    En este art´ıculo presentamos los principios b´asicos de funcionamiento y caracter´ısticas de las c´amaras de campo amplio VWF-2 instaladas en MASTER-ICATE. Las c´amaras, la montura y el domo pueden operarse en forma remota, o bien siguiendo un relevamiento en forma autom´atica. Los instrumentos han sido dise˜nados para estudiar la emisi´on ´optica de eventos GRB (gamma-ray bursts) y realizar la b´usqueda de objetos desconocidos y de eventos ´opticos transitorios (OTs). Este proyecto se lleva a cabo gracias a los esfuerzos de distintas instituciones de Rusia (Lomonosov Moscow State University, Sternberg Astronomical Institute) y de Argentina (ICATE-CONICET, OAFA, UNSJ).This article present the basic principles and characteristics of the very wide field cameras VWF-2 installed in MASTER-ICATE. The cameras, mount and roof enclosure could be remotely operated or follow automatically a specific survey. The instruments have been designed to study the optical prompt emission of GRB events (gamma-ray bursts) and to survey the sky for the detection unknown objects and optical transients (OTs).     En un período de cinco meses y 25 días se investigó la portación intestinal de enterococos resistentes a vancomicina (EVR). Se estudiaron 124 pacientes (73%) de 171 admitidos en la unidad de terapia intensiva (UTI), 35 de los cuales (28%) resultaron ser portadores. Los aislamientos de EVR (n=35) fueron identificados como Enterococcus faecium (n=18), Enterococcus gallinarum (n=16) y Enterococcus raffinosus (n=1). Todos los aislamientos estudiados fueron resistentes a vancomicina (VAN) (CIM90= 512 µg/ml) y teicoplanina (CIM90= 32 µg/ml) y portaban el gen vanA. Los estudios de tipificación molecular mostraron un alto grado de homología entre los aislamientos de E. faecium (un clon dominante) y E. gallinarum (dos tipos clonales), sugiriendo su diseminación a modo de brote. No se encontraron diferencias significativas con la edad y el sexo de los pacientes no portadores (p>0,05), pero si con el tiempo de hospitalización y el uso de esquemas antibióticos de amplio espectro (p<0,05), estando estos dos factores asociados al estado de portación. Se deduce de este estudio, la importancia de maximizar las medidas de prevención y control de las infecciones nosocomiales, analizar los esquemas empíricos empleados, tratar de disminuir el tiempo de hospitalización y continuar con los estudios de vigilancia para evaluar la eficacia de las acciones implementadas.<br>Intestinal tract colonization with vancomycin resistant enterococci (VRE) was studied during five months and 25 days. Out of 171 patients hospitalized in the intensive care unit, 124 (73%) were included in this study. Thirty five of them (28%) were recognized as colonized with VRE. VRE isolates (n = 35) were identified as Enterococcus faecium (n=18), Enterococcus gallinarum (n=16), and Enterococcus raffinosus (n=1). All of them were resistant to vancomycin (MIC90= 512 µg/ml) and to teicoplanin (MIC90= 32 µg/ml), having the vanA gene. By means of molecular methods a high homology was found among E. faecium and E. gallinarum isolates, respectively, suggesting their spread as a kind of outbreak. No significant differences in age or sex were found among colonized and non-colonized patients (p>0.05). On the other hand, the hospitalization time and the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics were associated with colonization. From this study we highlight the importance of enhancing all measures of control and prevention of hospital infections, carefully analyzing the empiric antimicrobial schemes, trying to reduce the hospital stage, and following the surveillance to evaluate the efficacy of such procedures

    Evidence of upwelling events at the northern Patagonian shelf break

    The Patagonian shelf break marks a transition between relative warm-fresh shelf waters and relative cold-salty Subantarctic Water advected northward by the Malvinas Current. From early spring to late autumn, the outer shelf region is characterized by a band of high chlorophyll concentration that sustains higher trophic levels, including significant fisheries. We analyze time series of current and water mass property observations collected at two moorings deployed at the shelf edge at 41 and 43.8 ºS to investigate what mechanisms lead to temperature variability at the shelf break, and their role on the nutrient supply to the upper layer. The in-situ data are combined with satellite-derived observations of sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a to analyze a sharp cooling event at the outer shelf that lasted ten days and extended ~ 500 km along the outer shelf. The event is consistent with upwelling of cold waters through the base of the mixed layer. The vertical velocity required to explain the observed cooling is 13 to 29 m·day-1. Satellite derived sea surface temperature reveal additional cooling events of similar characteristics. Seventy-five percent of these events are concurrent with surface chlorophyll increase over a 5-day period suggesting that cooling events observed at the shelf break are associated with nutrient fluxes that promote the growth of phytoplankton.Fil: Valla, Daniel.     The functional interaction between Acyl-CoA synthetase 4, 5-lipooxygenase and cyclooxygenase-2 controls tumor growth: a novel therapeutic target.

    The acyl-CoA synthetase 4 (ACSL4), which esterify mainly arachidonic acid (AA) into acyl-CoA, is increased in breast, colon and hepatocellular carcinoma. The transfection of MCF-7 cells with ACSL4 cDNA transforms the cells into a highly aggressive phenotype and controls both lipooxygenase-5 (LOX-5) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) metabolism of AA, suggesting a causal role of ACSL4 in tumorigenesis. We hypothesized that ACSL4, LOX-5 and COX-2 may constitute potential therapeutic targets for the control of tumor growth. Therefore, the aim of this study was to use a tetracycline Tet-Off system of MCF-7 xenograft model of breast cancer to confirm the effect of ACSL4 overexpression on tumor growth in vivo. We also aim to determine whether a combinatorial inhibition of the ACSL4-LOX-COX-2 pathway affects tumor growth in vivo using a xenograft model based on MDA-MB-231 cells, a highly aggressive breast cancer cell line naturally overexpressing ACSL4. The first novel finding is that stable transfection of MCF-7 cells with ACSL4 using the tetracycline Tet-Off system of MCF-7 cells resulted in development of growing tumors when injected into nude mice. Tumor xenograft development measured in animals that received doxycycline resulted in tumor growth inhibition. The tumors presented marked nuclear polymorphism, high mitotic index and low expression of estrogen and progesterone receptor. These results demonstrate the transformational capacity of ACSL4 overexpression. We examined the effect of a combination of inhibitors of ACSL4, LOX-5 and COX-2 on MDA-MB-231 tumor xenografts. This treatment markedly reduced tumor growth in doses of these inhibitors that were otherwise ineffective when used alone, indicating a synergistic effect of the compounds. Our results suggest that these enzymes interact functionally and form an integrated system that operates in a concerted manner to regulate tumor growth and consequently may be potential therapeutic targets for the control of proliferation as well as metastatic potential of cancer cells

    First gravitational-wave burst GW150914: MASTER optical follow-up observations

    The Advanced LIGO observatory recently reported the first direct detection of the gravitational waves (GWs) predicted by Einstein & Sitzungsber. We report on the first optical observations of the GW source GW150914 error region with the Global MASTER Robotic Net. Between the optical telescopes of electromagnetic support, the covered area is dominated by MASTER with an unfiltered magnitude up to 19.9 mag (5σ). We detected several optical transients, which proved to be unconnected with the GW event. The main input to investigate the final error box of GW150914 was made by the MASTER-SAAO robotic telescope, which covered 70 per cent of the final GW error box and 90 per cent of the common localization area of the LIGO and Fermi events. Our result is consistent with the conclusion (Abbott et al. 2016a) that GWs from GW150914 were produced in a binary black hole merger.
