    Get PDF
The present invention relates to a process for the synthesis of a zinc-based compound having general formula (I): wherein L is selected in the group consisting of: NO3, CH3CO2, (SO4)0.5, halide, and acetyl acetonate (AcAc), 2x = y + z; wherein x is comprised between 1 and 5, y is comprised between 1 and 8, z is comprised between 1 and 2, and n is comprised between 0 and 20. Said zinc-based compound is then used for the synthesis of a zinc dicarboxylate catalyst to be used for the heterogeneous catalytic copolymerization of a polyalkylene carbonate starting from CO2 and an alkyl epoxide, preferably containing at least 3 atoms of carbon, said polyalkylene carbonate being characterised by chemical-physical and mechanical properties which make it advantageous for a variety of different applications

The present invention relates to a polyalkylene carbonate, preferably PRC, and the use thereof in packaging, in coating surfaces, in cosmetics, in the biomedical or textile sector or to produce composite materials or moisture absorption devices. Preferably, said polyalkylene carbonate is obtained by reacting CO2 with an alkyl epoxide preferably containing at least 3 atoms of carbon, preferably propylene oxide, in the presence of a zinc dicarboxylate catalyst; said catalyst being obtained by reacting, with a preferably saturated aliphatic dicarboxylic acid, a zinc-based compound comprising a mixture of ZnO and a compound having the general formula (I): Znx(0H)y(L)z-nH2 O (I) wherein L is selected in the group consisting of: NO3, CH3CO2, (SO4)0.5, halide, and acetyl acetonate (AcAc), 2x = y + z; wherein x is comprised between 1 and 5, y is comprised between 1 and 8, z is comprised between 1 and 2, and n is comprised between 0 and 20

Identification of a novel pathway in sporadic Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis mediated by the long non-coding RNA ZEB1-AS1

Background: Deregulation of transcription in the pathogenesis of sporadic Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (sALS) is taking central stage with RNA-sequencing analyses from sALS patients tissues highlighting numerous deregulated long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs). The oncogenic lncRNA ZEB1-AS1 is strongly downregulated in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of sALS patients. In addition, in cancer-derived cell lines, ZEB1-AS1 belongs to a negative feedback loop regulation with hsa-miR-200c, acting as a molecular sponge for this miRNA. The role of the lncRNA ZEB1-AS1 in sALS pathogenesis has not been characterized yet, and its study could help identifying a possible disease-modifying target. Methods: the implication of the ZEB1-AS1/ZEB1/hsa-miR-200c/BMI1 pathway was investigated in multiple patients-derived cellular models (patients-derived peripheral blood mononuclear cells and induced pluripotent stem cells-derived neural stem cells) and in the neuroblastoma cell line SH-SY5Y, where its function was inhibited via RNA interference. Molecular techniques such as Real Time PCR, Western Blot and Immunofluorescence were used to assess the pathway dysregulation. Results: Our results show a dysregulation of a signaling pathway involving ZEB1-AS1/hsa-miR-200c/β-Catenin in peripheral blood mononuclear cells and in induced pluripotent stem cells-derived neural stem cells from sALS patients. These results were validated in vitro on the cell line SH-SY5Y with silenced expression of ZEB1-AS1. Moreover, we found an increase for ZEB1-AS1 during neural differentiation with an aberrant expression of β-Catenin, highlighting also its aggregation and possible impact on neurite length. Conclusions: Our results support and describe the role of ZEB1-AS1 pathway in sALS and specifically in neuronal differentiation, suggesting that an impairment of β-Catenin signaling and an alteration of the neuronal phenotype are taking place

Implementing efficient concerted rotations using Mathematica and C code

    Get PDF
In this article we demonstrate a general and efficient metaprogramming implementation of concerted rotations using Mathematica. Concerted rotations allow the movement of a fixed portion of a polymer backbone with fixed bending angles, like a protein, while maintaining the correct geometry of the backbone and the initial and final points of the portion fixed. Our implementation uses Mathematica to generate a C code which is then wrapped in a library by a Python script. The user can modify the Mathematica notebook to generate a set of concerted rotations suited for a particular backbone geometry, without having to write the C code himself. The resulting code is highly optimized, performing on the order of thousands of operations per second
