    Artificial insemination studies in Macrobrachium idella (Hilgendorf, 1898)

    A simple method for artificial insemination of Macrobrachium idella has been developed. Observations on virili ty in different size groups of males have been reported. The insemination procedu re involved extrusion of spermatophores by electrical stimulus and attachment of sperm mass at the receptive area of newly moulted normal and eye ablated females. Manually placed spermatophorcs were retained through spawning. Fertilization was obtained and eggs fertilized in this way, hatched to normal healthy larvae. The exact lime for placement of spermatophores after the pre-spawning moult of female has been worked oul. Further successful spawning could be obse rved for more than one female simultaneously by using whole sperm mass of a single male. Freshly extruded spermalophores and those stored in refrigerated condition (6°q for different lime duration have al so been used in inseminating females artificially with good success

    AN OVERVIEW OF RATIONAL PRESCRIBING PATTERN IN HYPERTENSIVE PATIENTS IN TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL

    Objective: To study the prescribing patterns of antihypertensive (AHT) drugs in hypertensive (HTN) patients and hypertension with diabetes mellitus (HTN with DM) patients in tertiary care hospital, to assess the rationality of prescribing patterns, to compare the hypertension management with Joint National Committee-7 guidelines (JNC-7).Methods: A prospective study was conducted over a period of 6 mo in the medicine department of Bharati Hospital and Research Centre, Pune. HTN and (HTN with DM patients. Who met the study criteria were enrolled in the study. The pattern of antihypertensive medications prescribed was studied and analyzed using Microsoft excel 2010 and Statistical. The rational prescribing pattern was assessed by using JNC 7 guidelines and World Health Organization (WHO) indicators.Results: Total of 60 patients included in this study, 43 (71.7 %) were HTN patients, and 17 (28.3 %) were HTN with DM patients. There were 29 (48.33 %) males and 31 (51.66 %) female patients were involved. 45 % of patients had pre-hypertension, 33.33 % had stage-1 hypertension, 8.4 % had stage-2 hypertension other 13.33 % patients are on Antihypertensive medications and whose Blood Pressure (BP) were normal according to JNC-7. In hypertensive 47.05 % patient had prescribed Calcium Channel Blockers (CCBs) as monotherapy along with 87.5 % Angiotensin Receptor Blockers (ARBs) with diuretics as combination therapy. In HTN with DM 46.15 % patients had prescribed Angiotensin Converting Enzymes (ACEs) as monotherapy along with 62.5 % CCBs with BBs were prescribed according to JNC-7. As per WHO indicators, average no. of medicines prescribed per prescription was 2.91 and all antihypertensive medicines in the study population were prescribed rationally.Conclusion: The present study represents the current prescribing trend for antihypertensive agents. It implies that.     Study of development and utilization of a multipurpose atmospheric corrosion sensor

    There has been a critical need for analyzing various aspects of atmospheric corrosion and for the development of atmospheric corrosion microsensors. The project work has involved the following activities: (1) making of multielectrode corrosion monitors on dielectric substrates; (2) testing them in the laboratory for functional characteristics; (3) preparing a report on the state of the art of atmospheric corrosion sensor development around the world; and (4) corrosion testing of electrochemical changes of sensor specimens and related fog testing. The study included work on the subject of development and utilization of a multipurpose atmospheric corrosion sensor and this report is the annual report on work carried out on this research project. This has included studies on the development of sensors of two designs, stage 1 and stage 2, and with glass and alumina substrate, experimentation and development and characterization of the coating uniformity, aspects of corrosion monitoring, literature search on the corrosion sensors and their development.     Testing whether muon neutrino flavor mixing is maximal

    The small difference between the survival probabilities of muon neutrino and antineutrino beams, traveling through earth matter in a long baseline experiment such as MINOS, is shown to be an important measure of any possible deviation from maximality in the flavor mixing of those states.Comment: Some revision has been made in the experimental discussions with two new figures replacing the old ones and a clarification of the accuracy of the perturbative result has been included.     Tests of the Standard Model Using Muon Polarization Asymmetries in Kaon Decays

    We have examined the physics and the experimental feasibility of studying various kaon decay processes in which the polarization of a muon in the final state is measured. Valuable information on CP violation, the quark mixing (CKM) matrix, and new physics can be obtained from such measurements. We have considered muon polarization in K_L to mu+ mu- and K to pi mu+ mu- decays. Although the effects are small, or difficult to measure because of the small branching ratios involved, these studies could provide clean measurements of the CKM parameters. The experimental difficulty appears comparable to the observation of K to pi nu barnu. New sources of physics, involving non-standard CP violation, could produce effects observable in these measurements. Limits from new results on the neutron and electron electric dipole moment, and epsilon-prime over epsilon in neutral kaon decays, do not eliminate certain models that could contribute to the signal. A detailed examination of muon polarization out of the decay plane in KMU3 and radiative KMU2 decays also appears to be of interest. With current kaon beams and detector techniques, it is possible to measure the T-violating polarization for KMU3 with uncertainties approaching 0.0001. This level of sensitivity would provide an interesting probe of new physics.Comment: 24 pages, 3 figures, To be published in the International Journal of Modern Physics
