    Get PDF
This paper provides an analysis and evaluation of the main perspectives on global challenges faced by the Turkish tourism sector. The issues involved are; the evaluation of the transformation process of hospitality organisations in Turkey within the European Union Process and the “key success factors” of being successful in order to develop and maintain competitive advantage within the global challenge. It identifies the issues which appear to be of prime importance when challenging global issues including strategic HRM in tourism sector. In order to draw a profile of Turkish Tourism sector a SWOT analysis will be made (Porter, 1985). The paper will underline the globalization dimension within the tourism sector especially focusing on the EU dimension and moving onto the emergence of HRM issues into the tourism context with more strategic understanding. The paper will be concluded by the sustainable tourism development issues and general remarks and propositions on the future of the Turkish tourism sector

Abstract Organisational learning and the learning organisation are concepts that have attracted a considerable amount of attention over the last two decades. This paper provides an analysis and evaluation of the main perspectives on organisational learning, particularly in relation to hotels as service sector organisations. The issues involved are an evaluation of the transformation process of a hospitality organisation and the key success factors to becoming a learning organisation in order to develop and maintain a competitive advantage within the global challenge. It identifies the issues which appear to be of prime importance when introducing organisational learning into hotels. The focus of this paper will be on the key points of the Turkish tourism sector's strengths and weaknesses in the adventure of becoming a learning organisation. Following of a literature review within which different characteristics of the service sector will be summarised learning organisation issues pertaining to Turkey will be discussed. This paper aims to discover future opportunities for the sustainable development of Turkish Tourism. However, this paper also maintains that, although organisational learning may be an important factor in building an organisation's competitiveness, by itself, it cannot guarantee success in today's fiercely competitive markets.

Extended q-Dedekind-type Daehee-Changhee sums associated with extended q-Euler polynomials

In the present paper, we aim to specify a p-adic continuous function for an odd prime inside a p-adic q-analog of the extended Dedekind-type sums of higher order according to extended q-Euler polynomials (or weighted q-Euler polynomials) which is derived from a fermionic p-adic q-deformed integral on Z(p)

Shorted TEM Horn Antenna for GPR Applications

    No full text
In this study, a novel TEM horn antenna design is introduced for Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) applications. TEM horn antennas are mostly used in GPR for the advantages of high gain and power capability and wide bandwidth. At the low frequency of the GPR applications, the antenna size must be big. However with using shorting plate with conventional TEM Horn antennas, antenna size can be reduced. A novel shorting plate structure is presented. The effect of this structure and the contributions to antenna performance is investigated. HFSS simulations and measurement results of a prototype is presented. It has been seen that they are consistent with each other

A Patient with Cystinosis Presenting Like Bartter Syndrome and Review of Literature

Background: Nephropathic cystinosis is an autosomal recessively inherited metabolic disorder presenting with metabolic acidosis, Fanconi syndrome and renal failure. Case Presentation: We present a 6-year-old girl with severe growth failure, hyponatremia and hypokalemia. Her parents were 4th degree relatives. Two relatives were diagnosed as end stage renal failure. She also had persistant hypokalemic hypochloremic metabolic alkalosis. Her renal function was normal at presentation. She was thought to have Bartter syndrome with supporting findings of elevated levels of renin and aldosterone with normal blood pressure, and hyperplasia of juxtaglomerular apparatus. Her metabolic alkalosis did not resolve despite supportive treatment. At 6th month of follow-up proteinuria, glucosuria and deterioration of renal function developed. Diagnosis of cystinosis was made with slit lamp examination and leukocyte cystine levels. At 12th month of follow-up her metabolic alkalosis has converted to metabolic acidosis. Conclusion: In children presenting with persistant metabolic alkalosis, with family history of renal failure, and parental consanguinity, cystinosis should always be kept in mind as this disease is an important cause of end stage renal failure which may have features mimmicking Bartter syndrome

Evaluation of the effects of selective laser trabeculoplasty on anterior segment parameters by anterior segment optical coherence tomography

WOS:000495711900001PubMed: 31713002To prospectively examine the effects of selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) on the anterior chamber angle (ACA) and its related parameters using anterior segment-optic coherence tomography (AS-OCT). Fifty eyes of 50 patients with primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) and ocular hypertension were included in the study. AS-OCT was performed before SLT application, immediately after and at 1 day and 1 month. Intraocular pressure (IOP), central corneal thickness (CCT) and anterior chamber depth (ACD) were also recorded and evaluated. No statistically significant difference was determined in ACA and other AS-OCT parameters (AOD, angle opening distance at 500 and 750 mm; TISA, trabecular-iris space area at 500 and 750 mm) before and 1 day after SLT application (p > 0.05). However, a statistically significant increase was determined in both the temporal and nasal ACA, AOD and TISA values between the baseline and day 30 (p 0.05). SLT resulted in an increase in ACA, AOD and TISA when evaluated using AS-OCT. We think that this study provides a different perspective concerning the effects of SLT in the angle region and the involved mechanism

Boric acid-impregnated silk fibroin/gelatin/hyaluronic acid-based films for improving the wound healing process

    No full text
Recently, with the progression in wound dressings, the importance of the biocompatible material with enhanced features for potential applications in the biomedical field has been more developed. Current strategies focus on the acceleration of the wound healing by systematically designed dressing materials. In this study, biocompatible hydrogel films with the combination of silk fibroin, hyaluronic acid and gelatin biopolymers were fabricated. To gain the enhanced wound healing behavior of wound dressings, boric acid (BA) was formulated in various ratios. The prepared hydrogel films were characterized in terms of FTIR, TGA, DSC, and SEM analysis. Following to the swelling and mechanical tests, in vitro biocompatibility and wound healing tests were performed against L929 fibroblast cell line. Results suggest that the presence of 1% (wt/vol) BA in the formulation of silk fibroin/gelatin/hyaluronic acid based hydrogel films is the key in providing such an enhanced mechanical and wound healing feature and may offer an alternative approach for wound healing treatment

    Mitotically Active Plexiform Fibrohistiocytic Tumor

Plexiform fibrohistiocytic tumor is an intermediate malignant tumor situated in superficial soft tissues. It affects children and young adults. The tumor is most commonly located on upper extremities, whereas involvement of back region is rare. Mitotic activity is generally low (~3/10 HPF). It is rare, but it can exhibit aggressive behavior, so total excision with clear surgical margins and long-term followup is necessary to detect local recurrence and metastases. We report a child with a solid mass on back region which was found to be a mitotically active plexiform fibrohistiocytic tumor (6/10 HPF) after excision. Plexiform fibrohistiocytic tumor (PFT) is a mesenchymal neoplasm of children, adolescents, and young adults. It is characterized by fibrohistiocytic cytomorphology and multinodular growth pattern. Clinically it is usually a slow-growing mass of upper extremities with frequent local recurrence and rare regional lymphatic and systemic metastasis (Fletcher et al. (2002), Enzinger and Zhang (1988), Remstein et al. (1999))
