    A Novel Sound Reconstruction Technique based on a Spike Code (event) Representation

    This thesis focuses on the re-generation of sound from a spike based coding system. Three different types of spike based coding system have been analyzed. Two of them are biologically inspired spike based coding systems i.e. the spikes are generated in a similar way to how our auditory nerves generate spikes. They have been called AN (Auditory Nerve) spikes and AN Onset (Amplitude Modulated Onset) spikes. Sounds have been re-generated from spikes generated by both of those spike coding technique. A related event based coding technique has been developed by Koickal and the sounds have been re-generated from spikes generated by Koickal's spike coding technique and the results are compared. Our brain does not reconstruct sound from the spikes received from auditory nerves, it interprets it. But by reconstructing sounds from these spike coding techniques, we will be able to identify which spike based technique is better and more efficient for coding different types of sounds. Many issues and challenges arise in reconstructing sound from spikes and they are discussed. The AN spike technique generates the most spikes of the techniques tested, followed by Koickal's technique (54.4% lower) and the AN Onset technique (85.6% lower). Both subjective and objective types of testing have been carried out to assess the quality of reconstructed sounds from these three spike coding techniques. Four types of sounds have been used in the subjective test: string, percussion, male voice and female voice. In the objective test, these four types and many other types of sounds have been included. From the results, it has been established that AN spikes generates the best quality of decoded sounds but it produces many more spikes than the others. AN Onset spikes generates better quality of decoded sounds than Koickal's technique for most of sounds except choir type of sounds and noises, however AN Onset spikes produces 68.5% fewer spikes than Koickal's spikes. This provides evidences that AN Onset spikes can outperform Koickal's spikes for most of the sound types

    Perbedaan Faktor Yang Menjadi Pertimbangan Mahasiswa Memilih Perguruan Tinggi Di Surabaya

    This study aims to determine the differences in factors that students consider when choosing tertiary institutions in Surabaya. The population in this study were first semester students in 5 tertiary institutions namely Surabaya Institute of Technology (ITS), Widya Mandala Catholic University of Surabaya (UKWM), Surabaya University (UBAYA), Darma Cendika Catholic University (UKDC), and Petra Christian University (UKP), with a total sample of 100 students. This research was analyzed using different tests and to test the differences between three or more independent groups of two or more variables, using the Kruskal Wallis statistical method. The results showed that there were differences in factors that were considered by students to choose tertiary institutions in Surabaya, with nine factors examined, there were eight different variables among the five tertiary institutions studied, namely location (X1), reputation (X2), scholarship (X3),  tuition fees (X4), entry requirements (X5), facilities (X6), number of students (X7), lecturer competencies (X8), and campus buildings (X9). The test results stated the scholarship factor (X3) there was no difference between the five tertiary institutions studied, because the H count was 7.78 < H table (9,488) and asymp. sig 0,100 > 0.05. There are differences from 8 existing factors, namely: 1) There are differences in the consideration factors of prospective students between Darma Cendika Catholic University (UKDC) with Surabaya Institute of Technology (ITS), Widya Mandala Catholic University of Surabaya (UKWM), Surabaya University (UBAYA), and Petra Christian University (UKP), namely reputation, tuition fees, entry requirements, facilities, number of students, competencies lecturers, and campus buildings, because the calculated H value > H table (3,841) and asymp. sig < 0.05

