Exercise Reduce Oxidative Damage in Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a vulnerable condition to all kinds of "stress", resulting in changes of physiological and metabolic functions. This research aims to determine effect of exercise during pregnancy in reducing oxidative demage marked by decrease of malondialdehyde and 8-hydroxy-diguanosine levels. Randomized pre and posttest control group design was employed in this study. A number of 66 pregnant women were recruited in this study and grouped to two groups, i.e 30 of them as control group and the rest as treatment group. Pregnancy exercise was performed to all 36 pregnant women from 20 weeks gestation on treatment group. The exercise was performed in the morning for about 30 minutes, twice a weeks. On the other hand, daily activities was sugested for control group. Student's t-test was then applied to determine the mean different of treatment and control group with 5 % of significant value. This study reveals that there were significantly higher decrease of (MDA) and 8-OHdG about 0.15 nmol/ml and 0.08 ng/ml, respectively, amongs treatment and control groups (p < 0.05). Clinical outcomes, such as strengten of pelvic muscle and quality of life of treatment group were significantly better compared to control group (p < 0.05). This means that exercise during pregnancy ages of 20 weeks decrease MDA and 8-OHdG levels higher compare to control group without exercise

Pathophysiology of premature ejaculation (PE) is very complex because it is associated with many factors, which can be grouped into biological factors and psychological factors. Various diseases have been found correlate between psychological factors and biological factors through cytokines, one of which is IFN-g (IFN-g). IFN-g affect indolamine dioxygenase enzyme (IDO) and decrease levels of serotonin. Low levels of serotonin leads to PE. The purpose of this study was to prove the relationship of serotonin and IFN-g in pathophysiology of PE. This study was designed as a pretest-posttest double-blind cross-over control group design. Patients with PE were divided into 2 groups: control group and treatment group. Treatment group received flouxetine 20 mg for 30 days. Then the control and treatment groups were crossed after passing a 14-days washout period. Previously as a control group to treatment group and received flouxetine 20 mg per day for 30 days. Before and after treatment in each group was examined the levels of serotonin and IFN-g. Of the 26 subjects, each group there was 13 subjects. Flouxetine 20 mg per day for 30 days increased serotonin levels were significantly (p < 0.05), and decreased levels of IFN-g were significantly (p < 0.05). Increased levels of serotonin and decreased levels of IFN-g was significantly associated with improvements (intravaginal ejaculatory latency time) ejaculation in PE patient. From these results it can be concluded that PE occurs because decreased levels of serotonin. Decreased levels of serotonin are associated with increased levels of IFN-g

The effort to gain best achievement in sports by means of exercise has twodilemmatic sides, both for the coaches and sport promoters. On one side, exercise shouldbe done intensely and maximally, but on the other side, it is a known fact that excessiveand maximal exercises can damage the body organs. The purposes of this study were toobserve the side effects of interval running exercise of 800 meters, to find out level offatigue by examining lactate acid produced by each model, and to assess the negativeeffects on organs as indicated by the level of SGOT-SGPT. The exercise model appliedin the study comprised interval running of 2 x 800 meters, 4 x 400 meters, 8 x 200meters, 16 x 100 meters and one standard of comparison exercise, which was runningexercise of 2 x 800 meters with passive rest. This study was true experimental usingrandomized pre-test-post-test control group design. Samples of this study were 27 malestudents of the Faculty of Sports Sciences, Manado State University, who were dividedinto five groups. Group 1 was with interval running exercise of 2 x 800 meters. Group 2was assigned to interval running exercise of 4 x 400 meters. Group 3 was with intervalrunning exercise of 8 x 200 meters. Group 4 was with interval running exercise of 16 x100 meters. Group 5 as comparison standard was with running exercise of 2 x 800 meterspassive rest. All the exercise models were carried out for six weeks, each with afrequency of three times a week. Results of the study showed that the five groupsdemonstrated reduction of running time of 800 meters dash (p<0.05), lactate acidproduction differed in some of the groups (p>0.05), levels of SGOT and SGPT of allgroups did not show significant increase (p>0.05). From the above findings, it can beconcluded that all exercise models of interval running 2 x 800 meters, 4 x 400 meters, 8 x200 meters, 16 x 100 meters and 2 x 800 meters with passive rest lowered the runningtime of 800 meters dash and did not increase level of SGOT-SGPT

Pemberian Oral Ekstrak Kulit Buah Lemon (Citrus Limon) Menghambat Peningkatan Ekspresi MMP-1 (Matrix Metaloproteinase-1) Dan Penurunan Jumlah Kolagen Pada Tikus Putih Galur Wistar Jantan (Rattus Norvegicus) Yang Dipajan Sinar UV-B

: Ultraviolet B (UVB) is a source of free radicals that accelerate aging process of the skin such as activating enzymes that degrade collagen and inhibit collagen production by inducing the expression of MMP-1. Lemon peel contains vitamin C, vitamin A, tannins and phenols which possess antioxidant activity and prevent oxidative stress. This study was aimed to prove that oral administration of lemon peel extract could decrease MMP-1 levels and increase the number of collagen in the UVB-induced male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus). This was a true experimental study with the post test only control group design. Subjects were 30 male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus), aged 2-3 months, body weight 120 g, divided into 3 groups, as follows: the control group (P0) which were not exposed to UVB; the treatment group 1 (P1) given aquabidest and UVB ray exposure; and the treatment group 2 (P2) given lemon peel extract and UVB ray exposure. After 15 days of treatment, all rats were anesthetized and their skin tissues were prepared for histological examination of MMP1 and collagen. The results showed that the average expression of MMP1 in P0 group was 22.02±3.20%; in the P1 group was 29.04±6.36%; and in P2 group was 7.98±2.76% (P <0.01). In addition, the average amount of collagen in P0 group was 70.01±2.99%; in the P1 group was 57.68±4.84%; and in P2 group was 77.45±4.29% (P <0.01). Conclusion: Oral administration of lemon peel extract could decrease the expression of MMP-1 and increase the amount of collagen in the UVB-induced male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus)
