Experiences of flipping an online classroom An appraisal using Community of Inquiry Framework

    Get PDF
Technological developments in the recent times have changed the face and attributes of higher education. Online education, with an emphasis on technology augmented learning strategies, exerts unprecedented pressure on educators to adapt these changes. The increasing focus on cost effectiveness in the sector adds to this challenge. Hence, there is demand on educators to devise innovative instructional methods which are flexible, user-friendly, empowering and student-centred. A rational process in response to such demands and challenges would involve collaboration and sharing of learning-teaching practices among educators. This paper shares and explores the experiences of flipping an online classroom with a large cohort of externally enrolled, Undergraduate Nursing and Midwifery students in a regional Australian university. The design, implementation, and outcome of this active learning strategy are examined using the theoretical framework, Community of Inquiry by Garrison, Anderson, and Archer [1]. The students’ readiness engage in the task, in a student-centred pedagogy which reinforced higher order thinking was the key to this successfully flipped task

Botnets and Distributed Denial of Service Attacks

    Get PDF
With their ever increasing malicious capabilities and potential to infect a vast majority of computers on the Internet, botnets are emerging as the single biggest threat to Internet security. The aim of this project is to perform a detailed analysis of botnets and the vulnerabilities exploited by them to spread themselves and perform various malicious activities such as DDoS attacks. DDoS attacks are without doubt the most potent form of attacks carried out by botnets. In order to better understand this growing phenomenon and develop effective counter measures, it is necessary to be able to simulate DDoS attacks in a controlled environment. Simulating a DDoS attack with control over various simulation and attack parameters will give us insights into how attacks achieve stealth and avoid detection. A detailed analysis of existing DDoS defense strategies and proposals combined with the insights derived from simulation should enable us to come up with innovative and feasible solutions to prevent and mitigate DDoS attacks carried out using Botnet

Post-Acquisition Acculturation Study - A Small and Medium Sized Enterprise Experience

    Get PDF
This capstone is a post-acquisition acculturation qualitative research study. Four diverse acquisitions of small to medium sized enterprise were studied post facto to understand the socio-cultural implications of acculturation and stress on employees pre-, during and post-acquisition process. The study suggests ways to explain and analyze the phenomenon. The study then delves into stress implications and coping mechanics during acculturation. Finally, the capstone study recommends an adapted framework to manage the socialization needs of acculturation to reduce stress and support synergies

Neurogenic Bladder: Epidemiology, Diagnosis, and Management

    Get PDF
Lower urinary tract dysfunction is a common sequel of neurological disease resulting in symptoms that significantly impacts quality of life. The site of the neurological lesion and its nature influence the pattern of dysfunction. The risk for developing upper urinary tract damage and renal failure is considerably lower in patients with slowly progressive nontraumatic neurological disorders, compared with those with spinal cord injury or spina bifida. This acknowledged difference in morbidity is considered when developing appropriate management algorithms. The preliminary evaluation consists of history taking, and a bladder diary and may be supplemented by tests such as uroflowmetry, post-void residual measurement, renal ultrasound, (video-)urodynamics, neurophysiology, and urethrocystoscopy, depending on the clinical indications. Incomplete bladder emptying is most often managed by intermittent catheterization, and storage dysfunction is managed by antimuscarinic medications. Intra-detrusor injections of onabotulinumtoxinA have revolutionized the management of neurogenic detrusor overactivity. Neuromodulation offers promise for managing both storage and voiding dysfunction. In select patients, reconstructive urological surgery may become necessary. An individualized, patient-tailored approach is required for the management of lower urinary tract dysfunction in this special population

Living Water: A Hermeneutical and Exegetical Approach

Throughout Scripture, God refers to people, objects, words, and other things of the universe to help man understand him. In the New Testament, Christ used parables, metaphors, and signs to reveal himself and his salvation plan. The crown jewel among these symbols is the living water, symbolizing the Holy Spirit who is the ultimate source of salvation. God did not impose death on man, but man chose death over life by disobeying God’s command not to eat from the tree of the “knowledge of good and evil.” He decided to accept Satan’s seduction and counsel and willfully transgressed against his creator God. The encoded and conceded consequence is “in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die” (Gen 2:17). Thus, death entered the world, and all became dead in sin. Man, who does not possess the power to resurrect himself from death and give new life, needs the grace of God to regenerate and be renewed to inherit the kingdom of God. In his lovingkindness and mercy, God bestowed the grace of the Holy Spirit, called the living water, along with the source of grace, the Holy Spirit. Thus the born-again status was received “by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit” (Titus 3:5). This is the work of God’s grace. This regeneration and renewal takes away the fallen state, as described in Titus 3:3. It is the gift of the Holy Spirit in the new birth, “born again” of the Spirit (John 3:5). The Holy Spirit is revealed as the agent who performs an amazing change in the renewed person, the instantaneous change which takes place at conversion