    Pengembangan Bahan Ajar Menulis Feature dengan Pendekatan Jurnalistik Sastra

    ABTRAK Dalam konteks kekinian, kemampuan menulis feature sangatlah urgen untuk dikuasai mahasiswa. Dikatakan demikian, karena feature adalah tulisan kreatif yang terbit di koran, majalah, radio dan tayangan televisi. Sebagai tulisan kreatif, feature adalah cerita pendek yang diangkat dari realitas objektif, faktual, nyata sebagai rangkaian informasi yang dibangun dari hasil visitasi, konfirmasi, dan adakalanya investigasi. Untuk membangun kemampuan menulis feature di kalangan mahasiswa maka diperlukan bahan ajar berpendekatan jurnalistika sastra. Pendekatan jurnalistik sastra adalah pendekatan yang dimulai dari observasi, investigasi, dan penulisan laporan. Penulisan laporannya mengikuti unsur-unsur penulisan cerita pendek; sudut pandang, plot, karakter, gaya, suasana, dan lokasi peristiwa. Rata-rata hasil pembelajaran menulis feature berpendekatan jurnalistik sastra mahasiswa semester empat Pendidikan Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia FKIP Universitas Jambi; penulisan intro karangan ‘baik’, 5W1H,  ‘sangat baik’,  pengungkapan pesan moral,  ‘baik’; kemampuan pemaparan dengan gaya cerita pendek (  sudut pandang, plot, karakter, gaya, dialog, suasana, lokasi peristiwa)   ‘baik’; tiga puluh persen  mahasiswa yang mengikuti perkuliahan menulis feature mengirimkan tulisan ke media cetak lokal, semuanya dipublikasi. It is said so, because features are creative writing published in newspapers, magazines, radio and television shows. To build the ability to write features among students, teaching materials with a literary journalistic approach are needed. The literary journalistic approach is an approach that starts from observation, investigation, and report writing. The writing of the report follows the elements of short story writing; point of view, plot, characters, style, atmosphere and location of events. The average learning outcomes of feature writing in the literary journalistic approach of fourth semester students of Indonesian Language and Literature Education FKIP Jambi University; intro writing of 'good', 5W1H, 'very good', expressing moral messages, 'good'; ability to describe short story style (point of view, plot, character, style, dialogue, atmosphere, location of events) 'good'; Thirty percent of students who take feature writing courses send their articles to local print media, all of which are published.     Pelatihan Penulisan Karya Ilmiah Bagi Guru Profesional

    Guru seharusnya memiliki  kemampuan menulis untuk menunjang keberhasilan profesinya, karena guru dalam fungsinya sebagai penggali dan penerus ilmu pengetahuan kepada murid-murid tidak cukup hanya disampaikan secara lisan, tetapi juga melalui tulisan.   Permasalahan klasik yang dihadapi guru yaitu rendahnya produktivitas menulis karya ilmiah. Keadaan ini disebabkan guru-guru selama ini dalam mencapai golongan IV/b diyakini  tidak mampu menulis karya ilmiah.  Untuk memenuhi kebutuhan meningkatkan budaya menulis karya ilmiah,  guru harus memahami apa itu karya ilmiah serta seluk beluknya,    baik secara berkelompok maupun individu. Salah satu cara untuk meningkatkan keterampilan guru menulis karya ilmiah adalah melalui pelatihan  yang meliputi: 1) Writing down; latihan melibatkan  proses   reproduksi bahan yang sudah dipelajari; berkosentrasi pada ejaan dan tanda baca. 2) Writing in Language; peserta     pelatihan  terlihat   dalam berbagai aktivitas penerapan aturan tatabahasa. 3) Fleksibilitas; peserta pelatihan mulai menulis dalam suatu kerangka, seperti latihan  tranformasi, penggabungan kalimat, perluasan kalimat.4) Menulis ekpresisf;  peserta menulis artikel terbimbing dan bebas serta pelatihan mengirim artikel ke jurnal ilmiah terakreditasi.     Deep Transfer Learning based COVID-19 Detection in Cough, Breath and Speech using Bottleneck Features

    We present an experimental investigation into the automatic detection of COVID-19 from coughs, breaths and speech as this type of screening is non-contact, does not require specialist medical expertise or laboratory facilities and can easily be deployed on inexpensive consumer hardware. Smartphone recordings of cough, breath and speech from subjects around the globe are used for classification by seven standard machine learning classifiers using leave-pp-out cross-validation to provide a promising baseline performance. Then, a diverse dataset of 10.29 hours of cough, sneeze, speech and noise audio recordings are used to pre-train a CNN, LSTM and Resnet50 classifier and fine tuned the model to enhance the performance even further. We have also extracted the bottleneck features from these pre-trained models by removing the final-two layers and used them as an input to the LR, SVM, MLP and KNN classifiers to detect COVID-19 signature. The highest AUC of 0.98 was achieved using a transfer learning based Resnet50 architecture on coughs from Coswara dataset. The highest AUC of 0.94 and 0.92 was achieved from an SVM run on the bottleneck features extracted from the breaths from Coswara dataset and speech recordings from ComParE dataset. We conclude that among all vocal audio, coughs carry the strongest COVID-19 signature followed by breath and speech and using transfer learning improves the classifier performance with higher AUC and lower variance across the cross-validation folds. Although these signatures are not perceivable by human ear, machine learning based COVID-19 detection is possible from vocal audio recorded via smartphone

