    The predictive effect of teachers’ perception of school principals’ motivating language on teachers’ self-efficacy via a cultural context

    The aim of the study is to investigate the relationship between teachers' perception of school principals' motivating language and teachers' self-efficacy mediated by the cultural context. School principals' linguistic communication skills are critical to sustain the motivation of teachers and their self-efficacy. Motivating language theory (MLT), on which this study is based, provides a model that helps us understand how the language, more precisely, the speech acts, used by school principals have an impact on teachers' self-efficacy. A survey method was employed with 252 teachers through convenience sampling. The teachers' mean age was 34.87 (SD = 9.22) years, and the average length of service was 11.72 (SD = 9.42) years. The results showed that school principals' use of motivating language was significantly and positively associated with teachers' self-efficacy (b = 0.10, p < 0.000). The low-context culture was found to have a full mediating effect in this relationship (b = 0.04, t = 3.1771, p < 0.000). The findings contribute to leader communication theory by highlighting a particular emphasis on the language school principals use to motivate teachers

    Universality in W+Multijet Production

    We study WW-boson production accompanied by multiple jets at 7 TeV at the LHC. We study the jet-production ratio, of total cross sections for WW+nn- to WW+(n−1n-1)-jet production, and the ratio of distributions in the total transverse hadronic jet energy HTjetsH_{\rm T}^{\rm jets}. We use the ratios to extrapolate the total cross section, and the differential distribution in HTjetsH_{\rm T}^{\rm jets}, to WW+6-jet production.     High multiplicity W+jets predictions at NLO

    The BlackHat Library for One-Loop Amplitudes

    We present recent next-to-leading order (NLO) results in perturbative QCD obtained using the BlackHat software library. We discuss the use of n-tuples to separate the lengthy matrix-element computations from the analysis process.     Next-to-Leading Order W + 5-Jet Production at the LHC

    We present next-to-leading order QCD predictions for the total cross section and for a comprehensive set of transverse-momentum distributions in W + 5-jet production at the Large Hadron Collider. We neglect the small contributions from subleading-color virtual terms, top quarks and some terms containing four quark pairs. We also present ratios of total cross sections, and use them to obtain an extrapolation formula to an even larger number of jets. We include the decay of the WW boson into leptons. This is the first such computation with six final-state vector bosons or jets.     Higgs production in gluon fusion at next-to-next-to-leading order QCD for finite top mass

    The inclusive Higgs production cross section from gluon fusion is calculated through NNLO QCD, including its top quark mass dependence. This is achieved through a matching of the 1/mtop expansion of the partonic cross sections to the exact large s-hat limits which are derived from k_T-factorization. The accuracy of this procedure is estimated to be better than 1% for the hadronic cross section. The final result is shown to be within 1% of the commonly used effective theory approach, thus confirming earlier findings.Comment: 28 pages, 14 figure

    Left-Handed W Bosons at the LHC

    The production of W bosons in association with jets is an important background to new physics at the LHC. Events in which the W carries large transverse momentum and decays leptonically lead to large missing energy and are of particular importance. We show that the left-handed nature of the W coupling, combined with valence quark domination at a pp machine, leads to a large left-handed polarization for both W^+ and W^- bosons at large transverse momenta. The polarization fractions are very stable with respect to QCD corrections. The leptonic decay of the W bosons translates the common left-handed polarization into a strong asymmetry in transverse momentum distributions between positrons and electrons, and between neutrinos and anti-neutrinos (missing transverse energy). Such asymmetries may provide an effective experimental handle on separating W + jets from top quark production, which exhibits very little asymmetry due to C invariance, and from various types of new physics.Comment: 32 pages, revtex, 17 figures, 3 tables, v2 minor corrections to ME+PS results, no changes to conclusions, added reference
