    Estimating Parameters in Mathematical Model for Societal Booms through Bayesian Inference Approach

    In this study, based on our previous study, we examined the mathematical properties, especially the stability of the equilibrium for our proposed mathematical model. By means of the results of the stability in this study, we also used actual data representing transient booms and resurgent booms, and conducted parameter estimation for our proposed model using Bayesian inference. In addition, we conducted a model fitting to five actual data. By this study, we reconfirmed that we can express the resurgences or minute vibrations of actual data by means of our proposed model.Comment: 14pages with 11 figure

    Explicitly Multi-Modal Benchmarks for Multi-Objective Optimization

    In multi-objective optimization, designing good benchmark problems is an important issue for improving solvers. Although many benchmark problems have been proposed and some of them became de facto standards, designing multimodal problems that have a controllable landscape is still an open problem especially for high-dimensional cases. We thus propose the Benchmark with Explicit Multimodality (BEM), which lets the benchmark designer specify the basins of attraction using a graph structure known as the reachability graph. In this article, we focus on the mathematical formulation of the BEM. We will see that the BEM has preferable characteristics such as (i) realizing user-specified local Pareto set, (ii) allowing high-dimensional design spaces and (iii) possessing nonseparability

    A study on cross-reactivity of anti-DNA antibody with glycosaminoglycans.

    To study the pathogenesis of lupus nephritis, the cross reactivity between anti-DNA antibody and glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) was investigated. Monoclonal anti-DNA antibodies were obtained from hybridomas by the fusion of MRL/lpr/lpr splenocytes with murine myeloma cells. Some of these monoclonal anti-DNA antibodies showed cross reactivity with GAGs, such as hyaluronic acid, chondroitin sulfate and heparan sulfate. To elucidate the mechanism of cross reactivity, inhibition assays with propanol and polyethylenimine (PEI), a cationic agent, were carried out. Increase of the concentration of PEI (0.6-2.0% vol/vol) resulted in a dose dependent decrease in the binding ability of anti-DNA antibody to GAGs. Propanol, an organic reagent which disrupts the van der Waals bonds between epitopes and paratopes, showed little inhibitory effect on the binding activity of monoclonal anti-DNA antibody to GAGs. These results indicate that the binding of anti-DNA antibody to GAGs is due to a charge interaction rather than van der Waals forces. Anti-DNA antibody which can react with GAGs in the glomerular basement membrane seems to play an important role in the pathogenesis of lupus nephritis.</p

    Suzaku Observation of HCG 62: Temperature, Abundance, and Extended Hard X-ray Emission Profiles

    We present results of 120 ks observation of a compact group of galaxies HCG~62 (z=0.0145z=0.0145) with Suzaku XIS and HXD-PIN\@. The XIS spectra for four annular regions were fitted with two temperature {\it vapec} model with variable abundance, combined with the foreground Galactic component. The Galactic component was constrained to have a common surface brightness among the four annuli, and two temperature {\it apec} model was preferred to single temperature model. We confirmed the multi-temperature nature of the intra-group medium reported with Chandra and XMM-Newton, with a doughnut-like high temperature ring at radii 3.3--6.5' in a hardness image. We found Mg, Si, S, and Fe abundances to be fairly robust. We examined the possible ``high-abundance arc'' at 2\sim 2' southwest from the center, however Suzaku data did not confirm it. We suspect that it is a misidentification of an excess hot component in this region as the Fe line. Careful background study showed no positive detection of the extended hard X-rays previously reported with ASCA, in 5--12 keV with XIS and 12--40 keV with HXD-PIN, although our upper limit did not exclude the ASCA result. There is an indication that the X-ray intensity in r<3.3r<3.3' region is 70±1970\pm 19% higher than the nominal CXB level (5--12 keV), and Chandra and Suzaku data suggest that most of this excess could be due to concentration of hard X-ray sources with an average photon index of Γ=1.38±0.06\Gamma=1.38\pm 0.06. Cumulative mass of O, Fe and Mg in the group gas and the metal mass-to-light ratio were derived and compared with those in other groups.     Detection of the Far-infrared [O III] and Dust Emission in a Galaxy at Redshift 8.312: Early Metal Enrichment in the Heart of the Reionization Era

