed to display one's knowledge, expertise and career highlights. After describing these 21st century expectations, I then apply the uses and gratifications theory and discuss how web users employ personal websites to enhance knowledge and social interactions. Finally, I describe the process of creating my own personal brand online and use measurable statistics through Weebly Analytics and Twitter to measure content distribution and engagement.M.A. (Master of Arts

    Aerosol modulation of ultraviolet radiation dose over four metro cities in india

    This paper discusses the influence of aerosols on UV erythemal dose over four metro cities in India. Tropospheric Emission Monitoring Internet Service (TEMIS), archived UV-index (UV-I), and UV daily erythemal dose obtained from SCIAMACHY satellite were used in this study during June 2004 and May 2005 periods covering four important Indian seasons. UV-Index (UV-I), an important parameter representing UV risk, was found to be in the high to extreme range in Chennai (8.1 to 15.33), moderate to extreme range in Mumbai and Kolkata (5 to 16.5), and low to extreme over Delhi (3 to 15). Average UV erythemal dose showed seasonal variation from 5.9 to 6.3 KJm-2 during summer, 2.9 to 4.4 KJm-2 during postmonsoon, 3 to 4.5 KJm-2 during winter, and 5.1 to 6.19 KJm-2 during premonsoon seasons over the four cities. To estimate the influence of aerosols on reducing UV dose, UV aerosol radiative forcing and forcing efficiency were estimated over the sites. The average aerosol forcing efficiency was found to be from - 1.38 ± 0.33 to - 3.01 ± 0.28 KJm-2 AOD-1 on different seasons.     Conservative management for urinary incontinence in neurological patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis

    Aim: To summarize evidence from a search and review of the 7th International Consultation on Incontinence chapter’s section on conservative treatments in neurological patients. Methods: Searching the Cochrane Incontinence Specialised Register (MEDLINE, CENTRAL, others) on August 2nd, 2022. Quality and certainty evidence were assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool and the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation. Results: After screening 5416 records, 40 trials with 2751 participants were included and stratified according to the site and nature of the neurological disease: (1) Brain disorders n = 22; (2) Spinal cord disorders n = 3; (3) Multiple sclerosis (MS) n = 13; (4) Mixed types of neurological diseases n = 2. Pooled analysis from trials in participants with brain disorders showed that, compared to no active treatment, electrical stimulation (EStim) improved UI episodes per day based on very low certainty evidence and improved UI symptom measures based on moderate certainty evidence. Further, compared to usual care, toilet assistance improved neurological quality of life (QoL) measures based on moderate certainty evidence. Pooled analysis from trials in participants with MS showed that, compared to pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) alone, PFMT plus EStim was effective for improving the number of UI episodes per day based on moderate certainty evidence. Conclusion: Our review shows that neurological patients could benefit from conservative interventions to improve symptoms of UI, and QoL. Further well-designed trials with larger cohorts and longer-term follow-up are needed given the limited studies in this population

    Assessment and validation of i-skyradiometer retrievals using broadband flux and MODIS data

    Ground-based network of cloud measurements is presently limited and there exists uncertainty in the cloud microphysical parameters derived from ground-based measurements. Bias in the i-skyradiometer derived cloud optical depth () and droplet effective radius () and the importance of these parameters in the parameterization of clouds in climate models have made us intend to develop a possible method for improving these parameters. A new combination method, which uses zenith sky transmittance and surface radiation measurements, has been proposed in the present study to improve the retrievals. The i-skyradiometer derived parameters and have been provided as a first guess to a radiative transfer model (SBDART) and a new retrieval algorithm has been implemented to obtain the best combination of and having minimum bias (−0.09 and −2.5) between the simulated global and diffuse fluxes at the surface with the collocated surface radiation measurements. The new retrieval method has improved and values compared to those derived using the transmittance only method and are in good agreement with the MODIS satellite retrievals. The study therefore suggests a possible improvement of the i-skyradiometer derived cloud parameters using observed radiation fluxes and a radiative transfer model

    Gut dysfunction in patients with multiple sclerosis and the role of spinal cord involvement in the disease.

    Bowel and bladder symptoms are highly prevalent in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). Bladder dysfunction (affecting 75% of these patients) is caused by disease in the spinal cord, whilst the pathophysiology of bowel dysfunction is unknown. Pathways regulating both the organs lie in close proximity to the spinal cord, and coexistence of their dysfunction might be the result of a common pathophysiology. If so, the prevalence of bladder symptoms should be greater in patients with MS and bowel symptoms. This hypothesis is tested in the study.     The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution has been using deepsea moored buoys for acquiring serial observations of ocean currents, temperature .and other data for over twelve years. A brief description of the deep-sea mooring program is given. The mooring statistics and performance are described. Mooring failures of 1970 and 1971 have been categorized and statistics on the modes and causes of failures are presented. The reliabilities of different types of moorings are computed and compared. The role of radio telemetry for the real-time measurement of mooring line tension and its use in checking the mooring status are discussed. Examples of potential design data like tension and currents recorded by moorings that failed are provided.     Radiative forcing of black carbon over Delhi

    The radiative effects of black carbon (BC) aerosols over New Delhi, the capital city of India, for the period August 2010–July 2011, have been investigated using Santa Barbara DISTORT Atmospheric Radiative Transfer (SBDART) model in the present paper. The monthly mean BC concentrations in Delhi, an urban location, vary in between 15.935 ± 2.06 μg m−3 (December 2010)–2.44 ± 0.58 μg m−3 (July 2011). The highest value for monthly mean BC forcing has been found to be in November 2010 (66.10 ± 6.86 Wm−2) and the lowest in July 2011 (23 ± 3.89 Wm−2). Being the host city for the XIX Commonwealth Games (CWG-2010), government of Delhi set up a plan to reduce emissions of air pollutants during Games, from 03 October to 14 October, 2010. But opposite to the expectations, the emission controls implemented were not sufficient to reduce the pollutants like black carbon (BC), and therefore relatively a high value of BC radiative forcing (44.36 ± 2.4) was observed during the month of October 201
