Remarks on some new models of interacting quantum fields with indefinite metric
We study quantum field models in indefinite metric. We introduce the modified
Wightman axioms of Morchio and Strocchi as a general framework of indefinite
metric quantum field theory (QFT) and present concrete interacting relativistic
models obtained by analytical continuation from some stochastic processes with
Euclidean invariance. As a first step towards scattering theory in indefinite
metric QFT, we give a proof of the spectral condition on the translation group
for the relativistic models.Comment: 13 page
Inequalities for trace anomalies, length of the RG flow, distance between the fixed points and irreversibility
I discuss several issues about the irreversibility of the RG flow and the
trace anomalies c, a and a'. First I argue that in quantum field theory: i) the
scheme-invariant area Delta(a') of the graph of the effective beta function
between the fixed points defines the length of the RG flow; ii) the minimum of
Delta(a') in the space of flows connecting the same UV and IR fixed points
defines the (oriented) distance between the fixed points; iii) in even
dimensions, the distance between the fixed points is equal to
Delta(a)=a_UV-a_IR. In even dimensions, these statements imply the inequalities
0 =< Delta(a)=< Delta(a') and therefore the irreversibility of the RG flow.
Another consequence is the inequality a =< c for free scalars and fermions (but
not vectors), which can be checked explicitly. Secondly, I elaborate a more
general axiomatic set-up where irreversibility is defined as the statement that
there exist no pairs of non-trivial flows connecting interchanged UV and IR
fixed points. The axioms, based on the notions of length of the flow, oriented
distance between the fixed points and certain "oriented-triangle inequalities",
imply the irreversibility of the RG flow without a global a function. I
conjecture that the RG flow is irreversible also in odd dimensions (without a
global a function). In support of this, I check the axioms of irreversibility
in a class of d=3 theories where the RG flow is integrable at each order of the
large N expansion.Comment: 24 pages, 3 figures; expanded intro, improved presentation,

Mercury evasion from a boreal peatland determined with advanced REA and chamber methods
Theory for the Doping Dependence of Spin Fluctuation Induced Shadow States in High-T Superconductors
We analyze the doping dependence of the intensity and energetical position of
shadow states in high -T superconductors within the 2D Hubbard model and
using our recently developed numerical method for the self consistent summation
of bubble and ladder diagrams. It is shown that shadow states resulting from
short range antiferromagnetic correlations occur for small but finite
excitation energies which decrease for decreasing doping, reflecting a
dynamically broken symmetry with increasing lifetime. Simultanously, the
intensity of these new states increases, the quasiparticle dispersion is
strongly flattened, and a pseudogap in the density of states occurs. Finally,
we discuss the importance of flat bands at the Fermi level and nesting of the
Fermi surface as general prerequisites for the observability of shadow states.Comment: 9 pages (TeX) with 3 figures (Postscript
Functional Integral Construction of the Thirring model: axioms verification and massless limit
We construct a QFT for the Thirring model for any value of the mass in a
functional integral approach, by proving that a set of Grassmann integrals
converges, as the cutoffs are removed and for a proper choice of the bare
parameters, to a set of Schwinger functions verifying the Osterwalder-Schrader
axioms. The corresponding Ward Identities have anomalies which are not linear
in the coupling and which violate the anomaly non-renormalization property.
Additional anomalies are present in the closed equation for the interacting
propagator, obtained by combining a Schwinger-Dyson equation with Ward
Identities.Comment: 55 pages, 9 figure
Criticality in the 2+1-dimensional compact Higgs model and fractionalized insulators
We use a novel method of computing the third moment M_3 of the action of the
2+1-dimensional compact Higgs model in the adjoint representation with q=2 to
extract correlation length and specific heat exponents nu and alpha, without
invoking hyperscaling. Finite-size scaling analysis of M_3 yields the ratio
(1+alpha)/nu and 1/nu separately. We find that alpha and nu vary along the
critical line of the theory, which however exhibits a remarkable resilience of
Z_2 criticality. We propose this novel universality class to be that of the
quantum phase transition from a Mott-Hubbard insulator to a
charge-fractionalized insulator in two spatial dimensions.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev. Let
Supersymmetric Distributions, Hilbert Spaces of Supersymmetric Functions and Quantum Fields
The recently investigated Hilbert-Krein and other positivity structures of
the superspace are considered in the framework of superdistributions. These
tools are applied to problems raised by the rigorous supersymmetric quantum
