    A 4-sphere with non central radius and its instanton sheaf

    We build an SU(2)-Hopf bundle over a quantum toric four-sphere whose radius is non central. The construction is carried out using local methods in terms of sheaves of Hopf-Galois extensions. The associated instanton bundle is presented and endowed with a connection with anti-selfdual curvature.Comment: minor changes, appendix section extended.     We associate to any (suitable) bicovariant differential calculus on a quantum group a Cartan Hopf algebra which has a left, respectively right, representation in terms of left, respectively right, Cartan calculus operators.     Electroweak and QCD corrections to top-pair hadroproduction in association with heavy bosons

    We compute the contribution of order αS2α2\alpha_S^2\alpha^2 to the cross section of a top-antitop pair in association with at least one heavy Standard Model boson -- ZZ, W±W^\pm, and Higgs -- by including all effects of QCD, QED, and weak origin and by working in the automated MadGraph5_aMC@NLO framework. This next-to-leading order contribution is then combined with that of order αS3α\alpha_S^3\alpha, and with the two dominant lowest-order ones, αS2α\alpha_S^2\alpha and αSα2\alpha_S\alpha^2, to obtain phenomenological results relevant to a 8, 13, and 100~TeV pppp collider.Comment: 27 pages, 8 figure

    Weak corrections to Higgs hadroproduction in association with a top-quark pair

    We present the calculation of the next-to-leading contribution of order αS2α2\alpha_S^2\alpha^2 to the production of a Standard Model Higgs boson in association with a top-quark pair at hadron colliders. All effects of weak and QCD origin are included, whereas those of QED origin are ignored. We work in the MadGraph5_aMC@NLO framework, and discuss sample phenomenological applications at a 8, 13, and 100 TeV pppp collider, including the effects of the dominant next-to-leading QCD corrections of order αS3α\alpha_S^3\alpha.Comment: 29 pages, 38 figure

    The automation of next-to-leading order electroweak calculations

    We present the key features relevant to the automated computation of all the leading- and next-to-leading order contributions to short-distance cross sections in a mixed-coupling expansion, with special emphasis on the first subleading NLO term in the QCD+EW scenario, commonly referred to as NLO EW corrections. We discuss, in particular, the FKS subtraction in the context of a mixed-coupling expansion; the extension of the FKS subtraction to processes that include final-state tagged particles, defined by means of fragmentation functions; and some properties of the complex mass scheme. We combine the present paper with the release of a new version of MadGraph5_aMC@NLO, capable of dealing with mixed-coupling expansions. We use the code to obtain illustrative inclusive and differential results for the 13-TeV LHC.Comment: 121 pages, 16 figure

    Direct evidence of dust growth in L183 from MIR light scattering

    Theoretical arguments suggest that dust grains should grow in the dense cold parts of molecular clouds. Evidence of larger grains has so far been gathered in near/mid infrared extinction and millimeter observations. Interpreting the data is, however, aggravated by the complex interplay of density and dust properties (as well as temperature for thermal emission). We present new Spitzer data of L183 in bands that are sensitive and insensitive to PAHs. The visual extinction AV map derived in a former paper was fitted by a series of 3D Gaussian distributions. For different dust models, we calculate the scattered MIR radiation images of structures that agree agree with the AV map and compare them to the Spitzer data. The Spitzer data of L183 show emission in the 3.6 and 4.5 micron bands, while the 5.8 micron band shows slight absorption. The emission layer of stochastically heated particles should coincide with the layer of strongest scattering of optical interstellar radiation, which is seen as an outer surface on I band images different from the emission region seen in the Spitzer images. Moreover, PAH emission is expected to strongly increase from 4.5 to 5.8 micron, which is not seen. Hence, we interpret this emission to be MIR cloudshine. Scattered light modeling when assuming interstellar medium dust grains without growth does not reproduce flux measurable by Spitzer. In contrast, models with grains growing with density yield images with a flux and pattern comparable to the Spitzer images in the bands 3.6, 4.5, and 8.0 micron.Comment: 13 pages, 11 figures, accepted for publication in Astronomy and Astrophysic

    The n-acetyl phenylalanine glucosamine derivative attenuates the inflammatory/catabolic environment in a chondrocyte-synoviocyte co-culture system

    Osteoarthritis (OA), the most prevalent degenerative joint disease, still lacks a true disease-modifying therapy. The involvement of the NF-ÎșB pathway and its upstream activating kinases in OA pathogenesis has been recognized for many years. The ability of the N-acetyl phenylalanine glucosamine derivative (NAPA) to increase anabolism and reduce catabolism via inhibition of IKKα kinase has been previously observed in vitro and in vivo. The present study aims to confirm the chondroprotective effects of NAPA in an in vitro model of joint OA established with primary cells, respecting both the crosstalk between chondrocytes and synoviocytes and their phenotypes. This model satisfactorily reproduces some features of the previously investigated DMM model, such as the prominent induction of ADAMTS-5 upon inflammatory stimulation. Both gene and protein expression analysis indicated the ability of NAPA to counteract key cartilage catabolic enzymes (ADAMTS-5) and effectors (MCP-1). Molecular analysis showed the ability of NAPA to reduce IKKα nuclear translocation and H3Ser10 phosphorylation, thus inhibiting IKKα transactivation of NF-ÎșB signalling, a pivotal step in the NF-ÎșB-dependent gene expression of some of its targets. In conclusion, our data confirm that NAPA could truly act as a disease-modifying drug in OA

    Detection of interstellar H_2D^+ emission

    We report the detection of the 1_{10}-1_{11} ground state transition of ortho-H_2D^+ at 372.421 GHz in emission from the young stellar object NGC 1333 IRAS 4A. Detailed excitation models with a power-law temperature and density structure yield a beam-averaged H_2D^+ abundance of 3 x 10^{-12} with an uncertainty of a factor of two. The line was not detected toward W 33A, GL 2591, and NGC 2264 IRS, in the latter source at a level which is 3-8 times lower than previous observations. The H_2D^+ data provide direct evidence in support of low-temperature chemical models in which H_2D^+ is enhanced by the reaction of H_3^+ and HD. The H_2D^+ enhancement toward NGC 1333 IRAS 4A is also reflected in the high DCO^+/HCO^+ abundance ratio. Simultaneous observations of the N_2H^+ 4-3 line show that its abundance is about 50-100 times lower in NGC 1333 IRAS 4A than in the other sources, suggesting significant depletion of N_2. The N_2H^+ data provide independent lower limits on the H_3^+ abundance which are consistent with the abundances derived from H_2D^+. The corresponding limits on the H_3^+$ column density agree with recent near-infrared absorption measurements of H_3^+ toward W 33A and GL 2591.Comment: Standard AAS LaTeX format (15 pages + 2 figures
