We present an investigation of nonlinear interactions between Gravitational Radiation and modified Alfv\'{e}n modes in astrophysical dusty plasmas. Assuming that stationary charged dust grains form neutralizing background in an electron-ion-dust plasma, we obtain the three wave coupling coefficients, and calculate the growth rates for parametrically coupled gravitational radiation and modified Alfv\'{e}n-Rao modes. The threshold value of the gravitational wave amplitude associated with convective stabilization is particularly small if the gravitational frequency is close to twice the modified Alfv\'en wave-frequency. The implication of our results to astrophysical dusty plasmas is discussed.Comment: A few typos corrected. Published in Phys. Rev.

The attendance is taken in every organization. Traditional approach for attendance is, professor calls student name & record attendance. For each lecture this is wastage of time. To avoid these losses, we are about to use automatic process which is based on image processing. In this project approach, we are using face detection & face recognition system. The first phase is pre-processing where the face detection is processed through the step image processing. It includes the face detection and face recognition process. Second phase is feature extraction. Step by step execution of these techniques (Image Processing) helps to achieve the final output. The working of this project is to detect and recognize the face and mark the attendance for the corresponding face in the database. Input of this project is face detection and recognition and output is to mark the attendance. Our project is being presented as a solution for the Automatic Attendance Marking System. It is designed to be reliable and low power. The Automatic face detection and recognition proposed to attendance marking in database acts as the solution for the automatic attendance marking system.

Intra-population Variability for Grain Iron and Zinc Densities in Commercial Open-pollinated Varieties of Pearl Millet

Intra-population variability using S1 progenies was studied for grain iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn) densities and 1000-grain weight in two released and commercial open-pollinated varieties (ICTP 8203 and ICMV 221) of pearl millet. Analysis of variance showed highly significant variability for all the traits in both populations. In ICTP 8203, Fe density varied from 44 to 76 mg kg−1 and Zn density from 40 to 60 mg kg−1; while in ICMV 221, Fe density varied from 40 to 78 mg kg−1 and Zn density from 31 to 52 mg kg−1. Higher broad-sense heritability was observed for both micronutrients in both populations (77% in ICTP 8203 and 86% in ICMV 221 for Fe; and 71% in ICTP 8203 and 72% in ICMV 221 for Zn). This substantial genetic variability coupled with high heritability implies good prospects for improvement of both populations for these micronutrients. The highly significant and high positive correlation observed between Fe and Zn densities (r=0.66 in ICTP 8203 and r=0.72 in ICMV 221, p<0.01), suggested that both micronutrients can be effectively improved simultaneously. Both micronutrients had non-significant or small positive correlation with 1000-grain weight, implying these can be improved in large-seeded genetic backgrounds

ISOLATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF CHITIN FROM PRAWN SHELL WASTE AND INCORPORATION INTO MEDICAL TEXTILES

ABSTRACT Chitin is one of the most abundant natural polysaccharide on earth. Different crustaceans, molluses, marine diatoms, insects, algae, fungi and yeast synthesize it. According to the amount of chitin produced annually over the world, it is second abundant polymer next to cellulose. Recent investigations confirm the suitability of chitin and its derivatives in chemistry, biotechnology, medicine, and food processing, environmental protection and also used as a safe excipient in drug delivery formulations. Our present study focused that on the isolate the prawn shell waste and conversion to chitosan.Chitosan was characterized using IR spectrum and compared with standard to confirm the presence of chitosan in the shell of prawn. We attempted to incorporate latex milk of Euphorbia neriifolia, which has potent medicinal properties with chitosan and check its antimicrobial activity. The results of the present study proved the antimicrobial activity exhibited by the samples incorporated in medical textiles on test organisms

This study evaluates the effects of an acute treatment with a Centella asiatica (CA) extract on the biodistribution of the radiopharmaceutical Na99mTcO4 and on the fixation of technetium-99m on blood constituents. Wistar rats were treated with CA extract and, 1 hour after, Na99mTcO4 was administered; organs/tissues were withdrawn and weighted. The radioactivity was counted to calculate the percentage of activity per gram (%ATI/g). Also, blood samples were withdrawn, plasma (P), blood cells (BC), insoluble fraction (IF) and soluble fractions of P and BC were isolated and the radioactivity was counted to calculate the percentage of activity (%ATI). Data indicated that the acute treatment with CA extract changed significantly (p99mTcO4 and the fixation of the technetium-99m on blood constituents in an acute treatment

A Polypill for primary prevention of cardiovascular disease: A feasibility study of the World Health Organization

Abstract

Background

The feasibility of conducting a large-scale Polypill clinical trial in developing countries remains unclear. More information is needed regarding the efficacy in reducing the risk factors of cardiovascular disease (CVD), side effects, improvement in adherence and physician/patient "acceptability" of the Polypill.

Methods

We conducted an open-label, parallel-group, randomized clinical trial involving three sites in Sri Lanka that enrolled a total of 216 patients without established CVD. The trial compared a Polypill (75 mg aspirin, 20 mg simvastatin, 10 mg lisinopril and 12.5 mg hydrochlorothiazide) to Standard Practice. After randomization, patients were followed monthly for three months. Pre-specified primary outcomes included reduction in systolic blood pressure, total cholesterol and estimated 10-year CVD risk. We also evaluated the recruitment process and acceptability of the Polypill by both physicians and patients.

Results

Patients were recruited in a six-month period as planned. Two hundred three patients (94.0%) completed the treatment program and returned for their three-month follow-up visits. No safety concerns were reported. These findings suggest a high rate of patient acceptability, a finding that is bolstered by the majority of patients completing the trial (90%) indicating that they would take the Polypill "for life" if proven to be effective in reducing CVD risk. Approximately 86% of the physicians surveyed agreed with and supported use of the Polypill for primary prevention and 93% for secondary prevention of CVD. Both the Polypill and Standard Practice resulted in marked reductions in systolic blood pressure, total cholesterol and 10-year risk of CVD. However, the differences between the treatment groups were not statistically significant.

Conclusions

We successfully completed a Polypill feasibility trial in Sri Lanka. We were able to document high acceptability of the Polypill to patients and physicians. We were unable to estimate the risk factor reductions on the Polypill because the control group received similar treatment with individual drugs. The Polypill was however simpler and achieved comparable risk factor reductions, highlighting its potential usefulness in the prevention of CVD.

Trial registration number

ISRCTN: NCT00567307</p

Attitudes and Performance: An Analysis of Russian Workers

This paper investigates the relationship between locus of control and performance among Russian employees, using survey data collected at 28 workplaces in 2002 in Taganrog and at 47 workplaces in 2003 in Ekaterinburg. We develop a measure that allows us to categorize the Russian employees participating in our survey as exhibiting an internal or external locus of control. We then assess the extent to which there are significant differences between “internals” and “externals” in work-related attitudes that may affect performance. In particular, we focus on (1) attitudes about outcomes associated with hard work, (2) level of job satisfaction, (3) expectation of receiving a desired reward, and (4) loyalty to and involvement with one’s organization. In each case we identify where gender and generational differences emerge. Our main objective is to determine whether Russian employees who exhibit an internal locus of control perform better than employees with an external locus of control. Our performance measures include earnings, expected promotions, and assessments of the quantity and quality of work in comparison to others at the same organization doing a similar job. Controlling for a variety of worker characteristics, we find that (1) individuals who exhibit an internal locus of control perform better, but this result is not always statistically significant; (2) even among “internals,” women earn significantly less than men and have a much lower expectation of promotion; (3) even among “internals,” experience with unemployment has a negative influence on performance.http://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/40144/3/wp758.pd
