    Tarçın (Cinnamomum verum) Yağının Gökkuşağı Alabalığı (Oncorhynchus mykiss) Büyüme Performansı ve Kan Parametreleri Üzerine Etkileri

    Yapılan çalışmada, tarçın yağının yavru alabalık (Oncorhynchus mykiss) yemlerine ilavesinin balıklarda büyüme performansı, yem değerlendirme ve kan parametreleri üzerine etkileri araştırılmıştır. Bu kapsamda 0 mL/kg (TY0), 1 mL/kg (TY1), 2 mL/kg (TY2), 4 mL/kg (TY4)ve 10 mL/kg (TY10) olmak üzere 5 farklı konsantrasyonda tarçın yağı içeren deneme yemleri hazırlanmıştır. 60 gün sürdürülen çalışmada ağırlıkları (10,68±0,35 g)olan yavru alabalıklar kullanılmış olup deneme 3 tekrarlı olmak üzere 100 L hacimli akvaryumlarda yürütülmüştür. Besleme denemesi neticesinde tarçın yağı içeren yemlerle beslenen grupların kontrol grubuna nazaran büyüme ve yemden yararlanma performanslarının önemli ölçüde arttığı gözlenmiştir. Deneme sonunda alınan kan numunelerinin analizi sonucunda, tarçın yağıyla beslene balıkların eritrosit ve hemoglobim miktarları, hematokrit oranları önemli ölçüde artış göstermiştir. Ayrıca tarçın yağı balıkların serum glikoz, trigliserit ve kolesterol miktarını azaltırken, toplam protein ve albümin miktarını arttırmıştır. Çalışma bulgularına göre alabalık yemlerine 4mL/kg tarçın yağı ilavesinin balıkların büyüme performansı, yem değerlendirme ve sağlık kriterleri olumlu yönde etkilediği gözlenmiştir

    The effect of dietary soybean meal on growth, nutrient utilization, body composition and some serum biochemistry variables of two banded seabream, Diplodus vulgaris (Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, 1817)

    This study was performed to determine the optimum level of soybean meal diets for two banded seabream for growth performance, nutrient utilization, body composition and serum biochemistry. Two banded seabream were fed five experimental diets which were formulated replace fish meal by soybean meal at 0, 20, 30, 40 and 50%. Up to 40% of dietary fish meal was successfully replaced with no growth depression. Whole body composition of two banded seabream was not affected by soybean meal inclusion level. Total protein, triglyceride and total cholesterol of fish fed the SM50 diets were significantly lower compared to fish fed the soybean free diet. On the other hand, serum glucose level significantly increased as dietary soybean meal inclusion increased. Results showed that 40% fish meal can be replaced in diets for the two banded seabream by defatted soybean meal. Further studies to determine the inclusion level of soybean meal more than 40% with amino acid or enzyme supplementation are needed

    Svrha ovog istraživanja bila je istražiti različite tipove lipida kao i sadržaj proteina u jajnicima kalifornijske pastrve. Ukupno 80 uzoraka Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum 1792) prikupljeno je iz mrijestilišta Kokernag i Verinag (Jammu i Kashmir, Indija) između 2017. i 2019. godine. Zreli stadij gonada kod ženki imao je najviši gonadosomatski indeks (GSI) i minimalni GSI u potrošenom stadiju. Veći sadržaj lipida u jajniku zabilježen je tijekom zrele faze (36%) u usporedbi s drugim fazama prije parenja. Slično, klase lipida također su pokazale fluktuacije tijekom razvoja jajnika. Klase lipida, tj. glikolipidi, slobodne masne kiseline, kolesterol i trigliceridi, imale su veći sadržaj u zrelom stadiju, dok je sadržaj fosfolipida bio veći u zrelom stadiju. Sadržaj proteina također je bio veći u zrelom jajniku, nego u drugim razvojnim fazama. Studija daje referentne vrijednosti za različite biokemijske parametre kalifornijske pastrve koji bi mogli biti korisni za programe praćenja populacije i za razvoj prehrane i metoda upravljanja u kontroliranim uvjetima.The purpose of this study was to examine various lipid classes as well as the protein content in rainbow trout ovaries. A total of 80 samples of Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum 1792) were collected from Kokernag and Verinag hatcheries (Jammu and Kashmir, India) between 2017 and 2019. The mature stage in female fish had the highest gonadosomatic index (GSI) and minimal GSI in the spent stage. Higher lipid content of the ovary was reported during the mature stage (36%), as compared to other pre-breeding stages. Similarly, lipid classes also showed fluctuation during the development of the ovary. The lipid classes, i.e. glycolipids, free fatty acids, cholesterol and triglycerides, had a higher content in the mature stage, while the phospholipid content was higher in the mature stage. The protein content was also higher in the mature ovary than in the other developmental stages. The study provides reference values for various biochemical parameters in rainbow trout that could be useful for population monitoring programs and for the development of diets and management methods for fish production under controlled conditions

