The main interest of this essay is the analysis of the document from the State Archive in Venice (file: Capi del Consiglio de’ Dieci: Lettere di Rettori e di altre cariche) which is connected with the episode from 1748 when the inhabitants of the village Žrnove on the island of Korčula in Croatia opened tombs on the local cemetery in the fear of the vampires treating. This essay try to show some social circumstances connected with this event as well as a local vernacular tradition concerning superstitions

Transformers: A joint model explaining remanent fluxes

    No full text
The magnetic circuit of power transformers is built with magnetic oriented grain sheet. These modern sheets present a more and more narrow static hysteresis cycle, as well as an important remanent flux density, generally larger than 1 tesla. Although such a magnetic circuit necessarily includes joint air gaps, the experiment shows that these don't lead to an appreciable weakening of remanent fluxes. In order to explain the “paradox” of the existence of an important remanent fluxes in the magnetic circuits including air gaps, we propose a new model of joint called "pseudo-variable air gap" allowing to account for the nature of the type of joint: butt or overlap. It is shown that the new model fully explains the existence of an important remanent when the overlap joint has been used (which corresponds to the power transformer case), as well as the nearly total disappearance of the remanent fluxes in case of butt type joint. In addition, this model could be easily implemented in a global transformer model; which contributes to the improvement of the transformer models deriving from the circuit theory

Reconsidering Ampere’s Double Layer Representation for Magnetic Field, Evaluation in a NDE Dection of a zero volume crack

    Get PDF
The paper has two different objectives. The first one is to  show that Ampere’s double layer method, which is equivalent  to one of the Maxwell equations, leads to the integration of a  simple closed form expression, thus avoiding the need to solve  complicated partial differential equations. The second aim is  to study the case of a zero volume defect in a NDE problem by  a perturbation method and the introduction of a double layer.  The combination of these two techniques leads to a very fast  solution of the problem. A practical example includin

A Simple Electromagnetic Analysis of Magnetic NDE Using a Double Rectangular Coil an a Hall Effect Sensor

    Get PDF
In this paper a simple analysis and measurement in eddy current NDE are presented. A Hall probe is associated to a double Printed Circuit Board PCB. The configurations examined involve the coil in air and the coil above aluminum plates, either with or without cracks of various depths. The agreement between experimental and theoretical results is very good, showing that a very simple model accurately describes the electromagnetic fields

A state variables method for the optimization of electrical machines. Application to the acceleration of an inertia

    No full text
The object of the paper is to define and illustrate a method to "synthetize" a motor before optimizing it. The example is the starting of an inertia from rest to full speed by switching on a squirrel cage machine ; supply voltage and frequency are kept constant during starting. It is shown that there are only seven independent variables, and that there is no attainable minimum of the starting time
