Bivalve fishery of Bhimili Estuary, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh
The Bhimili Estuary situated in Visakhapatnam
District of Andhra Pradesh is a fairly large but shallow
estuary and supports the livelihood of over 5000
fishers. Nearly 3000 clam/oyster pickers exploit the
bivalve resources of this estuary. Finfishes like
Mugil cephalus and Caranx sp., shrimps such as
Metapenaeus monoceros, Fenneropenaeus indicus,
Penaeus monodon and the crab Scylla serrata are
the major species contributing to the fishery of this
estuary. The Gostani River joins the sea at
Bhimilipatnam carrying freshwater from Anantagiri
hills, Padmanabhan, Boni, Pandrangi, Taditorru,
Gudivada, Chittivalasa,Jutmill,Mulakuddu and
Nagamayyapalem. Clams and oysters are distributed
up to a stretch of 5-6 km from Bhimili municipality
office point. The clam/oyster fishing grounds are
Moolakuddu, Magamayyapalem, Thotepalem,
Chinnanagarama, Asipalem and Gudivada
Impact of weather extremes on Indian food grain production -Winter School on Impact of Climate Change on Indian Marine Fisheries held at CMFRI, Cochin 18.1.2008 to 7.2.2008
Climate change and variability are recent concerns of humankind. The recurrent drought and
desertification threaten seriously the livelihood of over 1.2 billion people who depend on land for most of
their needs. The global economy has adversely been influenced due to droughts and floods, cold and heat
waves, forest fires, landslips and mudslips, icestorms, duststorms, hailstorms, thunder clouds associated
with lightning and sea level ris
Climate change, mitigation and adaptation with reference to agriculture over the humid tropics - Winter School on Impact of Climate Change on Indian Marine Fisheries held at CMFRI, Cochin 18.1.2008 to 7.2.2008 -Winter School on Impact of Climate Change on Indian Marine Fisheries
The Bali road map under UNFCCC highlighted the conclusions of IPCC on climate change across
the World. It indicates that the global warming is real. The Polar ice is melting and sea level will increase.
One-third of our plant and animal species are likely to vanish. There will be famine around the world,
particularly in Africa and central Asia. The Reduction of Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation
(REDD) in developing countries is on top priority as deforestation alone may cause 20 to 25% increase in
greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere. The second major issue is on “Adaptation Fund” designed to
help developing countries dealing with impact of climate change. Therefore, it is pertinent to follow the
guidelines at the regional scale so as to mitigate the ill effects of climate change on war-footing
Cephalopod fishery of Visakhapatnam - trend and present status
Andhra Pradesh contributes nearly 8% to the
total marine fish production of India. The cephalopods
contribute a little over 1% to the total marine fish
landings of Andhra Pradesh. In Andhra Pradesh,
cephalopods are landed by large trawlers (12-14 m,
98/110 HP), known as sona boats and smaller
trawlers (9.5-10 m, 68/90 HP). Total cephalopods
landed during the period 2000-2010 was 23629 t and
the total effort was 37399153. Cephalopod
production increased from 1011 t in 2000 to over 2300
t in 2002. Thereafter there was a declining trend up
to 2006. In 2006-2007, the production increased to
over 2500 t. In 2008, there was a drastic decline.
However, there has been an increasing trend in
production in 2009-2010 (Fig. 1). Cephalopods
contributed 0.53% in 2000 and 1.6% in 2010, to the
total marine fish landings of Andhra Pradesh
(Fig. 1). The annual average cephalopod production
for the period was 2148 t, forming an average 1.04%
of the total marine fish landings in Andhra Pradesh
Efficient LUT Based Filter Design Using Approximate Algorithm
The filter design optimization (FDO) issue is described as finding a strategy of channel coefficients that yields a channel format with scarcest whimsies, fulfilling the channel destinations. It has gotten a mammoth energy by virtue of the regardless of what you look like at it usage of channels. Enduring that the coefficient duplications in the channel course of action are perceived under a move joins fabricating, the adaptable quality is for the most part depicted like the aggregate number of adders and subtractors. In this paper, i exhibit a privilege FDO is upgraded by utilizing Look UP Table approach. APC and OMS paired properties are utilized for actualizing LUT based FIR channel by utilizing APC And OMS decreased the quantity of capacity components right around half. This technique has better execution and it devours less power and possess less space contrast with FDO strategy
Soret and Dufour effects on MHD flow with heat and mass transfer past a permeable stretching sheet in presence of thermal radiation
An analysis has been carried out to study the combined effects of the magnetic field, Joule heating, thermal radiation absorption, viscous dissipation, Buoyancy forces, thermal-diffusion and diffusion-thermion the convective heat and mass transfer flow of an electrically conducting fluid over a permeable vertically stretching sheet. The boundary layer equations for the fluid flow, heat and mass flux under consideration have been obtained and reduced into a system of non-linear ordinary differential equations by using appropriate similarity transformation. Using shooting method coupled with the fourth order Runge-Kutta integration scheme, the numerically solutions have been obtained and presented graphically. The effects of various embedded thermo-physical parameters on the fluid velocity, temperature, skin friction, Nusselt number and Sherwood number have been determined and discussed quantitatively. A comparison of a special case of our results with the one previously reported in the literature shows a very good agreement. An increase in values of thermal radiation, viscous dissipation, suction/injection coefficient and chemical reaction results in the increase of velocity, temperature and heat-mass transfer rates. It is further noted that the velocity, temperature and heat-mass transfer rates reduces on the boundary layer of a permeable vertical stretching sheet due to increase in the values of Soret or decrease in values of Dufour. Further, this work leads to study different flows of electrically conducting fluid over a permeable vertical stretching sheet problem that includes the two dimensional non-linear boundary equations
Ontogenetic alterations in molecular and structural correlates of dendritic growth after developmental exposure to polychlorinated biphenyls.
ObjectivePerinatal exposure to polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) is associated with decreased IQ scores, impaired learning and memory, psychomotor difficulties, and attentional deficits in children. It is postulated that these neuropsychological deficits reflect altered patterns of neuronal connectivity. To test this hypothesis, we examined the effects of developmental PCB exposure on dendritic growth.MethodsRat dams were gavaged from gestational day 6 through postnatal day (PND) 21 with vehicle (corn oil) or the commercial PCB mixture Aroclor 1254 (6 mg/kg/day). Dendritic growth and molecular markers were examined in pups during development.ResultsGolgi analyses of CA1 hippocampal pyramidal neurons and cerebellar Purkinje cells indicated that developmental exposure to PCBs caused a pronounced age-related increase in dendritic growth. Thus, even though dendritic lengths were significantly attenuated in PCB-treated animals at PND22, the rate of growth was accelerated at later ages such that by PND60, dendritic growth was comparable to or even exceeded that observed in vehicle controls. Quantitative reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction analyses demonstrated that from PND4 through PND21, PCBs generally increased expression of both spinophilin and RC3/neurogranin mRNA in the hippocampus, cerebellum, and cortex with the most significant increases observed in the cortex.ConclusionsThis study demonstrates that developmental PCB exposure alters the ontogenetic profile of dendritogenesis in critical brain regions, supporting the hypothesis that disruption of neuronal connectivity contributes to neuropsychological deficits seen in exposed children