    *İnanan, Burak Evren ( Aksaray, Yazar )The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of essential oil extracted from bergamot (Citrus bergamia) peel on growth performance and health status of European sea bass juveniles (5.10 + 0.05 g). Test diets supplemented with 0.0%, 0.5%, 1.0% and 2.0% bergamot peel oil (BPO0, BPO0.5, BPO1 and BPO2) were fed to experimental fish for 60 days. At the end of the experiment, the best growth performance was obtained in the BPO0.5 and BPO1 groups (p < .05). No significances were found for haematological parameters including red blood cell count, haematocrit and haemoglobin concentration at the end of the feeding experiment. There were significant differences between the total protein, cholesterol, alkaline phosphatase and glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (p < .05) between the BPO0.5 and BPO1 supplemented groups and the control group with no BPO addition. The addition of BPO showed significant differences in immune parameters such as lysozyme activity, total myeloperoxidase content, superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase activity between BPO0 and BPO supplemented groups (p < .05). It might be concluded that dietary addition of 0.5%-1% BPO could increase the growth performance and feed utilization with improved health status in sea bass juveniles...

    Effects of Dietary Tribulus terrestris Extract Supplementation on Growth, Feed Utilization, Hematological, Immunological, and Biochemical Variables of Nile Tilapia Oreochromis niloticus

    The present study was conducted for 88 days to evaluate the effect of dietary Tribulus terrestris supplementation on growth performance, feed utilization, and hematological, immunological, and biochemical indices of Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus. A total of 144 Nile tilapia, average body weight 2.61±0.35 g, were divided into four experimental treatments. There were three replicates of each treatment. Four isonitrogenous (40% CP) and isolipidic (10% CL) experimental diets contained T. terrestris extract at levels of 0, 200, 400 and 600 mg/kg respectively. Growth performance and feed utilization of Nile tilapia were significantly higher (p0.05). Hematocrit, hemoglobin, mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), and myeloperoxidase variables were not significantly affected by herb extract (p>0.05). However, mean corpuscular volume (MCV) value and lysozyme activity increased with increasing T. terrestris extract (p<0.05). Serum albumin, total protein, and triglyceride levels were not affected by T. terrestris extract. Serum globulin and glucose levels increased and cholesterol levels decreased in Nile tilapia fed with herbal supplemented diets. The results of the present study suggest that Nile tilapia fed diets containing at least 400 mg/kg T. terrestris extract enhanced growth performance, feed utilization, hematological, immunological, and biochemical indices

    The use of Avena sativa extract against Aeromonas hydrophila and its effect on growth performance, hematological and immunological parameters in common carp (Cyprinus carpio)

    In this research the effects of oat Avena sativa extract on the non-specific immune system of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) was examined. For this purpose, the fishes (average weight 9.91 ± 1.52 g) were fed with 5 g kg −1, 10 g kg −1 and 20 g kg −1 oat extract supplemented diets for 60 days. Following 60 days of feeding, the fishes were injected with Aeromonas hydrophila and mortalities were recorded. Lysozyme and myeloperoxidase activity, improved in all groups that received feed supplemented with oat extract. Serum glucose and cholesterol decreased while total protein and albumin in fish increased with the use of the diet supplement with oat extract. Haemoglobin (Hb), mean cell hemoglobin (MCH) and mean cell haemoglobin concentration (MCHC) increased with diet supplemented with oat extract. Oat extract at the concentration of 10 g kg−1 showed significantly higher relative percentage survival (67%) when compared with the control against A. hydrophila injection. Also the dietary supplementation with oat extract caused a significant increase in growth parameters (final weight (FW), weight gain (WG), specific growth rate (SGR) and feed conversion ratio (FCR), when compared to non-supplemented control basal diet. The results suggest that A. sativa extract can be used as a feed supplement to enhance fish immune response and disease resistance against A. hydrophila

