    A Decentralized Processing Schema for Efficient and Robust Real-time Multi-GNSS Satellite Clock Estimation

    Real-time multi-GNSS precise point positioning (PPP) requires the support of high-rate satellite clock corrections. Due to the large number of ambiguity parameters, it is difficult to update clocks at high frequency in real-time for a large reference network. With the increasing number of satellites of multi-GNSS constellations and the number of stations, real-time high-rate clock estimation becomes a big challenge. In this contribution, we propose a decentralized clock estimation (DECE) strategy, in which both undifferenced (UD) and epoch-differenced (ED) mode are implemented but run separately in different computers, and their output clocks are combined in another process to generate a unique product. While redundant UD and/or ED processing lines can be run in offsite computers to improve the robustness, processing lines for different networks can also be included to improve the clock quality. The new strategy is realized based on the Position and Navigation Data Analyst (PANDA) software package and is experimentally validated with about 110 real-time stations for clock estimation by comparison of the estimated clocks and the PPP performance applying estimated clocks. The results of the real-time PPP experiment using 12 global stations show that with the greatly improved computational efficiency, 3.14 cm in horizontal and 5.51 cm in vertical can be achieved using the estimated DECE clock

    Speaker Extraction with Co-Speech Gestures Cue

    Speaker extraction seeks to extract the clean speech of a target speaker from a multi-talker mixture speech. There have been studies to use a pre-recorded speech sample or face image of the target speaker as the speaker cue. In human communication, co-speech gestures that are naturally timed with speech also contribute to speech perception. In this work, we explore the use of co-speech gestures sequence, e.g. hand and body movements, as the speaker cue for speaker extraction, which could be easily obtained from low-resolution video recordings, thus more available than face recordings. We propose two networks using the co-speech gestures cue to perform attentive listening on the target speaker, one that implicitly fuses the co-speech gestures cue in the speaker extraction process, the other performs speech separation first, followed by explicitly using the co-speech gestures cue to associate a separated speech to the target speaker. The experimental results show that the co-speech gestures cue is informative in associating the target speaker, and the quality of the extracted speech shows significant improvements over the unprocessed mixture speech

    SCITAB: A Challenging Benchmark for Compositional Reasoning and Claim Verification on Scientific Tables

    Current scientific fact-checking benchmarks exhibit several shortcomings, such as biases arising from crowd-sourced claims and an over-reliance on text-based evidence. We present SCITAB, a challenging evaluation dataset consisting of 1.2K expert-verified scientific claims that 1) originate from authentic scientific publications and 2) require compositional reasoning for verification. The claims are paired with evidence-containing scientific tables annotated with labels. Through extensive evaluations, we demonstrate that SCITAB poses a significant challenge to state-of-the-art models, including table-based pretraining models and large language models. All models except GPT-4 achieved performance barely above random guessing. Popular prompting techniques, such as Chain-of-Thought, do not achieve much performance gains on SCITAB. Our analysis uncovers several unique challenges posed by SCITAB, including table grounding, claim ambiguity, and compositional reasoning.     Seasonal variation of phytoplankton community assembly processes in Tibetan Plateau floodplain

    Uncovering the mechanisms underlying phytoplankton community assembly remains a major challenge in freshwater ecology. The roles of environmental filtering and spatial processes in shaping phytoplankton metacommunity in Tibetan floodplain ecosystems under various hydrological conditions are still unclear. Here, multivariate statistics and a null model approach were used to compare the spatiotemporal patterns and assembly processes of phytoplankton communities in the river-oxbow lake system of Tibetan Plateau floodplain between non-flood and flood periods. The results showed that phytoplankton communities had significant seasonal and habitat variations, with the seasonal variations being more remarkable. Phytoplankton density, biomass, and alpha diversity were distinctly lower in the flood than non-flood period. The habitat differences (rivers vs. oxbow lakes) in phytoplankton community were less pronounced during the flood than non-flood period, most likely due to the increased hydrological connectivity. There was a significant distance-decay relationship only in lotic phytoplankton communities, and such relationship was stronger in the non-flood than flood period. Variation partitioning and PER-SIMPER analysis showed that the relative role of environmental filtering and spatial processes affecting phytoplankton assemblages varied across hydrological periods, with environmental filtering dominating in the non-flood period and spatial processes in the flood period. These results suggest that the flow regime plays a key role in balancing environmental and spatial factors in shaping phytoplankton communities. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of ecological phenomena in highland floodplains and provides a theoretical basis for floodplain ecosystem maintenance and ecological health management.Peer reviewe

