    Multi-tenant Pub/Sub processing for real-time data streams

    Get PDF
Devices and sensors generate streams of data across a diversity of locations and protocols. That data usually reaches a central platform that is used to store and process the streams. Processing can be done in real time, with transformations and enrichment happening on-the-fly, but it can also happen after data is stored and organized in repositories. In the former case, stream processing technologies are required to operate on the data; in the latter batch analytics and queries are of common use. This paper introduces a runtime to dynamically construct data stream processing topologies based on user-supplied code. These dynamic topologies are built on-the-fly using a data subscription model defined by the applications that consume data. Each user-defined processing unit is called a Service Object. Every Service Object consumes input data streams and may produce output streams that others can consume. The subscription-based programing model enables multiple users to deploy their own data-processing services. The runtime does the dynamic forwarding of data and execution of Service Objects from different users. Data streams can originate in real-world devices or they can be the outputs of Service Objects. The runtime leverages Apache STORM for parallel data processing, that combined with dynamic user-code injection provides multi-tenant stream processing topologies. In this work we describe the runtime, its features and implementation details, as well as we include a performance evaluation of some of its core components. This work is partially supported by the European Research Council (ERC) un- der the EU Horizon 2020 programme (GA 639595), the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitivity (TIN2015-65316-P) and the Generalitat de Catalunya (2014-SGR-1051).Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

Following some general remarks on scribes during the Old Regime, the article focuses on the types and functions of scribes attached to the Habsburg court in Madrid, and in particular to its criminal tribunals. Working under the «Sala de alcaldes de casa y corte», the officers charged with oversight of matters affecting the court, these scribes were endowed with quite extensive powers and freedom of action. Hence too the many excesses, abuses and transgressions they committed, studied here in terms of their image in contemporary literature or as documented in a judicial visitation of 1608, which suggest an attitude of official tolerance of such illicit behavior.Publicad

Digital preservation has become an area of interest and a challenge for the institutions dedicated to preserving heritage. It has been in operation since 2010. COFRE was initially promoted to meet the needs of the library itself, though it has always held the intention and vision to house other institutions, thereby providing a service for the country. Professional profile of graduates with a degree in physical activity and sports science in Spain

The new job opportunities that resulted from the growth of the sports industry, due to the impact of sports on society and the increase of sports practice, along with the concern about the influence of such practice on health, have led experts in this field to demand the professionalization of the sector. Thereby, a regulatory development is being carried out, which, although at the regional level, recognises the professions of sports, determining the official academic titles or professional qualifications required for the professional practice and assigning to each profession its corresponding functional scope. Despite the fact that the affiliation rate of the Professional Association of Graduates in Physical Activity and Sports Science does not exceed 15% of the university graduates in Spain, such rate has increased in the last years. As an example, in Andalusia, the number of members has doubled in the last four years. This increase in affiliation may be a reflection of the professionalization process that the sports sector has been experiencing. The aim of this study was to determine the professional profile of graduates with a university degree in Physical Activity and Sports Science. As the main results, there continues to be a higher percentage of men who opt to take these courses, most of them have complementary training/education and there is a high percentage of multiple employment, that is, they combine more than one job, although teaching is still the most popular profession of choice. However, the percentage of graduates who choose teaching as a career is decreasing, which could be due to the diversification of the sector and of the sports professions
