Neonatal Myocardial Infarction or Myocarditis?
We report a 29 week-gestation preterm infant who presented during his second week of life with cardiogenic shock. Clinical presentation and first diagnostics suggested myocardial infarction, but echocardiographic features during follow-up pointed to a diagnosis of enteroviral myocarditis. The child died of chronic heart failure at 9 months of age. Autopsy showed passed myocardial infarction. No signs for active myocarditis were found. We discuss the difficulties in differentiating between neonatal myocardial infarction and myocarditis. Recognizing enteroviral myocarditis as cause for cardiogenic shock is of importance because of the therapeutic options
Catalytic upgrading of refinery cracked products by trans-hydrogenation: a review
The production of high premium fuel is an issue of priority to every refinery. The trans-hydrogenation process is devised to convert two low valued refinery cracked products to premium products; the conversion processes involve the combination of dehydrogenation and hydrogenation reaction as a single step process. The paper reviews the recent literature on the use of catalysts to convert low value refinery products (i.e. alkanes and alkynes or alkadienes) to alkenes (olefins) by trans-hydrogenation. Catalysts based on VOx, CrOx and Pt all supported on alumina have been used for the process. However, further studies are still required to ascertain the actual reaction mechanism, mitigating carbon deposition and catalyst deactivation, and the role of different catalysts to optimize the reaction desired products
Use of ring-expanded diamino- and diamidocarbene ligands in copper catalyzed azide-alkyne "click" reactions
The
two-coordinate ring-expanded N-heterocyclic carbene copperÂ(I)
complexes [CuÂ(RE-NHC)2]+ (RE-NHC = 6-Mes, 7-<i>o</i>-Tol, 7-Mes) have been prepared and shown to be effective
catalysts under neat conditions for the 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition
of alkynes and azides. In contrast, the cationic diamidocarbene analogue
[CuÂ(6-MesDAC)2]+ and the neutral species [(6-MesDAC)ÂCuCl]2 and [(6-MesDAC)2(CuCl)3] show good
activity when the catalysis is performed on water
Zerovalent palladium (N-heterocyclic carbene) complexes for transfer hydrogenation of alkynes
Synthesis of bis-N-alkyl imidazolium salts and their palladium(0)(NHC)(η2-MA)2 complexes
New N-Alkyl-substituted imidazolium salts as well as a series of their corresponding [Pd(NHC)(MA)2] complexes have been obtained by three routes in good yield. The previously reported synthesis for the analogous N-aryl substituted [Pd(NHC)(MA)2] complexes has been improved. The N-alkyl-substituted [Pd(NHC)(MA)2] complexes are thermally more labile than their N-aryl counterparts. Catalytic transfer semi-hydrogenation of phenylpropyne resulted in good to excellent chemo- and stereo- selectivity conversion into (Z)-phenylpropene. The size of the alkyl substituents correlates with the rate of hydrogenation in the sense that more bulky substituents give rise to faster transfer hydrogenation rates.