    Variational approach to p-Laplacian fractional differential equations with instantaneous and non-instantaneous impulses

    In this paper, we examine the existence of solutions of p-Laplacian fractional differential equations with instantaneous and non-instantaneous impulses. New criteria guaranteeing the existence of infinitely many solutions are established for the considered problem. The problem is reduced to an equivalent form such that the weak solutions of the problem are defined as the critical points of an energy functional. The main result of the present work is established by using a variational approach and a mountain pass lemma. Finally, an example is given to illustrate our main result

    A square root information filter for multi-GNSS real-time precise clock estimation

    Real-time satellite orbit and clock estimations are the prerequisite for Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) real-time precise positioning services. To meet the high-rate update requirement of satellite clock corrections, the computational efficiency is a key factor and a challenge due to the rapid development of multi-GNSS constellations. The Square Root Information Filter (SRIF) is widely used in real-time GNSS data processing thanks to its high numerical stability and computational efficiency. In real-time clock estimation, the outlier detection and elimination are critical to guarantee the precision and stability of the product but could be time-consuming. In this study, we developed a new quality control procedure including the three standard steps: i.e., detection, identification, and adaption, for real-time data processing of huge GNSS networks. Effort is made to improve the computational efficiency by optimizing the algorithm to provide only the essential information required in the processing, so that it can be applied in real-time and high-rate estimation of satellite clocks. The processing procedure is implemented in the PANDA (Positioning and Navigation Data Analyst) software package and evaluated in the operational generation of real-time GNSS orbit and clock products. We demonstrated that the new algorithm can efficiently eliminate outliers, and a clock precision of 0.06 ns, 0.24 ns, 0.06 ns, and 0.11 ns can be achieved for the GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BDS-2 IGSO/MEO satellites, respectively. The computation time per epoch is about 2 to 3 s depending on the number of existing outliers. Overall, the algorithm can satisfy the IGS real-time clock estimation in terms of both the computational efficiency and product quality

    The impact of urbanization on body size of Barn Swallows Hirundo rustica gutturalis

    Urbanization implies a dramatic impact on ecosystems, which may lead to drastic phenotypic differences between urban and nonurban individuals. For instance, urbanization is associated with increased metabolic costs, which may constrain body size, but urbanization also leads to habitat fragmentation, which may favor increases in body mass when for instance it correlates with dispersal capacity. However, this apparent contradiction has rarely been studied. This is particularly evident in China where the urbanization process is currently occurring at an unprecedented scale. Moreover, no study has addressed this issue across large geographical areas encompassing locations in different climates. In this regard, Barn Swallows (Hirundo rustica) are a suitable model to study the impact of urbanization on wild animals because they are a widely distributed species tightly associated with humans. Here, we collected body mass and wing length data for 359 breeding individuals of Barn Swallow (H. r. gutturalis) from 128 sites showing different levels of urbanization around the whole China. Using a set of linear mixed-effects models, we assessed how urbanization and geography influenced body size measured using body mass, wing length, and their regression residuals. Interestingly, we found that the impact of urbanization was sex-dependent, negatively affecting males’ body mass, its regression residuals, and females’ wing length. We also found that northern and western individuals were larger, regarding both body mass and wing length, than southern and eastern individuals. Females were heavier than males, yet males had slightly longer wings than females. Overall, our results showed that body mass of males was particularly sensitive trait to urbanization, latitude, and longitude, while it only showed a weak response to latitude in females. Conversely, while wing length showed a similar geographical pattern, it was only affected by urbanization in the case of females. Further research is needed to determine whether these phenotypic differences are associated with negative effects of urbanization or potential selective advantages

    Methylprednisolone as Adjunct to Endovascular Thrombectomy for Large-Vessel Occlusion Stroke

