Comments on the Refractive Index of Tin Sulphide Nano-crystalline Thin Films

The refractive indices of nano-crystalline thin films of Tin (IV) Sulphide (SnS) were investigated here. The experimental data conformed well with the single oscillator model for refractive indices. Based on the this, we explain the increasing trend of refractive index to the improvement in crystal ordering with increasing grain size.Comment: Nine figure

A field study on population dynamics of citrus whitefly, Dialeurodes citri (Ashmead) on citrus mandarin (var. Kinnow) was carried out during 2014-15 at Centre of Excellence (COE) for Fruits situated in village Mangiana of district Sirsa, Haryana. The population of nymphs and adults of this pest was recorded from March 2014 to February 2015 at weekly interval. The nymphal population of the pest was observed only between 12th to 47th meteorological standard weeks (SW) with two major peaks i.e. one during 16th SW with a population of 83.44 nymphs/ 20 leaves and the second during 40th SW with a population of 133.22 nymphs/20 leaves. The above said population dynamics confirmed that this pest remained inactive in pupal stage during winter i.e. 48th to 11th SW. Similar trend was observed in respect of adult population. Nymphal population showed significant positive correlation with morning relative humidity (r = 0.329) and sunshine hours (r = 0.362), while adult population was found to have positive correlation with sunshine hours only (r = 0.332). Multiple regression analysis of the pest population with environment variables indicated that out of 45 per cent variability in nymphal population, 37 per cent was due to relative humidity and sunshine hours. Out of the total variability of 30 per cent variation in adult population, 20 per cent was due to evening relative humidity, while 10 per cent attributed to sunshine hours. The other weather parameters were found to have no significant correlation with the pest population. Although study of population dynamics of this study were conducted elsewhere but this is first study of its kind in the state of Haryana. The population dynamics revealed by this study have far reaching significance in pest management strategy as integrated control measures may be focused only during the period wherein population exceeds economic threshold level (ETL). The information on population dynamics of any insect pest in a given ecological niche should be considered as starting point for evolving eco - friendly pest management package

Impulsive noise removal from color images with morphological filtering

This paper deals with impulse noise removal from color images. The proposed noise removal algorithm employs a novel approach with morphological filtering for color image denoising; that is, detection of corrupted pixels and removal of the detected noise by means of morphological filtering. With the help of computer simulation we show that the proposed algorithm can effectively remove impulse noise. The performance of the proposed algorithm is compared in terms of image restoration metrics and processing speed with that of common successful algorithms.Comment: The 6th international conference on analysis of images, social networks, and texts (AIST 2017), 27-29 July, 2017, Moscow, Russi

237-242Fruits and vegetables are perishable; they don’t have a shelf life. They contain so much water that their logistic become difficult. Drying is both heat and mass exchange energy activity, mainly utilized as a food preservation technique. Fresh collected ginger has effectively dried from starting moisture content of 86% wet basis (w.b.) to the safe storage moisture content of 13% - 14% (w.b.) in Open Sun Drying (OSD) and hot air oven solar dryers. It has been found that the hot air dryer of the glass-to-glass module took less time (8hrs) as compared to the hot air dryer of an opaque module (10hrs) and Open Sun Drying (OSD) (14hrs). The drying behavior of ginger slices have been analyzed using various mathematical models. Page model has explained the drying behavior of ginger precisely with maximum values of coefficient of determinationi.e.,0.996, 0.997, and 0.994for hot air dryer of glass-to-glass module, opaque module, and OSD respectively, and has minimum reduced chi-square, mean bias error, and root mean square error

Magnetic Proximity induced efficient charge-to-spin conversion in large area PtSe2_{2}/Ni80_{80}Fe20_{20} heterostructures

