con distribuciones de colas pesadas: t-Student (S) y error generalizada (GED);
This paper uses daily data from stock and Forex markets in order to estimate GARCH
and GJR models comparing emerging countries with high-income countries. In both
models, the Normal distribution is taken as the basis and some heavy-tailed distributions
are considered: the Student t-distribution, the GED distribution, the NIG distribution
and the NRIG distribution, all in their symmetric and skewed versions to
capture the characteristics of the returns. The main results are as follows: (i) in all
markets and countries, models with heavy-tailed distributions are selected: Student’s
t (S) and generalized error (GED); (ii) it is important to include the leverage effect for
stock markets, but this is not conclusive for the Forex markets; (iii) incorporating an
asymmetric distribution in returns is necessary for all equity markets, although this is
not necessary for some currency markets
Optimal Placement and sizing of D-STATCOM in radial and meshed distribution networks using a discrete-continuous version of the genetic algorithm
In this paper, we propose a new discrete-continuous codification of the Chu–Beasley genetic algorithm to address the optimal placement and sizing problem of the distribution static compensators (D-STATCOM) in electrical distribution grids. The discrete part of the codification determines the nodes where D-STATCOM will be installed. The continuous part of the codification regulates their sizes. The objective function considered in this study is the minimization of the annual operative costs regarding energy losses and installation investments in D-STATCOM. This objective function is subject to the classical power balance constraints and devices’ capabilities. The proposed discrete-continuous version of the genetic algorithm solves the mixed-integer non-linear programming model that the classical power balance generates. Numerical validations in the 33 test feeder with radial and meshed configurations show that the proposed approach effectively minimizes the annual operating costs of the grid. In addition, the GAMS software compares the results of the proposed optimization method, which allows demonstrating its efficiency and robustnes
Frailty level prediction in older age using hand grip strength functions over time
This version of the article has been accepted for publication, after peer review and is subject to Springer Nature’s AM terms of use, but is not the Version of Record and does not reflect post-acceptance improvements, or any corrections. The Version of Record is available online at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-030-85099-9_29.Frailty syndrome can be defined as a clinical state in which there is a rise in individual vulnerability, developing an increase in both the dependence of the person and mortality. Frailty is completely related to age. A fundamental factor to apply rehabilitative interventions successfully resides in having a simple and reliable method capable of identifying frailty syndrome. Frailty indexes (FI) have several sources of uncertainty trough the opinion of the patients, white coat effect and external factors. Moreover, in the clinical practice, the experience of the geriatricians led them to determine an approximation of the frailty level only with a simple handshake. Hand grip strength (HGS) has been widely used in tests by investigators and therapists to be able to diagnose sarcopenia and frailty, as it is a reliable indicator of the overall muscle strength, which decreases with age. Most researches focused mainly on peak HGS, which will not give insight on how the patient’s strength was distributed over time. In the present work it is proposed to evaluate HGS behavior over a period of time, and to develop a system based on Machine Learning for the identification of frailty levels using physiological features, FI and the classical signal processing based on statistics of the HGS signals. The starting hypothesis is that it can be identified the “way” of performing HGS correlated with the level of frailty. To achieve this goal a clinical study was designed and carried out with a cohort of 70 elderly persons, in two Hospitals. This work was partially supported by the Spanish Ministry of Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades under project RTI2018-096701-B-C22, and by the Catalonia FEDER program, resolution GAH/815/2018 under the project, PECT Garraf : Envelliment actiu i saludable i dependència.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft
Respuesta del cultivo de la lechuga (lactuca sativa, l.) a la aplicación de dos bioproductos (Original)
The research was conducted in a Pardo ócrico sin carbonato soil without developed on igneous rocks in the CCS Frank País municipality Majibacoa, Las Tunas in the months of February and March 2016 with the objective of evaluating the effect of one stimulators of plant growth (Fitomas E) and biofertilizer EcoMic in morphological and productive variables in lettuce (Lactuca sativa, L.) cultivar Black Seeded Simpson. Was utilized an experimental design of blocks at random with eight treatments and four replies. The examined variables matched: height of the plant, length of the root, diameter of the stem, number of leaf for plants, mass of the plant and yield (kg m-2). A double classification variance analysis was performed with the Infostat statistical package, version 2016.The cultivation of the lettuce responded positively to the stimulators of the vegetable growth application and to the EcoMic in all the evaluated variables. The bigger performances, minor costs for weights and bigger profits got with the independent use from EcoMic and EcoMic combination themselves FitoMas E. The use of these alternatives is recommended to contribute to sustainable crop production.
FooDrugs: a comprehensive food–drug interactions database with text documents and transcriptional data
Food–drug interactions (FDIs) occur when a food item alters the pharmacokinetics or pharmacodynamics of a drug. FDIs can be clinically relevant, as they can hamper or enhance the therapeutic effects of a drug and impact both their efficacy and their safety. However, knowledge of FDIs in clinical practice is limited. This is partially due to the lack of resources focused on FDIs. Here, we describe FooDrugs, a database that centralizes FDI knowledge retrieved from two different approaches: a natural processing language pipeline that extracts potential FDIs from scientific documents and clinical trials and a molecular similarity approach based on the comparison of gene expression alterations caused by foods and drugs. FooDrugs database stores a total of 3 430 062 potential FDIs, with 1 108 429 retrieved from scientific documents and 2 321 633 inferred from molecular data. This resource aims to provide researchers and clinicians with a centralized repository for potential FDI information that is free and easy to use
