Dynamically tuned non-classical light emission from atomic defects in hexagonal boron nitride
AbstractLuminescent defects in hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) have recently emerged as a promising platform for non-classical light emission. On-chip solutions, however, require techniques for controllable in-situ manipulation of quantum light. Here, we demonstrate the dynamic spectral and temporal tuning of the optical emission from h-BN via moving acousto-mechanical modulation induced by stimulated phonons. When perturbed by the propagating acoustic phonon, the optically probed radiative h-BN defects are periodically strained and their sharp emission lines are modulated by the deformation potential coupling. This results in an acoustically driven spectral tuning within a 2.5-meV bandwidth. Our findings, supported by first-principles theoretical calculations, reveal exceptionally high elasto-optic coupling in h-BN of ~50 meV/%. Temporal control of the emitted photons is achieved by combining the acoustically mediated fine-spectral tuning with spectral detection filtering. This study opens the door to the use of sound for scalable integration of h-BN emitters in nanophotonic and quantum information technologies.</jats:p

Families of Canonical Transformations by Hamilton-Jacobi-Poincar\'e equation. Application to Rotational and Orbital Motion
The Hamilton-Jacobi equation in the sense of Poincar\'e, i.e. formulated in
the extended phase space and including regularization, is revisited building
canonical transformations with the purpose of Hamiltonian reduction. We
illustrate our approach dealing with orbital and attitude dynamics. Based on
the use of Whittaker and Andoyer symplectic charts, for which all but one
coordinates are cyclic in the Hamilton-Jacobi equation, we provide whole
families of canonical transformations, among which one recognizes the familiar
ones used in orbital and attitude dynamics. In addition, new canonical

Experience With Bexarotene to Treat Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphomas: A Study of the Spanish Working Group of Cutaneous Lymphomas
Background and objectives: Bexarotene has been approved to treat advanced stage cutaneous T -cell lymphomas (CTCL) since 1999. However, very few data have been published on its long-term safety and efficacy profile. The aim of this study is to determine the tolerability to bexarotene and outcomes by collecting the 2nd largest case series to date on its long-term use vs CTCL. Material and method: This was a multicenter retrospective review of 216 patients with mycosis fungoides (174), or S & eacute;zary syndrome (42) on a 10 -year course of bexarotene alone or in combination with other therapies at 19 tertiary referral teaching hospitals. Results: A total of 133 men (62%) and 83 women (38%) were included, with a mean age of 63.5 year (27 - 95). A total of 45% were on bexarotene monotherapy for the entire study period, 22% started on bexarotene but eventually received an additional therapy, 13% were on another treatment but eventually received bexarotene while the remaining 20% received a combination therapy since the beginning. The median course of treatment was 20.78 months (1 - 114); and the overall response rate, 70.3%. Complete and partial response rates were achieved in 26% and 45% of the patients, respectively. Treatment was well tolerated, being the most common toxicities hypertriglyceridemia (79%), hypercholesterolemia (71%), and hypothyroidism (52%). No treatment -related grade 5 adverse events were reported. Conclusions: Our study confirms bexarotene is a safe and effective therapy for the long-term treatment of CTCL. (c) 2024 AEDV. Quantitative predictions with detuned normal forms
The phase-space structure of two families of galactic potentials is
approximated with a resonant detuned normal form. The normal form series is
obtained by a Lie transform of the series expansion around the minimum of the
original Hamiltonian. Attention is focused on the quantitative predictive
ability of the normal form. We find analytical expressions for bifurcations of
periodic orbits and compare them with other analytical approaches and with
numerical results. The predictions are quite reliable even outside the
convergence radius of the perturbation and we analyze this result using

Ethanol reforming in non-equilibrium plasma of glow discharge
The results of a detailed kinetic study of the main plasma chemical processes
in non-equilibrium ethanol/argon plasma are presented. It is shown that at the
beginning of the discharge the molecular hydrogen is mainly generated in the
reaction of ethanol H-abstraction. Later hydrogen is formed from active H,
CH2OH and CH3CHOH and formaldehyde. Comparison with experimental data has shown
that the used kinetic mechanism predicts well the concentrations of main
species at the reactor outlet.Comment: 16 pages, 8 figure
A Domain-Agnostic Approach for Characterization of Lifelong Learning Systems
Despite the advancement of machine learning techniques in recent years,
state-of-the-art systems lack robustness to "real world" events, where the
input distributions and tasks encountered by the deployed systems will not be
limited to the original training context, and systems will instead need to
adapt to novel distributions and tasks while deployed. This critical gap may be
addressed through the development of "Lifelong Learning" systems that are
capable of 1) Continuous Learning, 2) Transfer and Adaptation, and 3)
Scalability. Unfortunately, efforts to improve these capabilities are typically
treated as distinct areas of research that are assessed independently, without
regard to the impact of each separate capability on other aspects of the
system. We instead propose a holistic approach, using a suite of metrics and an
evaluation framework to assess Lifelong Learning in a principled way that is
agnostic to specific domains or system techniques. Through five case studies,
we show that this suite of metrics can inform the development of varied and
complex Lifelong Learning systems. We highlight how the proposed suite of
metrics quantifies performance trade-offs present during Lifelong Learning
system development - both the widely discussed Stability-Plasticity dilemma and
the newly proposed relationship between Sample Efficient and Robust Learning.
Further, we make recommendations for the formulation and use of metrics to
guide the continuing development of Lifelong Learning systems and assess their
