Promoting the Recovery of a True Mangrove- Avicennia Marina in Ecogeographic Area of Puthuvypeen
A study was conducted in a disturbed mangrove forest that had been gazetted as a site under governmental area. This study provides information regarding the status of disturbed mangroves and can be used as baseline data to support decision making in managing mangrove forests. The study were to determine the tree species exploited in mangrove forest. This recovery study was carried out in the upcoming industrial area of Puthuvypeen. Puthuvypeen ecogeographic area is clearly categorized as a mangrove forest that has a uniform single-layered canopy with trees reaching up to an average 15-25cm GBH and 25-30m in height. Generally there are mixed- mangrove forests of Avicennia marina and Avicennia officinalis . This ecogeographic area of Puthuvypeen may now also be known as “ vanishing mangroves. ” Even under severe degradation, Avicennia marina species still shows its adaptation capacity under stressful condition with re-sprouting from in and around the destroyed trees. In general, the species composition of Puthuvypeen geographic area is rich and the regeneration status is good for the recovery of the species
Stiffness of Contacts Between Rough Surfaces
The effect of self-affine roughness on solid contact is examined with
molecular dynamics and continuum calculations. The contact area and normal and
lateral stiffnesses rise linearly with the applied load, and the load rises
exponentially with decreasing separation between surfaces. Results for a wide
range of roughnesses, system sizes and Poisson ratios can be collapsed using
Persson's contact theory for continuous elastic media. The atomic scale
response at the interface between solids has little affect on the area or
normal stiffness, but can greatly reduce the lateral stiffness. The scaling of
this effect with system size and roughness is discussed.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
A Study on Health Care in Internet of Things
Healthcare becomes one of major economic and social problems around the world, especially in aging people, where it costs tremendous health expanses and resources. The advancement of technology and consistent improvement in machine to machine technologies lead to the era of internet of things (IoT). The new trends in health care are gradually progressing with the help of IoT which may make us more health conscious. This paper reviews the concepts, applications and various existing technologies for health care. We have enumerated the difference between those techniques and brief explanation of scope of IoT in personalized health care
A Unique Presentation of Concomitant Hypo-Hyperdontia in Seven Year Old Child: A Rare Report
Numerical variations of teeth are common. Hypodontia considered being presence of less number of teeth in normal complement while extra teeth to normal dentition are considered as hyperdontia. Hypodontia and hyperdontia are two opposite numerical variations of human dentition and occurrence of these two conditions is called as concomitant hypo-hyperdontia. The occurrence of hypo-hyperdontia in a patient is common. This report describes a rare occurrence of conical shape supernumerary teeth in premolar region and agenesis of tooth 55 and 81 in primary dentition and teeth 15, 25 and 41 in permanent dentition.DOI: 10.14693/jdi.v22i3.97
Hyperon bulk viscosity and -modes of neutron stars
We propose and apply a new parameterization of the modified chiral effective
model to study rotating neutron stars with hyperon cores in the framework of
the relativistic mean-field theory. The inclusion of mesonic cross couplings in
the model has improved the density content of the symmetry energy slope
parameters, which are in agreement with the findings from recent terrestrial
experiments. The bulk viscosity of the hyperonic medium is analyzed to
investigate its role in the suppression of gravitationally driven -modes.
The hyperonic bulk viscosity coefficient caused by non-leptonic weak
interactions and the corresponding damping timescales are calculated and the
-mode instability windows are obtained. The present model predicts a
significant reduction of the unstable region due to a more effective damping of
oscillations. We find that from K to K, hyperonic
bulk viscosity completely suppresses the -modes leading to a stable region
between the instability windows. Our analysis indicates that the instability
can reduce the angular velocity of the star up to 0.3~, where
is the Kepler frequency of the star.Comment: 9 pages, 9 figures; Accepted for publication in MNRA
The effect of photodynamic therapy on oral-premalignant lesions : a systematic review
Dentists now have access to a wide range of unique treatment methods as a result of substantial scientific and technological breakthroughs in the field of dentistry. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a non-invasive treatment procedure that use photosensitize
Soliton-assisted random lasing in optically-pumped liquid crystals
We demonstrate a guided-wave random laser configuration by exploiting the coexistence of optical gain and light self-localization in a reorientational nonlinear medium. A spatial soliton launched by a near-infrared beam in dye-doped nematic liquid crystals enhances and confines stimulated emission of visible light in the optically-pumped gain-medium, yielding random lasing with enhanced features.See also erratum at:Appl. Elevation of conjunctival epithelial CD45INTCD11b⁺CD16⁺CD14⁻ neutrophils in ocular Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis
PURPOSE. Ocular complications related to Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS)–Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN) may persist and progress after resolution of systemic disease. This is thought to be related in part to persistent ocular innate-immune signaling. In this study, our aim was to characterize infiltrative conjunctival cellular profiles during acute (<12 months) and chronic (>12 months) disease. METHODS. Consecutive patients presenting with SJS-TEN over a 12-month period were followed for 1 year. Detailed clinical examination and conjunctival impression cell recovery was analyzed by flow cytometry for the presence of intraepithelial leukocytes and compared with healthy controls (n = 21). RESULTS. Ten patients were recruited of whom six had acute disease and five were classified as TEN (SCORTEN = 1, n = 4). Conjunctival inflammation was graded as absent/mild in a total of nine patients; but despite this, evidence of fornix shrinkage was observed in nine subjects. This inversely correlated with disease duration (P < 0.05). A reduction in percentage of CD8αβ(+) T cells compared with controls (80% vs. 57%; P < 0.01) was associated with a corresponding increase in the number/percentage of CD45(INT)CD11b(+)CD16(+)CD14(−) neutrophils (186 vs. 3.4, P < 0.01, 31% vs. 0.8%, P < 0.001). Neutrophils inversely correlated with disease duration (r = −0.71, P = 0.03), yet there was no absolute change in the CD8αβ(+) or neutrophil populations during the study period (P = 1.0). CONCLUSIONS. These data highlight that a neutrophilic infiltrate is present in mildly inflamed or clinically quiescent conjunctival mucosa in patients with ocular SJS-TEN, where neutrophil numbers inversely correlate with disease duration. Neutrophil persistence endorses the hypothesis of an unresolved innate-inflammatory process that might account for disease progression
Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19):Characteristics in children and considerations for Dentists providing their care
The emergence of the novel virus severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) causing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has led to a global pandemic and one of the most significant challenges to the healthcare profession. Dental practices are focal points for cross-infection, and care must be taken to minimise the risk of infection to, from, or between dental care professionals and patients. The COVID-19 epidemiological and clinical characteristics are still being collated but children's symptoms seem to be milder than those that adults experience. It is unknown whether certain groups, for example children with comorbidities, might be at a higher risk of more severe illness. Emerging data on disease spread in children, affected by COVID-19, have not been presented in detail. The purpose of this article was to report current data on the paediatric population affected with COVID-19 and highlight considerations for dentists providing care for children during this pandemic. All members of the dental team have a professional responsibility to keep themselves informed of current guidance and be vigilant in updating themselves as recommendations are changing so quickly.</p