    Importance It is uncertain whether intravenous methylprednisolone improves outcomes for patients with acute ischemic stroke due to large-vessel occlusion (LVO) undergoing endovascular thrombectomy. Objective To assess the efficacy and adverse events of adjunctive intravenous low-dose methylprednisolone to endovascular thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke secondary to LVO. Design, Setting, and Participants This investigator-initiated, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was implemented at 82 hospitals in China, enrolling 1680 patients with stroke and proximal intracranial LVO presenting within 24 hours of time last known to be well. Recruitment took place between February 9, 2022, and June 30, 2023, with a final follow-up on September 30, 2023.InterventionsEligible patients were randomly assigned to intravenous methylprednisolone (n = 839) at 2 mg/kg/d or placebo (n = 841) for 3 days adjunctive to endovascular thrombectomy. Main Outcomes and Measures The primary efficacy outcome was disability level at 90 days as measured by the overall distribution of the modified Rankin Scale scores (range, 0 [no symptoms] to 6 [death]). The primary safety outcomes included mortality at 90 days and the incidence of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage within 48 hours. Results Among 1680 patients randomized (median age, 69 years; 727 female [43.3%]), 1673 (99.6%) completed the trial. The median 90-day modified Rankin Scale score was 3 (IQR, 1-5) in the methylprednisolone group vs 3 (IQR, 1-6) in the placebo group (adjusted generalized odds ratio for a lower level of disability, 1.10 [95% CI, 0.96-1.25]; P = .17). In the methylprednisolone group, there was a lower mortality rate (23.2% vs 28.5%; adjusted risk ratio, 0.84 [95% CI, 0.71-0.98]; P = .03) and a lower rate of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (8.6% vs 11.7%; adjusted risk ratio, 0.74 [95% CI, 0.55-0.99]; P = .04) compared with placebo. Conclusions and Relevance Among patients with acute ischemic stroke due to LVO undergoing endovascular thrombectomy, adjunctive methylprednisolone added to endovascular thrombectomy did not significantly improve the degree of overall disability.Trial RegistrationChiCTR.org.cn Identifier: ChiCTR210005172

    Natural Hirudin Increases Rat Flap Viability by Anti-Inflammation via PARs/p38/NF-ÎșB Pathway

    The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of natural hirudin on rat random skin flap viability and to determine the mechanism. Forty-eight rats were randomly divided into 2 groups. After the dorsal skin flap operation (3 cm × 10 cm in size), subcutaneous injections of 6 ATU hirudin were administered to group H (n=24) every 12 h, while group C (n=24) received an equal volume of 0.9% normal saline. Six rats from each group were euthanized 1, 2, 4, and 7 days after the operation. A full skin sample was collected from these rats to measure the p38-mitogen-activated protein kinase (p38-MAPK), phospho-p38- (Pp38-) MAPK, nuclear factor-ÎșB (NF-ÎșB) p65, phosphor-NF-ÎșB (pNF-ÎșB) p65, tumour necrosis factor- (TNF-) α, interleukin- (IL-) 6, and intercellular adhesion molecule- (ICAM-) 1 levels via western blot (WB) assays. The results showed that flap viability was significantly higher in the hirudin-treated group, which showed a reduced inflammatory response compared with the control group. The Pp38/p38, pNF-ÎșB p65/NF-ÎșB p65, TNF-α, IL-6, and ICAM-1 levels in the hirudin-treated group were lower than those in the control group. The results demonstrated that hirudin could improve random skin flap viability and suggested that this effect maybe occurs by blocking the thrombin/proteinase-activated receptors (PARs)/p38/NF-ÎșB signalling pathway, thus decreasing the inflammatory response

    Performance Improvement of Hydrofoil with Biological Characteristics: Tail Fin of a Whale

    In order to improve the hydrodynamic performance of hydrofoils, this paper shows excellent hydrodynamic performance according to the flapping motion of fish through the tail fin. The Naca66 hydrofoil is used as the original hydrofoil and the trailing edge flap configuration is added. Ansys-fluent is used to analyze the relationship between the structural parameters (length and angle) of the flap and the hydrodynamic performance of the hydrofoil, the reliability of CFD numerical simulation is verified by PIV experiment. It is found that the hydrofoil, with clockwise rotating short flap, can significantly improve the hydrodynamic performance of a hydrofoil at a small angle of attack; at a high angle of attack, the hydrofoil with counterclockwise flap can increase the critical stall angle and slightly improve the hydrodynamic performance of the hydrofoil. The hydrodynamic performance of hydrofoil with rotatable short flaps reported in this paper can provide valuable information for the design and optimization of this kind of hydrofoil