As a topological Dirac semimetal with controllable spin-orbit coupling and conductivity, PtSe2_2, a transition-metal dichalcogenide, is a promising material for several applications from optoelectric to sensors. However, its potential for spintronics applications is yet to be explored. In this work, we demonstrate that PtSe2_{2}/Ni80_{80}Fe20_{20} heterostructure can generate a large damping-like current-induced spin-orbit torques (SOT), despite the absence of spin-splitting in bulk PtSe2_{2}. The efficiency of charge-to-spin conversion is found to be (βˆ’0.1Β±0.02)(-0.1 \pm 0.02)~nmβˆ’1^{-1} in PtSe2_{2}/Ni80_{80}Fe20_{20}, which is three times that of the control sample, Ni80_{80}Fe20_{20}/Pt. Our band structure calculations show that the SOT due to the PtSe2_2 arises from an unexpectedly large spin splitting in the interfacial region of PtSe2_2 introduced by the proximity magnetic field of the Ni80_{80}Fe20_{20} layer. Our results open up the possibilities of using large-area PtSe2_{2} for energy-efficient nanoscale devices by utilizing the proximity-induced SOT.Comment: 18 pages, 4 figure

A similarity solution for phase change of binary alloy with shrinkage or expansion

    Get PDF
A similarity solution for solidification of an undercooled binary alloy is developed including the effect of shrinkage or expansion due to change in the density. The proposed similarity solution takes into account the change in density of the alloy while undergoing a phase change. Thermo-physical properties are assumed to be constant. An analytical solution (which is an outcome of the similarity solution) for temperature and concentration distribution has been established. The effect of the density ratio and Lewis number on both interface motion and conjugate heat and mass transfer is studied. It is found that the interface moves faster with the decrease in density ratio and initial temperature during solidification

Not AvailableCrop diversification is considered as a pathway for holistic agricultural development. Odisha with a rural sex ratio of 989 bears a tradition of dynamic involvement of women in agriculture across the operations. The present paper examines the intricacies of crop diversification in Odisha in women perspective. The decadal data analysis (2010–19) indicated sluggishness and inconsistency in crop diversification in the state. A regional divide in spread of crop diversification as well as women cultivators was observed in southern districts vis-Γ -vis coastal districts of Odisha. Significant correlation was observed among female cultivators, female agricultural work participation rate, mechanization, and livestock with crop diversification. Based on the panel data analysis, the study concluded that in Odisha; districts with higher female cultivators and maximum Agricultural work participation rate contributed more to crop diversification. Not Availabl

Not AvailableTwo contour hedgerow (Gliricidia sepium and Leucaena leucocephala) systems with and without miniature trenches were evaluated as conservation measures in the shifting cultivated degraded Eastern Ghats Highlands of Odisha, India. Staggered planting of hedgerows at 0.5 9 0.5 m spacing in two parallel lines with miniature trenches (0.3 m width and 0.3 m depth) in between two lines were laid out across 5 and 10 % slopes. The treatment Gliricidia + miniature trench (G+MT) reduced runoff by 23.3–32.5 %, soil loss by 49.5–52.7 %, loss of soil organic carbon (SOC), N, P, and K by 44.1–47.6, 61.5–62.2, 54.8–58.1, and 53.1–56.3 %, espectively, over no conservation treatment (control), whereas the same for the treatment Leucaena +miniature trench (L+MT) was 18.6–18.9, 42.4–43.7, 30.9–40.2, 41.9–56.3, 47.3–47.9, and 38.5–47.8 %, respectively, over control. Within 0–20 cm soil profile, G?MT sequestered 1.62 Mg ha-1 year-1 SOC, of which 0.93 Mg ha-1 year-1 was sequestered due to soil reclamation and 0.69 Mg ha-1 year-1 was retained due to the barrier effect, whereas L?MT sequestered 1.21 Mg ha-1 year-1 SOC. The trench treatments with Gliricidia and Leucaena hedgerows were 3.8–4.7 and 3.7–5.3 % more efficient to stock SOC within 40 cm soil profile than no trench treatment. The decrease of SOC stock by 40–102 kg ha-1 year-1 in the control plots from the initial level indicated the ongoing erosion process in unprotected lands. The findings will help to promote hedgerow based agroforestry for resource conservation and improved SOC sequestration in sloping lands. Not Availabl