    The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of product quality, price,promotion, service quality, and distribution on purchasing decisions of Sikaproducts at PT Adya Mandala Persada Surabaya. The sampling method used waspurposive sampling using questions in the questionnaire distributed to 125respondents who were all consumers of PT Adya Mandala Persada Surabaya.Data processing was performed using SPSS version 20.0. The results showed thatin the Validity Test all statement items were declared valid, and in the ReliabilityTest it was said that all variables were declared reliable. The results of theClassical Assumption Test show that all the requirements have been met to carryout the Multiple Linear Regression Test. From the results of the Multiple LinearRegression Test, the value of Y = 2.399 - 0.067X1 + 0.081X2 + 0.217X3 +0.234X4 + 0.697X5 is obtained. The result of the Determinant Coefficient Testshows that the Adjusted R Square is 54.9%, meaning that all X variables have amoderate contribution. The t test results get the following values: (i) variable X1= tcalculate -0.785 < ttable 1.980 with a significance level of 0.434 > 0.05, meaningthat product quality has no effect on purchasing decisions; (ii) variable X2 =tcalculate 0.793 < ttable 1.980 with a significance level of 0.429 > 0.05, which means that the price has no effect on purchasing decisions; (iii) variable X3 = tcalculate 2,564 > ttable 1,980 with a significance level of 0.012 < 0.05, it means that promotion has a significant effect on purchasing decisions; (iv) variable X4 =tcalculate 3.024 > ttable 1.980 with a significance level of 0.03 < 0.05, it means thatservice quality has a significant effect on purchasing decisions; (v) variable X5 =tcalculate 6,063 > ttable 1,980 with a significance level of 0,000 < 0.05, it means that the distribution has a significant effect on purchasing decisions. Overall it can be concluded that product quality and price have no effect on purchasing decisions while promotion, service quality, and distribution have a significant effect on purchasing decisions

    The influence of globalization in Indonesia is felt and evidenced by the many foreign cultures that enter Indonesia, especially in Surabaya. More and more young entrepreneurs in Surabaya are working in the culinary field, especially foreign culinary. One of the foreign culinary businesses in Surabaya is Michuu Coffee Pakuwon City Surabaya which was established in 2019. Michuu coffee here offers South Korean food and beverage products that are in high demand these days. The purpose of this study is to know the impact of digital marketing, trust, and popular culture on decision purchases of michuu coffee. The population of this study is the consumer who make purchases at Michuu Coffee, where the number of samples is 75 respondents and the sampling technique is purposive sampling. On the validity test it is obtained results that all stated statement items are valid because r count > r tables (1.994) so that they can be used to help with this research. In the reliability test, all variables have Cronbach's Alpha results > 0.6 so that they are declared reliable. Then, in the classical assumption test with the normality test in this study, it is said to be normally distributed. In the multicollinearity test in this study, there was no multicollinearity. In the  heteroscedasticity test in this study, there were no symptoms of  heteroscedasticity. The multiple linear regression equation in this study is Y = -0.774 + 0.141 X1 + 0.503 X2 + 0.486 X3. In the coefficient of determination test in this study, having an adjusted R square value of 0.54 or 54% indicates that digital marketing, trust, and popular culture have a moderate contribution to purchasing decisions at Michuu Coffee. In the t-test, it was found that digital marketing variables (X1), trust (X2), and popular culture (X3) had a significant effect on purchasing decisions at Michuu Coffee

