Representation of perfectly reconstructed octave decomposition filter banks with set of decimators {2,4,4} via tree structure

In this letter, we prove that a filter bank with set of decimators {2,4,4} achieves perfect reconstruction if and only if it can be represented via a tree structure and each branch of the tree structure achieves perfect reconstruction

    Heavy quark photoproduction at THERA

    Get PDF
Measurements of heavy quark production at a possible future epep facility, THERA, would provide valuable information on the structure of the photon. QCD cross-section predictions are made at LO for both charm and beauty production and their sensitivity to current parametrisations of the photon parton densities is investigated.Comment: 10 pages, 9 figures. Representations of linear dual rate system via single SISO LTI filter, conventional sampler and block sampler

    Get PDF
In this brief, it is proved that a linear dual-rate system can be represented via a series cascade of: 1) a conventional expander, a single-input single-output (SISO) linear time-invariant (LTI) filter and a block decimator, or 2) a block expander, an SISO LTI filter and a conventional decimator. Hence, incompatible nonuniform filter banks could achieve perfect reconstruction via LTI filters, conventional samplers and block samplers without expanding the input-output dimension of a subsystem of linear dual-rate systems or converting the nonuniform filter banks to uniform filter banks. The main advantage of the proposed representations is to avoid complicated design of the circuit layout caused by connecting subsystems with large input-output dimension or a lot of subsystems togethe

A proposed DAQ system for a calorimeter at the International Linear Collider

    Get PDF
This note describes R&D to be carried out on the data acquisition system for a calorimeter at the future International Linear Collider. A generic calorimeter and data acquisition system is described. Within this framework modified designs and potential bottlenecks within the current system are described. Solutions leading up to a technical design report will to be carried out within CALICE-UK groups.Comment: 13 pages, 4 figure

Exploring the Use of Virtual Worlds as a Scientific Research Platform: The Meta-Institute for Computational Astrophysics (MICA)

    Get PDF
We describe the Meta-Institute for Computational Astrophysics (MICA), the first professional scientific organization based exclusively in virtual worlds (VWs). The goals of MICA are to explore the utility of the emerging VR and VWs technologies for scientific and scholarly work in general, and to facilitate and accelerate their adoption by the scientific research community. MICA itself is an experiment in academic and scientific practices enabled by the immersive VR technologies. We describe the current and planned activities and research directions of MICA, and offer some thoughts as to what the future developments in this arena may be.Comment: 15 pages, to appear in the refereed proceedings of "Facets of Virtual Environments" (FaVE 2009), eds.
