Soft SUSY breaking contributions to proton decay
We show that in supersymmetric grand unified theories new effective D=4 and
D=5 operators for proton decay are induced by soft SUSY-breaking terms, when
heavy GUT gauge bosons are integrated out, in addition to the standard D=6
ones. As a result, the proton lifetime in gauge mediated channels can be
enhanced or even suppressed depending on the size of the heavy Higgses soft

Local Ranking Problem on the BrowseGraph
The "Local Ranking Problem" (LRP) is related to the computation of a
centrality-like rank on a local graph, where the scores of the nodes could
significantly differ from the ones computed on the global graph. Previous work
has studied LRP on the hyperlink graph but never on the BrowseGraph, namely a
graph where nodes are webpages and edges are browsing transitions. Recently,
this graph has received more and more attention in many different tasks such as
ranking, prediction and recommendation. However, a web-server has only the
browsing traffic performed on its pages (local BrowseGraph) and, as a
consequence, the local computation can lead to estimation errors, which hinders
the increasing number of applications in the state of the art. Also, although
the divergence between the local and global ranks has been measured, the
possibility of estimating such divergence using only local knowledge has been
mainly overlooked. These aspects are of great interest for online service
providers who want to: (i) gauge their ability to correctly assess the
importance of their resources only based on their local knowledge, and (ii)
take into account real user browsing fluxes that better capture the actual user
interest than the static hyperlink network. We study the LRP problem on a
BrowseGraph from a large news provider, considering as subgraphs the
aggregations of browsing traces of users coming from different domains. We show
that the distance between rankings can be accurately predicted based only on
structural information of the local graph, being able to achieve an average
rank correlation as high as 0.8

Constructing Hybrid Baryons with Flux Tubes
Hybrid baryon states are described in quark potential models as having
explicit excitation of the gluon degrees of freedom. Such states are described
in a model motivated by the strong coupling limit of Hamiltonian lattice gauge
theory, where three flux tubes meeting at a junction play the role of the glue.
The adiabatic approximation for the quark motion is used, and the flux tubes
and junction are modeled by beads which are attracted to each other and the
quarks by a linear potential, and vibrate in various string modes. Quantum
numbers and estimates of the energies of the lightest hybrid baryons are

Humpy LNRF-velocity profiles in accretion discs orbiting nearly extreme Kerr black holes. A possible relation to QPOs
Change of sign of the LNRF-velocity gradient has been found for accretion
discs orbiting rapidly rotating Kerr black holes with spin a > 0.9953 for
Keplerian discs and a > 0.99979 for marginally stable thick discs. Aschenbach
(2004) has identified the maximal rate of change of the orbital velocity within
the "humpy" profile with a locally defined critical frequency of disc
oscillations, but it has been done in a coordinate-dependent form. We define
the critical "humpy" frequency H in general relativistic, coordinate
independent form, and relate the frequency defined in the LNRF to distant
observers. At radius of its definition, so-called "humpy" radius r_h, the
"humpy" frequency H is compared to the radial (R) and vertical (V) epicyclic
frequencies and the orbital frequency of the disc. For Keplerian thin discs, we
show that the epicyclic resonance radii r_31 and r_41 (with V:R = 3:1 or 4:1)
are located in vicinity of r_h where efficient triggering of oscillations with
frequencies ~ H could be expected. Asymptotically (for 1-a < 10^(-4)) the ratio
of the epicyclic and Keplerian frequencies and the humpy frequency is nearly
constant, i.e., almost independent of spin, being for the radial epicyclic
frequency R:H ~ 3:2. For thick discs the situation is more complex due to
dependence on distribution of the specific angular momentum l determining the
disc properties. For l = const tori and 1-a < 10^(-6) the frequency ratios of
the humpy frequency and the orbital and epicyclic frequencies are again nearly
constant and independent of both a and l, being for the radial epicyclic
frequency R:H close to 4. In the limiting case of very slender tori (l ~ l_ms)

Complex Instantons and Charged Rotating Black Hole Pair Creation
We consider the general process of pair-creation of charged rotating black
holes. We find that instantons which describe this process are necessarily
complex due to regularity requirements. However their associated probabilities
are real, and fully consistent with the interpretation that the entropy of a
charged rotating black hole is the logarithm of the number of its quantum

Detecting Change in the Urban Road Environment Along a Route Based on Traffic Sign and Crossroad Data
Occurrences of traffic signs that belong to certain sign categories and occurrences of crossroads of various topologies are utilized in detecting change in the urban road environment that moves past an ego-car. Three urban environment types, namely downtown, residential and industrial/commercial areas, are considered in the study and changes between these are to be detected. In the preparatory phase, the ego-car is used for traffic sign and crossroads data collection. In the application phase, the ego-car hosts an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) that captures and analyzes images of the road environment and computes the required input data to the proposed road environment detection (RoED) subsystem. A statistical inference method relying on the minimum description length (MDL) principle was applied to the change detection problem at hand. The above occurrences along a route are seen as a realization of an inhomogeneous marked Poisson process. Page-Hinkley change detectors tuned to empirical data were set to work to detect change in the urban road environment. The process and the quality of the change detection are demonstrated via examples from three urban settlements in Hungary.

Can the Mechanism for Hybrid Decays be Detected?
Two mechanisms for the () hybrid meson decay processes
are investigated. These mechanisms are applied to
and decays to
illustrate the validity of the decay mechanisms and to obtain independent
information on the coupling of to quark and gluonic operators.
From this information, we find that
is substantially different
in the two decay mechanisms, and hence future experimental measurements of this
ratio will provide valuable information for substantiating the hybrid nature of

Bounds from Primordial Black Holes with a Near Critical Collapse Initial Mass Function
Recent numerical evidence suggests that a mass spectrum of primordial black
holes (PBHs) is produced as a consequence of near critical gravitational
collapse. Assuming that these holes formed from the initial density
perturbations seeded by inflation, we calculate model independent upper bounds
on the mass variance at the reheating temperature by requiring the mass density
not exceed the critical density and the photon emission not exceed current
diffuse gamma-ray measurements. We then translate these results into bounds on
the spectral index n by utilizing the COBE data to normalize the mass variance
at large scales, assuming a constant power law, then scaling this result to the
reheating temperature. We find that our bounds on n differ substantially
(\delta n > 0.05) from those calculated using initial mass functions derived
under the assumption that the black hole mass is proportional to the horizon
mass at the collapse epoch. We also find a change in the shape of the diffuse
gamma-ray spectrum which results from the Hawking radiation. Finally, we study
the impact of a nonzero cosmological constant and find that the bounds on n are
strengthened considerably if the universe is indeed vacuum-energy dominated