    WOS: 000448493700037PubMed: 30241078Recently, Boron (B) contamination of aquatic ecosystem has received considerable critical attention due to its toxic effects at high concentrations on plants as well as animals. Previous studies on toxic effects of B have not dealt with DNA damages in blood and sperm cells of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), together with blood parameters. This study consisted of two successive experiments purposes to determine these findings, including the median-lethal concentration (LC50) of B for Nile tilapia. In the first one, at 96 h, LC50 of B for Nile tilapia was 141.42 mg L-1 B. In the second one, Nile tilapia were treated with five elevated B concentrations (1, 5, 25, 50 and 100 mg L-1 B) and hematological, serum biochemical parameters, and DNA damages of Nile tilapia in these treatments were determined comparing with the control after 14 days of exposure. Hematological parameters (red blood cell count, hematocrit, and hemoglobin) were similar to each other in all groups while serum biochemical parameters (glucose, total protein, cholesterol, alkaline phosphatase, glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase, and glutamic pyruvic transaminase) in B treatments, especially in 50 and 100 mg L-1 B groups, were found significantly higher (P = 25 mg L-1 B treatments, while all sperm cells in 100 mg L-1 B treatments. These results demonstrated the harmful effects of B at high concentration (50 and 100 mg L-1 B) on the DNA integrity of blood and sperm cells, and also the serum biochemical parameters.     Effects of Prebiotic Mannanoligosaccharides (MOS) on Histology and Biochemical Blood Parameters of Gilthead Seabream, Sparus aurata

    A 90-day growth trial was conducted to determine the effects of prebiotic mannanoligosaccharides (MOS) on the histology and biochemical blood parameters of the gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata). Two experimental diets were formulated to contain MOS (Bio-Mos®) levels of 0 and 2 g/kg. The fish averaging 172.11±13.19 g were reared in six octagonal net cages (763 m3). Fish were fed twice daily to apparent satiation. Individual body weight, weight gain, survival rate and feed conversion rate FCR were measured during the experiment. The treatments produced significant differences in body weight. and weight. gain (p0.05). At the end of the experimental period, biochemical blood parameters were analyzed. Blood urea level was significantly affected in the MOS group (P<0.05). No remarkable alterations in histological examinations were found. This study highlighted the positive effects of prebiotic MOS on protein efficiency and weight gain of gilthead seabream

    Evaluation of metabolic stress status in common carp (Cyprinus carpio) exposed to the fungicide folpet

    Among pesticides, fungicides are the most extensively used ones in agriculture and their effects on fish health and indirectly human health are needed to evaluate. Folpet has been used for over 50 years as a fungicide across the world. The mechanism of action of folpet on non-target aquatic organisms is so poorly understood and there is no available information about potential acute toxicity of folpet and its mechanism of action in non-target aquatic organisms. With this motivation, two successive experiments were set up: first, 96 h-LC50 value of folpet for common carp (Cyprinus carpio) was determined; and second, effects of different sublethal concentrations (0, 0.025, 0.50, 0.1 and 0.15 mg/L) of folpet on hematological serum biochemical blood parameters, DNA damages, expression levels of catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione Stransferase (GST), and cortisol receptor (HSP70) genes were evaluated in this study. It was calculated that 0.199 mg/L of folpet was the 96 h-LC50 value. After the folpet exposure for 14 days, significant decreases in red blood cells, hemoglobin, hematocrit, serum total protein, and GST gene expression levels were observed while serum glucose, liver enzymes activities, and expression levels of CAT, SOD, GPx, HSP70 genes increased. Also, folpet induced a significant genotoxic effect on the blood cells regarding to DNA damages. Consequently, the results have shown the toxic effects of folpet even at the lowest concentration on common carp
