Masses and decay modes of charmonia using a confinement model
The masses of charmonium s and p-states, pseudoscalar and vector decay
constants, leptonic, hadronic as well as radiative decay widths for charmonia
have been computed in the framework of extended harmonic confinement model
without any additional parameters. The outcome in comparison with other
contemporary theoretical and experimental results is presented.Comment: Submitted to AIP for proceedings of International Workshop on

() spectroscopy using Cornell potential
The mass spectra and decay properties of heavy quarkonia are computed in
nonrelativistic quark-antiquark Cornell potential model. We have employed the
numerical solution of Schr\"odinger equation to obtain their mass spectra using
only four parameters namely quark mass (, ) and confinement strength
(, ). The spin hyperfine, spin-orbit and tensor
components of the one gluon exchange interaction are computed perturbatively to
determine the mass spectra of excited , , and states. Digamma,
digluon and dilepton decays of these mesons are computed using the model
parameters and numerical wave functions. The predicted spectroscopy and decay
properties for quarkonia are found to be consistent with available experimental
observations and results from other theoretical models. We also compute mass
spectra and life time of the meson without additional parameters. The
computed electromagnetic transition widths of heavy quarkonia and mesons
are in tune with available experimental data and other theoretical approaches
Superconductivity in 2-2-3 system Y2Ba2Cu2O(8+delta)
Researchers synthesized a new high T(sub c) 2-2-3 superconductor Y2Ba2Cu3O(8+delta) by a special preparation technique and characterized it by ac-susceptibility measurements. Diamagnetism and Meissner effect sets in at low fields and superconducting transition onsets at 90 K. The systematic investigation of the real and imaginary components of ac-susceptibility as a function of temperature and applied ac magnetic field reveals that the magnetic behavior is that of a granular type superconductor
Decay rates of quarkonia with NRQCD formalism using spectroscopic parameters of potential models
Decay rates of quarkonia are studied within the framework of NRQCD formalism.
The basic parameters of the formalism have been obtained from different
potential schemes studied for the spectra of quarkonia. We estimate the heavy
quarkonia mass spectra, radiative and leptonic widths and compare them with
other contemporary theoretical approaches and experimental results.Comment: 15 page
Drug use in acute otitis media: a prospective study at a tertiary care teaching hospital
Background: Drug use study identifies the problems that arise from prescription and highlights the current approaches to the rational use of drugs. The objective of the study was to assess drug use pattern in patients diagnosed of acute otitis media in tertiary care teaching hospital. Methods: This prospective observational study was carried in the Otorhinolaryngology department of a tertiary care teaching hospital over a period of twelve months. The data collected for patients with acute otitis media included the patient's demographic details and the drugs prescribed. Data were analysed for drug use pattern and cost per prescription and assessment of rationality of prescription. Results: Total 153 patients were analysed, 100 (65.35%) belonged to male patients and 53 (34.65%) belonged to female patients. Children less than 2years age were the most diagnosed with AOM 47.71%, the major diagnostic symptoms were earache (58.16%) and fever (54.90%) and signs were congestion (52.94%) and discharge (43.13%). In a total 153 prescriptions (469 drugs), 33.68% were antimicrobials, followed by mineral supplements (23.67%). Average number of drugs per prescription was found to be 3.0. Most common antibiotic prescribed was amoxicillin (with or without clavulanate) in 142 (92.81%) patients. Paracetamol alone or in fixed dose combination with antihistaminics were prescribed in 131 patients. Average cost per prescription was 87.74(±35.67) Indian rupees. Seventeen (11.11%) prescriptions were rational in all the aspects based on standard guidelines. Conclusions: The present study showed that paracetamol and amoxicillin with or without clavulanate were mostly commonly prescribed in children with AOM. Irrational prescribing was seen in maximum number of cases
Low-lying di-hadronic states in relativistic harmonic model
Di-hadronic molecules such as di-meson, meson-baryon and di-baryon states are
studied in the relativistic confinement model. We have computed the binding
energy of the di-hadronic systems like , , etc., as
penta-quark states, 2, , , , etc. as
tetra-quark states and , , etc. as di-baryonic
states using a molecular interaction provided by asymptotic expression of the
confined gluon exchange potential. We find the lowest penta-quark state lies in
the energy range of 1.180 - 2.247 GeV as predicted by other theoretical models.
The exotic states such as , , , , , etc. are identified as the di-mesonic
hadron molecules. The low-lying di-baryon molecular states found to be in the
range of 1.990-2.907 GeV with their binding energies lying between 112-120 MeV.Comment: 6 pages, accepted to publish in Indian Journal of Physic