    We present the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) detection of the [O III] 88 μ\mum line and rest-frame 90 μ\mum dust continuum emission in a Y-dropout Lyman break galaxy (LBG), MACS0416_Y1, lying behind the Frontier Field cluster MACS J0416.1-2403. This [O III] detection confirms the LBG with a spectroscopic redshift of z=8.3118±0.0003z = 8.3118 \pm 0.0003, making this object one of the furthest galaxies ever identified spectroscopically. The observed 850 μ\mum flux density of 137±26137 \pm 26 μ\muJy corresponds to a de-lensed total infrared (IR) luminosity of LIR=(1.7±0.3)×1011LL_{\rm IR} = (1.7 \pm 0.3) \times 10^{11} L_{\odot} if assuming a dust temperature of Tdust=50T_{\rm dust} = 50 K and an emissivity index of β=1.5\beta = 1.5, yielding a large dust mass of 4×106M4 \times 10^6 M_{\odot}. The ultraviolet-to-far IR spectral energy distribution modeling where the [O III] emissivity model is incorporated suggests the presence of a young (τage4\tau_{\rm age} \approx 4 Myr), star-forming (SFR 60M\approx 60 M_{\odot} yr1^{-1}), moderately metal-polluted (Z0.2ZZ \approx 0.2 Z_{\odot}) stellar component with a mass of Mstar=3×108MM_{\rm star} = 3 \times 10^8 M_{\odot}. An analytic dust mass evolution model with a single episode of star-formation does not reproduce the metallicity and dust mass in τage4\tau_{\rm age} \approx 4 Myr, suggesting a pre-existing evolved stellar component with Mstar3×109MM_{\rm star} \sim 3 \times 10^9 M_{\odot} and τage0.3\tau_{\rm age} \sim 0.3 Gyr as the origin of the dust mass.Comment: Accepted by ApJ. 18 pages, 10 figures, 5 table

    Subaru Deep Survey V. A Census of Lyman Break Galaxies at z=4 and 5 in the Subaru Deep Fields: Photometric Properties

    (abridged) We investigate photometric properties of Lyman Break Galaxies (LBGs) at z=3.5-5.2 based on large samples of 2,600 LBGs detected in deep (i'~27) and wide-field (1,200 arcmin^2) images taken in the Subaru Deep Field (SDF) and the Subaru/XMM Deep Field (SXDF). The selection criteria for the LBG samples are examined with 85 spectroscopically identified objects and by Monte Carlo simulations. We find in the luminosity functions of LBGs (i) that the number density of bright galaxies (M_{1700}<-22; corresponding to SFR_{corr}>100 Msolar yr^{-1}) decreases significantly from z=4 to 5 and (ii) that the faint-end slope of the luminosity function may become steeper towards higher redshifts. We estimate dust extinction of z=4 LBGs with M<M^* from UV slopes, and obtain E(B-V)=0.15+/-0.03 as the mean value. The dust extinction remains constant with apparent luminosity, but increases with intrinsic luminosity. We find no evolution in dust extinction between LBGs at z=3 and 4. We investigate the evolution of UV-luminosity density at 1700A, rho, and find that rho does not significantly change from z=3 to z=5, i.e., rho(z=4)/rho(z=3)=1.0+/-0.2 and rho(z=5)/rho(z=3)=0.8+/-0.4, thus the cosmic star-formation rate (SFR) density remains constant. We find that the stellar mass density estimated from the cosmic SFR is consistent with those derived directly from the stellar mass function at z=0-1, but exceeds those at z~3 by a factor of 3. We find that the ratio of the UV-luminosity density of Ly-a emitters (LAEs) to that of LBGs is ~60% at z=5, and thus about a half of the star formation at z=5 probably occurs in LAEs. We obtain a constraint on the escape fraction of UV-ionizing photons produced by LBGs, f_{esc}>~0.13.Comment: 41 pages, 22 figures, ApJ in press.
