    Snapshot Observation for 2D Classical Lattice Models by Corner Transfer Matrix Renormalization Group

    We report a way of obtaining a spin configuration snapshot, which is one of the representative spin configurations in canonical ensemble, in a finite area of infinite size two-dimensional (2D) classical lattice models. The corner transfer matrix renormalization group (CTMRG), a variant of the density matrix renormalization group (DMRG), is used for the numerical calculation. The matrix product structure of the variational state in CTMRG makes it possible to stochastically fix spins each by each according to the conditional probability with respect to its environment.Comment: 4 pages, 8figure

    Orbital Characteristics of the Subdwarf-B and F V Star Binary EC~20117-4014(=V4640 Sgr)

    Among the competing evolution theories for subdwarf-B (sdB) stars is the binary evolution scenario. EC~20117-4014 (=V4640~Sgr) is a spectroscopic binary system consisting of a pulsating sdB star and a late F main-sequence companion (O'Donoghue et al. 1997), however the period and the orbit semi-major axes have not been precisely determined. This paper presents orbital characteristics of the EC 20117-4014 binary system using 20 years of photometric data. Periodic Observed minus Calculated (O-C) variations were detected in the two highest amplitude pulsations identified in the EC 20117-4014 power spectrum, indicating the binary system's precise orbital period (P = 792.3 days) and the light-travel time amplitude (A = 468.9 s). This binary shows no significant orbital eccentricity and the upper limit of the eccentricity is 0.025 (using 3 σ\sigma as an upper limit). This upper limit of the eccentricity is the lowest among all wide sdB binaries with known orbital parameters. This analysis indicated that the sdB is likely to have lost its hydrogen envelope through stable Roche lobe overflow, thus supporting hypotheses for the origin of sdB stars. In addition to those results, the underlying pulsation period change obtained from the photometric data was P˙\dot{P} = 5.4 (±\pm0.7) ×\times 10−1410^{-14} d d−1^{-1}, which shows that the sdB is just before the end of the core helium-burning phase

    Weight Status and Satisfaction With Healthcare Received in the U.S. And Georgia

    Background: Two-thirds of the U.S. population is overweight or obese, and, in Georgia, adult obesity rates are among the highest. Obesity is a risk factor for diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and some types of cancer, and adherence to treatment of such disease conditions is affected by patients’ perception of healthcare received. The present study examined the association between weight status and satisfaction with healthcare received in the U.S. and in Georgia. Methods: The association between weight status and satisfaction with healthcare received in the U.S. and Georgia was examined using multiple logistic regression analyses, controlling for demographic and other healthcare-related variables. The data used were from the 2013 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) dataset. Results: There were 265,468 complete cases for the U.S., 66% (181,911) were overweight or obese. The odds of being very satisfied with healthcare received was lower for the underweight, overweight, and obese groups by 11.8% (p \u3c0.001), 2.4% (p = 0.022), and 10.1% (p \u3c0.001), respectively, compared to the normal group. Of the 5,947 complete cases for Georgia, 62% (3698) were overweight or obese. The odds of being very satisfied with healthcare received was lower for the overweight and obese groups by 15.1% (p = 0.023) and 18.3% (p = 0.006), respectively, compared to the normal group. Conclusions: The probability of being very satisfied with healthcare received is lower for obese and overweight patients. Improvements in healthcare services provided to these individuals are needed to ensure satisfaction and adherence to treatment of chronic diseases, including weight loss treatment and management

    Electron-phonon interaction in transition metal diborides TB_2 (T=Zr, Nb, Ta) studied by point-contact spectroscopy

    The electron-phonon interaction (EPI) in transition metal diborides TB_2 (T=Zr, Nb, Ta) is investigated by point-contact (PC) spectroscopy. The PC EPI functions were recovered and the EPI parameters lambda<0.1 were estimated for all three compounds.