    IMPLEMENTASI PEMBELAJARAN CASE METHOD MELALUI OBSERVASI-INVESTIGASI SEBAGAI PENGEMBANGAN BAHAN AJAR DIALOGIKA DI FORUM KELAS

    Berbicara adalah salah satu kemampuan khusus pada manusia. Bahasa dan pembicaraan itu muncul, ketika manusia mengungkapkan dan menyampaikan pikirannya kepada manusia lain. Untuk menyampaikan pikiran tersebut  secara menarik diperlukan suatu kemampuan seni berbicara. Kajian seni berbicara adalah retorika. Untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mahasiswa beretorika telah dikembangakan pembelajaran pemecahan kasus (case method) bersumber dari observasi-investigasi mahasiswa sebagai pengembangan bahan ajar dialogika di forum kelas. Ada pun aspek-aspek yang dinilai; keefektifan diksi, kejelasan artikulasi; intonasi dan jedah,  ekpresi wajah,  argumentasi,  kejelasan data yang dipaparkan hasil investigasi-observasi di lapangan, dan kejelasan closing statement. Berdasarkan unsur-unsur yang dinilai tersebut simpulan nilai rata-rata setiap mahasiswa pada rentangan 75 sampai 78, pada umumnya kategori ‘baik’. Khusus kejelasan data yang dipaparkan hasil investigasi-observasi di lapangan rata-rata kemampuan cukup. Suasana debat mahasiswa termotivasi mengembangkan retorika kelompok dan pribadi. Simpulan penelitian, pembelajaran berbasis case method hasil observasi dan investigasi lapangan merupakan salah satu pilihan untuk melatih kemampuan mahasiswa; beretorika, berpikir realis dan kritis serta mengadakan penelitian sederhana.     Cat tembok PT Propan Raya diproduksi pertama kali pada tahun 1997. Yakni rangkaian cat Decor yang berkualitas tinggi dan cat tembok Eco Emulsion yang lebih ekonomis. Sejak pertama kali diproduksi cat Decor dan Eco Emulsion tidak langsung dijual bebas di pasar. Melainkan hanya pada segmenproject. Hal ini dimaksudkan untuk menguji kualitas cat-cat tersebut. Kmena memang yang diutamakan dari setiap produk PT Propan Raya adalah kualitas. Dua belas tahun kemudian, tepatnya Pada Mei 2009, cat tembok PT Propan Raya diluncurkan ke pasar ritel (toko), sebanyak 5 merek yaitu, D6corflex, D6corshield, Ddcorsafe, Decorcryl dan Eco Emulsion. Masa 12 (dua belas) tahun dimanfaatkan untuk melakukan perbaikan dan peningkatan kualitas terus menerus. Bukti kualitas cat tembok PT Propan Raya adalah yang terbailq dimana telah digunalran dalam proyek-proyek perumahan mewah Surabaya, seperti Perumahan Galaxy, dan Perumahan Citraland. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dan hasil analisa lingkungan yang telah dilakukan ditarik kesimpulan PT Propan Raya mempunyai peluang yang cukup besar dalam memasarkan cat tembok di Surabaya mencapai angka 3237. Kompetisi pasar yang dinamis merupakan sebuah peluang besar. PT Propan Raya dapat menjadikan pesaing sebagai alat pembanding potensi diri untuk dapat memperbaiki dan melengkapi kekurangan yang ada. Sehingga perusahaan mampu mengelola segala sumber daya dan kemampuan secara optimal agar efisiensi dan efektivitas tujuan perusatraan dapat tercapu. Analisis yang dilalcukan menuqiukkan kekuatan yang dimiliki PT Propan Raya sangat besar yaitu sebesar 4gl4 (tabel4.5). Kualitas produk yang sangat tinggi dibanding produk pesaing meliputi hidding power, dirty shield dan alkaly resisting. Strategi yang tepat untuk diterapkan oleh perusahaan adalah kebijakan pertumbuhan yang agresif (Growth Oriented Strateg). Dengan fokus pengembangan kebijakan pada peningkatan layanan kepada konsumen dan peningkatan promosi pada media masa cetak dan elekfronik serta pada internet (online marketing).
