Time Reversal Invariance Violating and Parity Conserving effects in Neutron Deuteron Scattering
Time reversal invariance violating parity conserving effects for low energy
elastic neutron deuteron scattering are calculated for meson exchange and
EFT-type of potentials in a Distorted Wave Born Approximation, using realistic
hadronic wave functions, obtained by solving three-body Faddeev equations in
configuration space.Comment: There was a technical mistake in calculations due to singular
behavior of Yukawa functions at short range. We corrected the integration
algorithm. There were some typos which are corrected. arXiv admin note: text

Molecular CP-violating magnetic moment
A concept of CP-violating (T,P-odd) permanent molecular magnetic moments
is introduced. We relate the moments to the electric dipole moment
of electron (eEDM) and estimate for several diamagnetic polar
molecules. The moments exhibit a steep, Z^5, scaling with the nuclear charge Z
of the heavier molecular constituent. A measurement of the CP-violating
magnetization of a polarized sample of heavy molecules may improve the present
limit on eEDM by several orders of magnitude.Comment: 4 pages, no figures, submitted to PR
Toroidal quadrupole transitions associated to collective rotational-vibrational motions of the nucleus
In the frame of the algebraic Riemann Rotational Model one computes the
longitudinal, transverse and toroidal multipoles corresponding to the
excitations of low-lying levels in the ground state band of several even-even
nuclei by inelastic electron scattering (e,e'). Related to these transitions a
new quantity, which accounts for the deviations from the Siegert theorem, is
introduced. The intimate connection between the nuclear vorticity and the
dynamic toroidal quadrupole moment is underlined. Inelastic differential
cross-sections calculated at backscattering angles shows the dominancy of
toroidal form-factors over a broad range of momentum transfer.Comment: 11 pages in LaTex, 3 figures available by fax or mail, accepted for

Coherent information analysis of quantum channels in simple quantum systems
The coherent information concept is used to analyze a variety of simple
quantum systems. Coherent information was calculated for the information decay
in a two-level atom in the presence of an external resonant field, for the
information exchange between two coupled two-level atoms, and for the
information transfer from a two-level atom to another atom and to a photon
field. The coherent information is shown to be equal to zero for all
full-measurement procedures, but it completely retains its original value for
quantum duplication. Transmission of information from one open subsystem to
another one in the entire closed system is analyzed to learn quantum
information about the forbidden atomic transition via a dipole active
transition of the same atom. It is argued that coherent information can be used
effectively to quantify the information channels in physical systems where
quantum coherence plays an important role.Comment: 24 pages, 7 figs; Final versiob after minor changes, title changed;

Production of mesons by high energy neutrinos from the Tevatron
Charged vector meson production is studied in a high energy neutrino bubble chamber experiment with mean neutrino energy of 141 GeV. The are produced in of the neutrino charged current interactions, indicating a steep increase of cross section with energy. The mean fractional hadronic energy of the meson is
Independent impacts of aging on mitochondrial DNA quantity and quality in humans
Background
The accumulation of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) mutations, and the reduction of mtDNA copy number, both disrupt mitochondrial energetics, and may contribute to aging and age-associated phenotypes. However, there are few genetic and epidemiological studies on the spectra of blood mtDNA heteroplasmies, and the distribution of mtDNA copy numbers in different age groups and their impact on age-related phenotypes. In this work, we used whole-genome sequencing data of isolated peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from the UK10K project to investigate in parallel mtDNA heteroplasmy and copy number in 1511 women, between 17 and 85 years old, recruited in the TwinsUK cohorts.
Results
We report a high prevalence of pathogenic mtDNA heteroplasmies in this population. We also find an increase in mtDNA heteroplasmies with age (β = 0.011, P = 5.77e-6), and showed that, on average, individuals aged 70-years or older had 58.5% more mtDNA heteroplasmies than those under 40-years old. Conversely, mtDNA copy number decreased by an average of 0.4 copies per year (β = −0.395, P = 0.0097). Multiple regression analyses also showed that age had independent effects on mtDNA copy number decrease and heteroplasmy accumulation. Finally, mtDNA copy number was positively associated with serum bicarbonate level (P = 4.46e-5), and inversely correlated with white blood cell count (P = 0.0006). Moreover, the aggregated heteroplasmy load was associated with blood apolipoprotein B level (P = 1.33e-5), linking the accumulation of mtDNA mutations to age-related physiological markers.
Conclusions
Our population-based study indicates that both mtDNA quality and quantity are influenced by age. An open question for the future is whether interventions that would contribute to maintain optimal mtDNA copy number and prevent the expansion of heteroplasmy could promote healthy aging
