    Get PDF
L threonine is one of the amino acids exhibiting NLO properties. Study of Manganese sulfate doped in L  threonine has been investigated. Pure L  threonine and doped with MnSO4 were grown by slow evaporation method at room temperature. Good quality & transparent crystals were obtained in a month. . The Powder XRD study shows the tetragonal structure with lattice parameter a = b = 7.506 ├Е and c = 7.555 ├Е. Doping of MnSO4 in L-threonine crystal was confirmed by FTтАУIR spectroscopy. NLO properties & hardness testing was executed for grown crystal. Poor SHG efficiency of grown crystal was observed as compared to KD

Evaluation of erythrocyte membrane lipids and proteins in renal disorders

Background: Membrane lipids and proteins play a significant part in imparting membrane its rheological properties. These parameters are altered in diseased states. Exploring the conformational changes in renal disorders can widen our understanding of its impact on the circulatory system. This could lead to a new diagnostic parameter to study the progress of a disease. Methods: 120 blood samples collected from 30 kidney donors, 30 stage 3-4 Chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients (group 1) and 30 stage 5 CKD patients on dialysis (pre and post dialysis) (group 2) were lysed and washed to obtain erythrocyte ghost membranes. The proteins extracted from these membranes were estimated colorimetrically using Micro BCA kit. Phospholipids were separated and quantified using HPTLC. Fatty acids and cholesterol were analysed using GCMS.Results: The erythrocyte membrane protein profile showed lower values in group 2 participants than group 1 participants, but this difference was not significant. Distinct decreases in percentages of palmitic acid, myristic acid, stearic acid, dodecanoic acid, cholesterol, phosphatidylserine, phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine were observed in both groups, with the lowest values in patients undergoing dialysis. Sphingomyelin and linoleic acid did not show any such trend across groups. Conclusions: The data is suggestive of an altered membrane structure in participants undergoing dialysis patients than the control group. This could be because of uremic toxins in the circulatory system affecting the membrane lipids. Decreased levels of essential phospholipids can impact the functions and lifespan of the erythrocytes. This could be a reason behind anaemia seen in most patients with CKD

Heavy landings of snappers at Mumbai with notes on the biology of Lutjanus argentimaculatus (Forsskal, 1975) and Lutjanus johnii (Bloch,1792)

Snappers are considered valuable seafood delicacy and enjoy great demand in international market. Snapper landings in Maharashtra have increased over a period of time. The major species of snappers landed in Maharashtra is Lutjanus johnii which is accompanied by occasional landings of Lutjanus argentimaculatus

Data Privacy and Technological Ethics in Rural Area

In today's world of rapid increasing of technology, Data privacy and Ethics has become a major concern. The complexity of data and ethics poses incredible issues by collecting user personal information in digital world. the Digital service company usually bear responsibility of protecting users' personal data from unauthorized access however issue arise when service provider and platforms do not protect user collective data, and this led to data misuse and exposing sensible data of the person. To handling once data responsibly and ethically is important for safeguarding people's rights and preserving public trust. This study examines the ethical challenges in emerging technologies, including data privacy and ethics. The paper aims to provide awareness of data privacy and ethics in technology

Observations on the fecundity of Rhynchobatus djiddensis (Forskal, 1775)

    Get PDF
The resource is not targeted but is landed as a by-catch. However, when compared to 1960s and 1970s the landing of R. rijiddensis are very less indicating overfishing. As it is included as a Vulnerable (VU) one in the mCN Red list the fishes should be tlu'own back in to the sea, if alive, as a conservation measure. There is also a need to emphasise the need to conduct the detailed maturity and reproduction studies for better conservation practices. The observations in respect of the fecundity of this species in this contribution can be used as a baseline data for further studies on the reproductive biology of the fish which would help in formulating a conservation policy towards sustaining and conserving this specie

Storage behavior of potato cultivars under ambient conditions in the Nilgiris

    Get PDF
Storage behavior of different potato cultivars viz., Kufri Swarna, Kufri Girdhari, Kufri Jyoti, Kufri Neelima and Kufri Himalini was assessed for post harvest loss under ambient storage conditions of Nilgiri region. The study was carried out in three different seasons (Spring, Summer and Autumn) during 2013-2015. All the cultivars showed dormancy period of more than six weeks in all the three seasons. Cultivars varied widely in their weight loss, sprouting behavior and cooking quality. Among the varieties Kufri Girdhari found to possess good storage qualities while Kufri Swarna showed poor keeping quality in all the three seasons. All the cultivars recorded less total weight loss during autumn season. The study indicated that importance should be given to the storage behavior of the cultivars along with yield in order to have better keeping quality for regular supply of tubers for table as well as seed purpose

Chronic non-bacterial osteomyelitis of distal ulna in a paediatric patient: a case report and review of literature

    Get PDF
Chronic non-bacterial osteomyelitis (CNO) is a rare disorder characterized by focal aseptic inflammation with a self-limiting, relapsing course of disease with female predominance and usually observed in paediatric age groups diagnosed by clinical, radiological and histopathological findings after ruling out all other differentials. We reported this rare case found in a 7 year old female with a history of greenstick fracture of distal ulna 3 years ago with flaring up of pain and swelling since trivial trauma to left wrist 1 month ago. We emphasize on the relevant data and findings to reach the conclusive diagnosis and treatment of the disease. CNO can present as benign unifocal non-relapsing to more severe form of multifocal relapsing inflammatory lesions involving metaphysis of long bones, vertebrae, clavicle and mandible. Diagnosis is made after excluding infection, malignancy, auto-immune and metabolic disorders. Treatment is mainly empirical to reduce pain and inflammation through NSAIDs, corticosteroids, bisphosphonates and sometimes TNF alpha inhibitors as no proper guidelines are available

Assessing intravenous midazolam for conscious sedation during cataract surgery

Background: A large number of geriatric populations above the age of 50 worldwide suffer from cataract. Cataract starts with short-sightedness and gradually worsens resulting in blurring of vision and inability to visualize and distinguish fine details. Surgery is the only available treatment for cataract. Anaesthesia is essential during cataract surgery to minimize pain caused during surgical procedure and to achieve favourable surgical outcome. The current investigation was aimed towards assessing the performance of intravenous midazolam used for conscious sedation during cataract surgery along with retrobulbar block. Methods: Current study is a randomized double blinded study performed for duration of 6 months on 60 patients undergoing cataract surgery at Terna medical college and hospital. Patients were divided in two groups; group M received 0.02 mg/kg midazolam diluted to 5 ml, group N received 5 ml normal saline before cataract surgery. All vital hemodynamic parameters were observed after 5 minutes of sedation, immediately after block administration and after every 15 minutes till the end of the surgery to assess the effect of sedation. Patients and surgeons satisfaction levels were also documented post-surgery.Results: Patients who were sedated with midazolam prior to cataract surgery along with block exhibited a significant decrease in hemodynamic parameters like SAP, DAP and heart rate which indicated effective sedation. Anxiety level also significantly decreased in the patients who received midazolam. No major adverse or intra-operative events were observed in the patients who received midazolam. Conclusions: Sedation with midazolam provides haemodynamic conditions favourable for cataract surgery along with high level of patient and surgeon satisfaction
