Finite size and intrinsic field effect on the polar-active properties of the ferroelectric-semiconductor heterostructures
Using Landau-Ginzburg-Devonshire approach we calculated the equilibrium
distributions of electric field, polarization and space charge in the
ferroelectric-semiconductor heterostructures containing proper or incipient
ferroelectric thin films. The role of the polarization gradient and intrinsic
surface energy, interface dipoles and free charges on polarization dynamics are
specifically explored. The intrinsic field effects, which originated at the
ferroelectric-semiconductor interface, lead to the surface band bending and
result into the formation of depletion space-charge layer near the
semiconductor surface. During the local polarization reversal (caused by the
inhomogeneous electric field induced by the nanosized tip of the Scanning Probe
Microscope (SPM) probe) the thickness and charge of the interface layer
drastically changes, it particular the sign of the screening carriers is
determined by the polarization direction. Obtained analytical solutions could
be extended to analyze polarization-mediated electronic transport.Comment: 35 pages, 12 figures, 1 table, 2 appendices, to be submitted to Phys.

Elastic Charge Form Factors of and K Mesons
The elastic charge form factors of the charged and mesons are
calculated in modified impulse approximation using instant form of relativistic
Hamiltonian dynamics. Our approach gives pion and kaon electromagnetic form
factors in the large range of momentum transfer. The results are in good
agreement with the available data. Relativistic effects are large at all values
of momentum transfers. The pion and kaon form factors at large depend
strongly on the choice of model. The experiments on pion form factor at large
momentum transfer planned at CEBAF will choose between such models. In the case
of kaon such a choosing may be performed only if supplemented by accurate
measurements of kaon MSR.Comment: 9 pages, LaTeX, 2 uuencoded PostScript figure
Hyperfine structure of the ground state muonic He-3 atom
On the basis of the perturbation theory in the fine structure constant
and the ratio of the electron to muon masses we calculate one-loop
vacuum polarization and electron vertex corrections and the nuclear structure
corrections to the hyperfine splitting of the ground state of muonic helium
atom . We obtain total result for the ground state hyperfine
splitting MHz which improves the previous
calculation of Lakdawala and Mohr due to the account of new corrections of
orders and . The remaining difference between our
theoretical result and experimental value of the hyperfine splitting lies in
the range of theoretical and experimental errors and requires the subsequent
investigation of higher order corrections.Comment: Talk on poster section of XXIV spectroscopy congress, 28 February-5

RQM description of the charge form factor of the pion and its asymptotic behavior
The pion charge and scalar form factors, and , are first
calculated in different forms of relativistic quantum mechanics. This is done
using the solution of a mass operator that contains both confinement and
one-gluon-exchange interactions. Results of calculations, based on a one-body
current, are compared to experiment for the first one. As it could be expected,
those point-form, and instant and front-form ones in a parallel momentum
configuration fail to reproduce experiment. The other results corresponding to
a perpendicular momentum configuration (instant form in the Breit frame and
front form with ) do much better. The comparison of charge and scalar
form factors shows that the spin-1/2 nature of the constituents plays an
important role. Taking into account that only the last set of results
represents a reasonable basis for improving the description of the charge form
factor, this one is then discussed with regard to the asymptotic QCD-power-law
behavior . The contribution of two-body currents in achieving the right
power law is considered while the scalar form factor, , is shown to
have the right power-law behavior in any case. The low- behavior of the
charge form factor and the pion-decay constant are also discussed.}Comment: 30 pages, 10 figure
BIOTIC DIVERSITY OF KARELIA: CONDITIONS OF FORMATION, COMMUNITIES AND SPECIES
The monograph generalises vast data characterising the diversity of the biota in Russian Karelia. The data pool includes both materials of long-term studies, and new data collected in 1997–2000 within the Russian-Finnish project “Inventory and studies of biological diversity in Republic of Karelia”. The volume is composed of four interrelated chapters. Chapter one provides a detailed account of the climatic, geological, geomorphological, hydrological and soil conditions in which the regional biota has been forming. Chapter two describes and evaluates the diversity of forest, mire and meadow communities, and the third chapter details the terrestrial biota at the species level (vascular plants, mosses, aphyllophoroid fungi, lichens, mammals, birds, insects). A special section is devoted to the flora and fauna of aquatic ecosystems (algae, zooplankton, periphyton, macrozoobenthos, fishes). Wide use is made of various zoning approaches based on biodiversity-related criteria. Current status of the regional biota, including its diversity in protected areas, is analysed with elements of the human impact assessment. A concise glossary of the terms used is annexed.
This is an unprecedentally multi-faceted review, at least for the taiga zone of European Russia. The volume offers extensive reference materials for researchers in a widest range of ecological and biological fields, including graduate and post-graduate students. The monograph is also available in Russian
