    Matching storage organisation to usage pattern in relational data bases

    A significant improvement in the performance of data base systems may be achieved by dynamically optimising the storage organisation and the access paths in accordance with the usage patterns. The principle of defined relations may be .employed to ensure that a given relational data base is tuned to match its usage pattern. This thesis describes some original contributions to the solution of the update problem of defined relations. Some methods of improving the response time without impairing the utilization of disk space have been investigated, and a generalised page replacement algorithm for the management of the data base work space is recommended. The arguments in this thesis are supported by examples drawn from existing relational data bases. As a whole, the thesis emphasises the benefits of organising the data base in a manner dictated by the activity of its users

    Integration of SCADA, GIS, and Call Center Systems for Electrical Power Distribution Management and Planning

    In electrical power distribution systems the traditional methods cannot detect the customer fault location in real time and respond to customer complaints at the same time of the outage of the electric power because the required information is scattered among isolated databases. In this paper the combination of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Geographical Information System (GIS) and using SQLCMD against DBSET has been shown to solve this problem better. This paper reducing the response time of the customer waiting when they calling the agent in the call center, creating a model for the integration of real time data in SCADA system against static data in GIS to make online GIS and send data from GIS to CALL CENTER at the same time. The prototype describes the flow of the data between various systems and integrates all in one logical database that contains all data about the customers. The proposed model depends on three major sub-systems: GIS, SCADA, and Call Center systems. The GIS system is base of the model so the change and update in GIS database is available, GIS provides different features like maps, real coordinates and tables. The model contains three different databases, GIS as geo database, SCADA as the real time database and call center as customer information database, all this database will be in one logical global database that contains of spatial information tables, asset information tables, topology information tables, and operation information tables. This method has been shown to significantly improve the accuracy and efficiency of fault detection in distribution networks and to decrease the response time in call centers

    Nutritional and hematological status of Sudanese women of childbearing age with steady-state sickle cell anemia

    We sought to investigate the nutritional and hematological status of Sudanese women of childbearing age with sickle cell anemia (SCA). Anthropometry and hematology were used to assess nutritional status and health and disease conditions, respectively. Women with steady-state (HbSS, n = 39; age = 19.0±2.7) and without (HbAA, n = 36; age, 19.8±2.7) SCA were recruited during a routine visit to the Hematology Clinic, Ibn-Auf Teaching Hospital, Khartoum, Sudan. The two groups of women lived in similar environmental conditions and ate similar diets three times a day. However, despite taking regular meals, the women with sickle anemia were thinner and lighter ( 0.050). The low anthropometric (height, weight, and body mass index) and abnormal hematological values in the women with SCA in steady-state reflect sustained nutritional insults inflected by the disease and poverty. Tailored nutritional counseling/advice must be an integral part of managing patients with SCA. Such advice is particularly vital for women of childbearing age because of the adverse effects of prepregnancy nutritional deficiency on outcomes
